About the property

New for 2014 HydraVista is a brand new development providing luxurious split level independent accommodation built to the highest standards and licensed by EOT, the Greek Tourism Organisation. Located in a prime position in Plakes Vlichou, enjoying unparalleled 180 degree views of the Peloponnese mainland including the islands of Spetses and Dokos, this ever changing vista culminates in some spectacular sunsets as the sun slowly sinks behind the hills of the mainland.

A small, mainly pebble/partially sandy beach is just a few paces below the property where the crystal clear waters are internationally recognised as amongst the cleanest in the world.

The Four Seasons resort is just a few minutes stroll where an organised beach is available with one of the finest lunchtime restaurants located on the beach providing fresh fish, home cooking, coffee and refreshments.

The jetty is located a minute's walk below the property where a shuttle boat to the port runs every fifteen to thirty minutes during the summer months. Alternatively take a leisurely stroll along the coastal path through Vlichos, across the old 17th Century footbridge and through the picturesque village of Kamini to the town - approximately a 35 to 40 minute walk.

Hydra town offers a cosmopolitan night-life with plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of Plakes Vlichou with the opportunity to unwind and enjoy the simple, stress-free lifestyle.

About Trevor Stokes

Trevor is British, married to Lili who is Greek, with two daughters Deborah & Caroline and HydraVista is owned jointly between the four of us. Having lived in London and Athens a day trip to Hydra convinced us that this was the ideal lifestyle for us - an island free of traffic and those wretched motorbikes which blight so many islands. The nearest we get to pollution is stepping over donkey droppings. This is a paradise for fresh air, clean sea and plenty of sun, as well as a treat for animal lovers with many cats well known to the island.

Between us we speak English, Greek and German with a modicum of French.

Trevor Stokes purchased this villa in 2005

Why Trevor Stokes chose Idra

We found this piece of land in 2005 and set our hearts on it even though it was not for sale at the time. By sheer perserverance it became ours and then followed the arduous task of building on an island without transportation.

The end result is a spectacular location right on the sea with a luxuriously finished accomodation where we have paid attention to details such as the Health beds imported from the UK which guarantee a comfortable night's sleep, designer wicker furniture and a kitchen equipped with Miele fridge, hob and microwave.

What makes this villa unique

The view is special. It changes by the hour and you can pass the time of day simply watching the boats and occasional donkey passing. It is peaceful and relaxed but within walking distance of a couple of noteable restaurants, two organised beaches as well as the small beach immediately below, and the town of Hydra just a few minutes boat ride away. It offers the best of both worlds. The exclusive patio and garden area provides the opportunity to sunbathe in private with views across the sea to the mainland and up to the mountains behind the property. The sunsets are remarkable.

HydraVista is superbly located 5 minutes from Plakas Beach where you have ammenities such as sun beds, refreshments without having to move, and an appealing taverna serving great Greek food - it became my dining room! There are a few other tavernas around there as well, if you don’t want to go into the Port. Just have to wear those weird rubber shoes on the pebble beach and you’re set! There’s a beautiful 45 minute walk into Hydra Port along which you can stop for refreshing swims off the rocks in water that ‘caresses’ you. In the Port you can shop till you drop, including your supermarket shopping, have coffee or lunch (or drinks and dinner later), hop in a water taxi and in 5 minutes you’re back at HydraVista. If you don’t want to walk, there’s a boat every half hour to take you into or out of the Port - of course, you pay for the boats. Being out of the Port gives you respite from the crowds - I loved that! HydraVista itself is beautifully appointed, is comfortable, well-looked after, and has a fresh white decor. It’s also fairly new. It is best for a couple or a single. My host,Trevor, was wonderfully amenable - there was a problem with the internet wiring in the street, and Trevor immediately provided a local chip until it was fixed. On arrival, he picked me up from the Port, helped me do the supermarket shopping, and helped with my bags. He was friendly and helpful in every way which makes a massive difference to a traveller without the local language. I stayed a month and didn’t want to leave! Big thank you to Trevor!

Wundervoller Ort mit allem Komfort

  • 5 of 5

Hydra is an island for relaxation. A step back into a slower pace of life where motor vehicles and even bicycles are prohibited. Transport is by sea-taxi, shuttle boat or by foot where glorious walks along the coastal path from the town to Plakes Vlichou proves a pleasurable experience in all seasons. The clean, unpolluted air and the local micro climate make the experience invigorating. Walks are unlimited on the island, up to some of the remote mountain top monasteries or to the uninhabited south-west coast of the island where quiet beaches can be found.

Hydra town boasts some fine old mansions, a museum and frequent art exhibitions from many well known Greek and international artists who reside on the island. Hydra has been, and remains, an inspiration to artists who fall in love with the light and textures. Poets, writers and musicians have always been attracted to Hydra and many live here permanently.

There is also a diving school, donkey rides and plenty of interesting churches but first and foremost it is a place to enjoy the simple life with an amazing selection of restaurants, tavernas, bars and cafes to while away your time.

Hydra is far from the commercial tourist traps and caters for people looking for a unique type of vacation.
