We purchased Log Heaven brand new in 2001 and it was love at first sight! Ty and I are originally from Chicago and the thought of owning a log cabin in the Smoky Mountains excited us beyond belief. The beautiful country heart pine wood floors, tongue and groove log interior, green metal roof and the enormous 25' vaulted ceiling with huge exposed beams took our breathe away.
We bought our log heaven for all the folks out there just like us who would love to experience a log home ... and appreciate the privacy ... tucked back in the woods ... with only nature and wildlife for neighbors.....
Adventuresome adults, honeymooners, those celebrating second honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays and all the other special occasions...especially love our privacy and beautifully landscaped setting. A Log Heaven is perfect for a couples getaway...romantic and secluded! It's also perfect for a girlfriends getaway...so many things to do...and that's without leaving the cabin!
Located only a few minutes from Bryson City, we offer a great location...(we think the best location of all)... right in the midst of everything ... an easily accessible road (that means you don't have to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle), a driveway we've just paved, wonderful views that you will fall in love with, and nature and seclusion at its best... Recent guests were thrilled to discover deer in our back yard!!
With a large great room that has a 25' vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, an open floor plan, two bedrooms plus a large sleeping loft with French doors to a Juliet balcony overlooking beautiful sunset views, two bathrooms, a large screened porch and a front covered porch with rockers and swing... (both porches are on the second floor where you will enjoy the wonderful mountain breezes) and because we love games, we have a mini-game room with foos ball and a dart board ...we also have a large hot tub for adults use on our landscaped patio and a wood burning portable fire pit in the back yard.
We are just a few minutes away from Bryson City... known as the 'Outdoor Adventure' capital of the Great Smoky Mountains. Bryson City is a 'real' town...it isn't overrun with tourists, and it has it's own special quaintness and charm. With the terrain, outfitters and guides, Bryson City qualifies as the center of outdoor adventure in the Southeast. For four decades, the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City has provided rafting, paddling instruction, and supplies to adventurers of all ages.
We are centrally located for all of the Smoky Mountain activities! Bryson City offers unparalleled views, along with miles of hiking and biking trails (hike the Appalachian Trail...it is only 10 minutes from Log Heaven), mountain golf at the Smoky Mountain Country Club and the scenic Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Nearby Fontana Lake is a beautiful mountain lake where you can swim, fish, and rent a pontoon boat for either half or the entire day.
Also nearby is the Nantahala Outdoor Center for white-water rafting and kayaking, horseback riding, and the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Some of the most strenuous and scenic mountain biking trails in the east are found in the Tsali Recreation Area near Bryson City, Cherokee (where you can try your luck at Harrah's Casino or go to the wonderful new movie theatre), Gem Mining, and Deep Creek for tubing, hiking, horseback riding and picnics. Western North Carolina is absolutely great for flea-markets and antiquing ...and... maybe best of all, Ingles Supermarket is only minutes away.
Just throw the pressures and stress of your everyday life away, come to the mountains and enjoy unwinding and relaxing ....

We welcome you to our website, Log Heaven in Bryson City, North Carolina. I'm Sandy and my husband is Ty. We would love to have you as guests at our vacation home! Even though we are originally from Chicago, we now live in Columbia, SC. I guess you could say we also live in Bryson City, NC because we spend so much of our time there. We love to hike and the Appalachian Trail and Deep Creek are some of our favorite places. We also love nature and enjoy all the deer, owl, turkey and rabbit sightings on our property...and even a bear. Mostly, we just like to hang out...do some gardening, reading, enjoy our family, play games, and relax in the hot tub.
Sandy Nelson purchased this cabin in 2001
In 2001, it seemed like a great idea to invest in vacation real estate. We had built Retreat in the Sky, our vacation home, three years previously and we had begun renting it to vacation guests with much success. We searched and searched to find another vacation home that guests would love and take good care of like it was their own... and that would be a good investment for us. When we found Log Heaven, it was exactly what we were looking for.
Log Heaven has so many outdoor spaces sometimes we just don't know where we want to 'be'. Our choices include; a covered front porch, a large screened porch, or...our patio with hot tub. Our location is close to Ingles and the town of Bryson City. We still pinch ourselves that we found the perfect vacation home for us and for our guests!
Absolutely loved the cabin! For us, the fav places were the porches! It was kewl looking at all the home decor - Sandy, what a great way to decorate! Randy is a Wizard of Oz fanatic so when he saw the posters he knew he was "home". Log Heaven will become our regular retreat and we look forward to returning again and again. The info notebook was great. It was so nice to see personal photos of your family which made the cabin feel more cozy. Thanks for a wonderful time and for a gorgeous cabin!
North Carolina has long been a favorite vacation destination of ours. Last year was our first venture into the Bryson City area and the first of what we hope to be many future stays at Log Heaven.
It was our first time renting a vacation home, as we stayed in friend's homes in previous years. At first glance on the internet, there were so many places to choose from; but when we happened upon the Log Heaven listing, we immediately knew we found our vacation home.
Everything we were looking for - privacy; being in the middle of the beautiful NC mountains; close proximity to so many things to do and see; a spacious, beautiful log cabin home with all the amenities - was advertised. It was easy to get excited about what lay ahead.
Well, we sure weren't disappointed either. As soon as we first pulled up to Log Heaven, we could tell the listing didn't do full justice to this place. It is amazing and well worth a visit. You will fall in love with the house and if you manage to tear yourself away to go out nature walking or visiting the local sites, you always will look forward to coming 'home' to Log Heaven.
In addition to the lovely home, there are several great restaurants and shops of all varieties in the area. Our interests lean toward nature walks, waterfall hunting, and photography. This is an excellent location for all of that with many great spots only short drives away.
Do your homework before you come. Your hosts will provide brochures and maps of the local area, but you will want to scout around the surrounding areas as well. They also provide all you need to know about the house so you will be well acquainted when you get there.
Enjoy your stay! We sure did!
Four of my friends & I, who have all recently retired, visited The Nelson's "Log Heaven" in Bryson City earlier this year for a girl's getaway. The house is charming & beautifully decorated ,very obviously with love, by the Nelson's and had every amenity imaginable. Our favorite spot was the screened back porch where we spent hours catching up with each other....it was so relaxing & we found ourselves staying up way to late. We visited downtown Bryson City and it was great to see the town flourishing with tourism now.The shopping was amazing and there was the neatest place for lunch called The Filling Station that I highly recommend. The owners were so nice and even took our picture to place on their "customer wall"...Our next adventure was to visit Harrah's in Cherokee which was also surprisingly close. We had a wonderful dinner at the Tuscan Grill inside the Casino and loved the fact that there was valet parking because the place is Huge! Our final outing was down to Nantahala for breakfast on the river....what a treat that was. If you and your friends are looking for the perfect place to stay that feels like home & is close to so many fun & exciting places to visit, I highly recommend Log Heaven! We all left a piece of our hearts there so I'm sure we'll return soon to retrieve them...:)
Have recently enjoyed a week at Log Heaven, a lovely mountain hideaway that was just perfect for us. We wanted privacy, yet we wanted convenience to restaurants and a grocer; the cabin was as promised. The owners furnishings and amenities were such that scarcely nothing was needed. I awoke each morning before sunrise to enjoy coffee on the front porch swing and behold the day beginning. It was a struggle to leave the cabin and go about my business that I had come to the area to do.....enjoy all the outdoor activities of the Nantahala area. Sandy was never more than a phone call or text away for any questions or issues; she was positive and very helpful....a gem. The porches, front and back were furnished to enjoy...and we did. The kitchen was stocked well for preparing meals and staying put. The air conditioning and hot tub made for a soothing and comfortable days end. I will certainly put re-visiting Log Heaven on my TO DO LIST.
Thank you Sandy...
First I would like to tell you that you won't find a better more concerned owner than Miss Sandy. She was a delight to do business with and she stayed in touch to make sure our stay was the best it could be. Second, if you are planning a motorcycle vacation, the cabin will have some challenges. The road leading to the cabin is shale rock, which was ok, but the bumps in the road made for a rough ride. The driveway is steep and ended with large gravel rocks, making turning the bikes around a two person event. The wheels just dug in to the gravel. So the cabin is motorcycle accessible, but not motorcycle friendly. If you're on a trike or in a car/truck, no problem. The cabin itself was a nice place and cool. It only has two window AC units, but they did the job well as long as you left the doors open to the bedrooms. The cabin is very homey and comfortable. The mattresses are strange to see at first, it looks as if they are sunken in where people have laid, but they were comfortable and we slept well. All in all the stay was fine. I still haven't received my deposit back, but that's not in Miss Sandy's hands, it's VRBO. I'm sure it will show up soon, but it's been over two weeks now. Seems kind of long in the age of instant everything. Read the rules and the warnings for your stay and everything will be fine. It's a great location in relationship to the town and we were able to ride and see a lot of things in both directions. Again, cars and trucks are fine, but if you're riding motorcycles, be very experienced at rough riding or you might not enjoy the stay. The three stars are for the motorcycle experience, which is why we were there on vacation experience.
Positives include quietness and completeness of needed items for a stay. Open, high wooden beams. Crowded; too much stuff inside; home for collectors. Downstairs bedroom has one window, but the a/c is in it; feels like you're in a hole. Damp; mildew. Owner very caring and responsive. Great location--near fishing and Bryson City and national park are less than 15 mins. away.
I was looking for "downtime" to recharge! I found it! Beautiful cabin literally in the woods...owner extremely helpful & accommodating!! Spent most of my time on one of the 2 porches! Enjoyed the hot tub! Definitely recommend!! ENJOY!
Relaxing with massages, facials, pedicures, etc. at the wonderful, full-service Spa at Lake View at Fontana. Or, renting a pontoon boat for 1/2 or all day at Fontana Lake. Tubing at Deep Creek, Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Nantahala, Gem Mining, Mountain Biking and Horseback riding at Tsali. And what everyone loves and is talking about....Ziplining! All within a short 5-10 minute drive. A little longer drive will take you to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, riding the Blue Ridge Parkway, snow skiing and snow tubing in Maggie Valley, hiking at the Joyce Kilmer Forest and shopping till you drop in Highlands and Cashiers...and don't forget the magnificent waterfalls on the way. You will never run out of things to do!
