Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Home Owners,

We thank you very much for letting us stay in your cottage. We really enjoyed it. We went on the boats and fished. The cabin was very cozy with comfortable beds. The lake was an amazing view. We ended up being able to see the bald eagle! That was awesome because we saw him go hunting into the water! At night we would make smores & hot dogs on the fire pit. They tested great! Thanks again! ;)

Winter Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Peace and quiet and serenity - exactly what I needed. I just love the coziness of the cabin and the "beach side cottage" decor was such a welcome atmosphere in the middle of winter. I had the beautiful floor to cathedral ceiling fireplace blazing during my entire stay. If this had been a normal New England winter, I would have done some cross country skiing, skating, snow shoeing right out the door and accross the gorgeous lake (what a view). I'm a little relieved that I it wasn't a normal winter though, because it gave me the opportunity to totally relax. I had time to cook and paint (artist) and read. I imagine this to be a perfect cabin for a writer in the middle of winter too. Thank you to Rindy for providing a great escape.

Awesome time

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a weekend at the end of April. The cottage was perfect, clean and right on the lake. We fished on the dock and took one of the boats that were there out on the lake. The views are beautiful!! It was peaceful and quiet. There was only one time we saw another person out on the lake. We did see some rowing practices which was cool! The cottage was very relaxing and peaceful. Rindy was very helpful as well! The drive to the nearest store is about 15 minutes away so it's easier to remember things to pick up while you're out so you don't have to keep driving back and forth. The screened in porch was one of my favorite parts of the house. The day we left there was a big rainstorm and it was very relaxing to sit out there and look outside. We brought my 7 year old son who also loved spending time out on the lake and making smores by the fire! We had a wonderful time and will definitely return!!!

Beautiful, quiet spot on a gorgeous lake!

  • 5 of 5

Rindy's cottage on Washinee Lake is a gem. We enjoyed a beautiful and fun-filled weekend in the Berkshires with direct access to the water, and a great location near the town of Salisbury. The cottage itself had everything we could need and was clean and comfortable. The screened-in porch is the perfect place to waste away an afternoon while taking in the scenery, and the secluded location really makes you feel like you have stepped away from the hustle of life.

Highly recommended!

A peaceful respite

  • 4 of 5

I rented this cottage for a getaway with an old friend. We were looking for a peaceful place to relax in nature, catch up on life and recharge from the hectic pace of our regular routine. Rindy's cottage was the perfect place for this. The views from the cottage were gorgeous and the screened in porch provided a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee, read or even have a meal. We saw deer in the driveway and the birds were everywhere looking for places to build their nests. There are neighbors but we didn't see anyone else while we were there. The cottage is right on the water and there is a natural berm between the cottage and the house next door. It felt very private.

The pictures that were provided on the website were accurate and the house was clean and well maintained. It reminds me of the cottage that my grandfather lived in near the water. There are two bedrooms and the beds were comfortable and the linens, towels and cooking utensils were all available for use. We shopped at the Stop and Shop which was less than 4 miles away and cooked dinner at the cottage most nights. We also enjoyed a great lunch in town at The Lockup. The food was delicious and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. Rindy has a book that lists all the information that you need to find local restaurants, hiking places, grocery stores and any other information that you would need. The area is beautiful and it is easy to find something that appeals to you if you feel like leaving the cottage.

The weather was nice the first day and the second day it rained but there was plenty of firewood. We enjoyed a lazy day at the cabin catching up on our reading in front of the fireplace. The only downside was that it was muddy outside because of the spring rains and we couldn't use the outdoor fire pit. The dock wasn't in the water yet so we couldn't use the kayaks that were available but the weather was still chilly. We would definitely come back at another time when the weather was warmer so that we could use them. I would recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a place to recharge. Rindy was great about communicating with us and we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful view, gracious hosts

  • 2 of 5

Rindy was very easy to work with and I was able to book the cottage literally last minute. My husband and our 3 kids (ages 2, 2, and 7) were really looking towards getting away from it all for the weekend and enjoying the lake. We really wanted to love it here but unfortunately we found many things amiss.

What we loved: adequate space for the 5 of us, great screened in porch, nice deck, beautiful views and having canoe, kayaks, etc available for our use. Closest somewhat adequate food market was about 20 min away, although some great restaurants and a coffee shoppe right in town. We had adequate pillows, blankets, etc and kitchen had what we needed in terms of pots, pans, plates, etc. Good water pressure in the shower. Laundry machine was useful too. We used the fireplace and it heated the whole cottage well. Was great to have the firewood! Jon was very nice and helpful and installed the dock for us so we could take the canoe out.

What we didn't like- all furniture was old and rickety. The dresser in the smaller literally is coming apart. Beds are of squeaky, springy variety and are uncomfortable. Carpet in the bedrooms and the living area is old and wasn't clean when we got there. If you have allergies- better stay away. All curtains were dusty and there were dust bunnies in a few corners. Floor wasn't clean when we got there either, especially under the couches, etc. Outside couch had dog hair all over the base of it, under the pillows. Doors and windows were old and hard to open/close. Lamps were all old. Gas barbecue barely kept the temp up and coals for the coal barbecue were floating in water. Lawn from all sides was still getting over winter and didn't really look well taken care of. Overall, it just feels that the cottage needs more love and a good cleaning. But the biggest disappointment was the fact that the cottage wasn't really "hidden" away- the owner's house was just to the right with another neighbor just to the left.

Owner's Response: We have been renting our cottage for 30+ years and have always had excellent reviews from renters that have truly appreciated the serenity and beauty of this lakeside cottage. Our quaint New England town is about as beautiful as you can get! There are gorgeous vistas everywhere. Our cottage fits right in with the comforts of modern convenience and a sense of the past. Being on the screened in porch seeing the speculator mountain views and hearing the birds is one reason our renters love to return. As you can see from our numerous reviews 98% of the time, renters are thrilled with their stay. It is unfortunate the comments from these renters came right after the winter months when we haven't had a chance to do our spring cleaning. I explained to them that we had been gone for three weeks and there have been renters all through the winter. We had professional cleaners come in before and after each renter but unfortunately we weren't there to oversee. We've been working hard all spring and have painted the kitchen cabinets, all the window trim, refurnished furniture, added new lamps and purchased new rugs. We also have done our normal washing all of the bedding and curtains and scrubbed and cleaned everything. We have a new Sealy Posturepedic bed that's just two years old and our couch is three years old and is in excellent shape, so not sure where the furniture comment is based. We are landscaping the yard in front of the cottage and we have a larger dock this year where people can have chairs and sunbathe. We are constantly upgrading things to make everyone's stay as enjoyable as possible. We are open to suggestions anytime and always make an effort to fulfill them. We are 4.7 miles away from a great small grocery store (10 min). A Stop & Shop is 6.9 miles (15 min). We have a sailboat, canoe, 4 kayaks, paddle-board and a small row boat. You can enjoy the outdoor fire pit and plenty of outdoor furniture. Our property is 5 acres and our house is comfortably far enough away to guarantee privacy. I am sure anyone would enjoy their stay at this cozy cottage. Check out the updated pictures! We have many people that return every year for a relaxing and fun filled vacation away from it all. I Invite you to contact me and I can answer any questions you have about our cottage! Rindy

Perfect get away to relax, hike or ski & nice view

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this property for a week during the holiday vacation and it was absolutely perfect. It is perfect driving distance and scenic too while going to Mohawk Mountain. The owner provided a list of local contacts for me to call in the event I needed something and they were out of reach. Sure enough, they were skiing when I wanted directions to a nearby trail and one of the people on the list replied and helped us out. Firewood was completely stocked and the cottage was extremely cozy and clean for our family to enjoy. Surrounding area was very nice to walk around too, especially just after almost a half day of fresh snow coming down. The owner made sure a snow plow would clean the driveway for us to leave on time to the airport. We enjoyed also having lunch at their oldest inn within the town. Shopping center was quaint and conveniently located too. If you are looking to get away, relax, walk trails or ski then this place is a great option and a very reasonable price too. Everything was better than we hoped for. All pictures are exactly what you will get! Thank you.
