The area is a step back in time into old fashioned Maine. Minutes away are a fort from the 1600’s, the famous Pemaquid lighthouse that is on the back of the Maine quarter(coin), and a picture postcard working harbor. Eat on the deck while fresh seafood is hauled in from the boats below. Freeport and Camden for shopping, Bath and Rockland for museums, Monhegan Island, antiquing, and auctions all within an hour away.
Additional Activities: This area has many unusual places to explore and enjoy. There is the world class Owls Head Transportation Museum which is home to everything transportation related-from horse drawn sleighs and carriages to steam powered ships, WW 1 era planes, the first 'woodie wagon' and the original 1963 Ford Mustang II. The Round Top Center for the Arts with concerts, classes, lectures, art shows and an arts and crafts gallery featuring local artists.
The Todd Audubon Sanctuary which includes 330- acre Hog Island, home to the oldest continuously operating adult environmental education camp in the U.S. The sanctuary is home to island and mainland walking trails with a seasonal visitor's center and nature store. And of course there is just the option of watching the waves from your beach chair on the fine white sand beach......
