This lovely house with an ocean view is a typical example of Gloucester architecture from the late 1800's. Although some upgrades have been made over the years, the house is in largely original condition. There are wood floors and white painted walls throughout. The furniture is comfortable and includes some antique pieces. The back yard is large and is well equipped with outdoor furniture.
Plum Cove Beach, a small beach from which the sunsets are spectacular, is only 1/10 of a mile down the street. No parking sticker is needed since you can easily carry your beach gear with you! A scenic drive will take you to any part of Gloucester or Rockport in 15 minutes or less.
My husband and I currently live in Eastern Connecticut. I am a retired Montessori Head of School. ('Karen Drazen'). My husband is a carpenter and cabinet maker. Our older son lives in Austin, Texas and our younger son studies birds around the world.
Karen Drazen purchased this house in 2006
I have been visiting Gloucester since I was in college in Boston. When my children were born we began renting a cottage here for our summer vacations. When my parents passed away, I used my inheritance to put a down payment on this house. We hope to retire here someday.
Our house is a very well preserved 1860's example of the architecture in Gloucester at that time. The house is simply but tastefully decorated and has a well stocked kitchen. The back yard is lovely and offers a view of the ocean and northern MA and southern New Hampshire across the bay.
The home was a little hard to find as side roads and drives in the area are narrow and hidden by bushes. But by the 3rd day we had it down. Everything was as advertised. Homeowner was very responsive and helpful.
I would recommend the Whale watch and Thomas Lannon Schooner sailing. Both very enjoyable. Restaurants abound for every taste and the seafood cannot be better. Excellent shopping and scenic tours around the cape. Thanks for a great weekend.
It was hot, very hot, front bed room was impossible to cool down.... Small beach close by good for children.... But it was too hot there also..... Parking for occasional visitor impossible if you have two cars.... No street parking.... No beach parking ..... Grill needs to be replaced..... One leg broken and not really fixed.... Brother was injured while trying to move out of garage......
It was very nice and enjoyable. I would stay again. This was our third time, if that tells you anything. The Charles E. Walker family
The rental property was very nice. It was clean, cozy, and very well equipped. The owners were pleasant and always responded to questions promptly. I would highly recommend the home for families or couples.
This historic home near Plum Cove is very comfortable and well-equipped. The simplicity and peacefulness is perfect for a relaxing long weekend in the fall. We even enjoyed an evening stroll under the harvest moon. The memories will sustain us until next year when we hope to stay for longer! Thanks, Karen, for your hospitality and sharing your home with us!
This was a perfect rental for our family. We found Karen, the owner, easy to work with and the house as described. I have already told everyone what a great choice it was and that they should consider it for a Cape Ann vacation. We fell in love with the Plum Cove/Lanesville neighborhood and the house. Sunset at Plum Cove is amazing and just a short walk away. We went to a small local market/restaurant called the Willowrest everyday. Halibut Point State Park in Rockport was a beautiful place to watch the sunrise after a hike past a quarry, through the woods, and then out onto the rocks. Believe me it is worth the early morning! And, the 4 wild turkeys who visited the back yard everyday kept us all entertained.
