Magical country getaway with all the comforts of home.
Peaceful emersion into all the grandeur that puts 'GREAT' in the great outdoors. Amazing screened in room. Gorgeous living room with hardwood floors, exposed beam ceilings and beautiful rough marble fireplace. Your only sadness in this vacation choice was that when it was over we had to go - but will definitely be back.
Old, but comfortable
First impression of the house was good. Bigger than expected, and in a beautiful setting. We were not happy to find that we had to make our own bed when we got there. Bedding and towels all left in a laundry basket, unironed. Agree with previous comment re spiders and cobwebs. They were also in the conservatory, so the door stayed firmly shut!!! Cleanliness could be better. Oven not clean, with dirty foil on shelves. Only place nearby to eat is the golf resort, but we did have some very good meals there. Overall impression is that this has been a well used family home.

We also have a new caretaker and have done a few upgrades to make your stay even more amazing..
Property was not what I expected.
This home sits on a lovely site, but is close to the road and you can hear traffic passing by. The home is older and the kitchen and bathroom are in need of updating; the basement was very musty and damp (to be fair it rained torrentially). The house could have used an overall cleaning inside and out, as there were large cobwebs on the porches and bugs in the house. The living room and bedrooms have lovely hardwood floors and large windows overlooking the setting; the beds were clean and comfortable. We were unable to access the internet and had to drive into Port Hawkesbury for internet access to check in with our offices.
My husband golfed at Dundee and enjoyed it. There was a kayak, canoe and paddle boat rental nearby. There was a canoe on the property, but neither the river nor the lake is accessible directly from the house (you could carry the canoe however). It is about a half and hour drive to shop for groceries and no restaurants close by other than the golf club.
Just to address the issues of personal taste:
We do generally leave outdoor spider webs untouched unless they wander into traffic areas as they do an amazing job of keeping down other flying insects. Of course we remove all indoor spider webs immediately. As for the internet - it does have to be turned on and off on occasion to reset - but always works and a quick call to our caretaker could have easily righted this situation. The kitchen and bathroom are a little dated - see cottage - but instead of redoing them we put that money into the screened in room which as pictured is amazing.
Looking for a perfect place, stop looking...
Upon our arrival, we were not only pleased, but blown away, this is a house not a cottage, with everything and more that you could possibly need. So homey and welcoming with the addition of this amazing gazebo the likes we have never seen! Magnificent views of the Bras d’Or lakes through 14 huge windows. We enjoyed breakfast out there every day, no matter on the weather, just sitting there taking it all in made it difficult to leave. We enjoyed daily visits from Humming Birds, King fisher, Canada geese so low we could see their feathers, and of course the magnificent Eagles! All this on a well kept property and water front, with a canoe and pdfs provided. Once we did hit the road, we found we were within reasonable driving distance to everything we needed. Port Hawksburry 20 min drive, with everything from Tim Hortons to WalMart. Port Hood Beach with it’s warm waters (stop at Seandeannes for breakfast, they serve a dressing that I have dreams about and their homemade bread!!) and Inverness were our favorite beaches, although Kenington gave us the thrill of a lifetime bodysurfing on prehuricane waves that were awesome!! Make sure to put aside a full day, wearing comfy clothes and shoes to visit the Louisbourg Fort, a stop at the Lobster Kettle for supper on their deck cannot be missed. The crab is to die for. On your way to the cabot trail, make sure to get out at the ferry in Englishtown and talk to some of the locals fishing and take in the beauty and starfish. You may want to return to this area on a seperate occasion to take in Donaldas puffin boat tour (well worth the money, we saw eagles, dolphins, seals, and gourgeous coastline) and to visit artisan alley, have a scrumptious lunch at the Clucking Hen, make sure to take some of their homemade treats along for the drive of a lifetime along the Cabot trail. Alexander Graham Bell museum was well worth a look on a rainy day, incredible what we don’t know about our own history, very interesting on many levels. We were also surprised by the interactive Gaelic village in Iona. The Red Shoes in Mabou goes without saying, great food and cold beverages, with ceilidhs every night.
We feel very priveledged to have stayed at Three Waters Villa and plan on returning, if you are looking for THE perfect place, look no more!!!
