Modern 3 story house with surrounding decks on all floors and rooftop palapa area with 360 degree view of the water, sunsets and a great place for yoga! Located in green zone of island within easy walking and bicycling distance to all restaurants, shopping and activities. The yard is full of native vegetation and the trees are full of birds, orchids and geckos. The apartment has a tree house feel.
A great place for a family or 2 couples to spend a relaxing vacation on a beautiful caribbean island.
Having been born and raised in Miami, it was a natural for me to fall in love with CC on my first visit in 1978. My career as a veterinarian began after graduating from Ohio State University and continues today as I'm the vet for the CC Humane Society. I spend most of the year on the island and rest traveling the world. Casa Roja is my home.
Zeke purchased this house in 2004
I built my home here after visiting CC for over 20 years. Belize and CC have filled my dreams of the ocean and jungle and being able to get back to the USA when necessary.
Staying at Casa Roja always you to be close to the village, but being in the green, quieter part of the caye. Feels like living in a tree house with the trees surrounding be full of birds, orchids and geckos. A nature lover's place!
Casa Roja is a wonderful property in an even better location. It is located close enough to town that the walk is a matter of minutes, but far enough away to be very peaceful and quiet. The property around the house has been landscaped in great detail, and all of the orchids in the trees are just the icing on the cake. There is a pier not too far from the house that is great for swimming and snorkeling. There is a wide array of colorful fish around the pilings there. Zeke and Trude are amazing hosts, ready to answer any of your questions, or suggest a great spot for dinner. Caye Caulker is a wonderful little island, and Casa Roja is THE place to stay while you are there!! Thank you both for a great getaway.
Zeke's place was perfect fit for our family to come together over the holidays. The apartment was very clean and even though we didn't do any cooking the kitchen was well stocked for cooking. The palapa was fantastic. We would have morning coffee and evening drinks on the palapa where you have a 360 degree view of the island and ocean. The place is very secluded and Zeke has a great collection of orchids that you can walk around and view.
Zeke is a conscientious host, who welcomed us when we got off the boat and made sure we had a taxi( golf cart) to carry our luggage to the house. He had recommendations for restaurants and tours. Before coming Zeke was very prompt in answering my emails about any questions I had concerning travel or what to expect.
Caye Caulker should always be on your list as a stop when in Belize. We found the guides to be friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. My husband and son went fishing one day when they returned the guide filleted the fish and took it to a local restaurant to grill for us. We did not eat one meal where we were not raving about how good it was.
How wonderful to escape to this island paradise in winter! Casa Roja is located far enough away from the bustle and noise that it affords one a feeling of calm and serenity the minute you arrive. Great nights of sleep...choice of AC or fan. Ceiling fans in all rooms too! We felt more than safe here and loved biking up to the short path that leads back to the house, with the entrance lighted columns greeting us close to sunset and at night. Clean, neat, comfortable, local artwork, carribbean colors all very attractive! 2-6 people would be comfortable. Zeke post more pictures!
The view from the rooftop covered palapa(outdoor patio in Belize), afforded a 360 degree view, including water and boats! Did I mention the stars at night-unbelievable...don't think I have ever seen so many at once. The house is surrounded by lush foliage, palms, native fauna and even has beautiful orchids growing on branches. Laying in the hammocks relaxing and reading with the incredible breeze made one forget the snow and cold we had left behind. Reading on the patio right out the door in the clam shell chairs was just as relaxing!
We ate in and out. The kitchen allowed for cooking anything we wanted with China Town and Chan's groceries and the fruit and veggie stands providing most anything we wanted. Went to the meat store and the chicken store (next to the bakery-yummy) rather than buying that at grocery. We also enjoyed many breakfasts at Amore Cafe on Front Street, dinner at Syd's, a lunch at the Sports Bar and brought in many take out dinners! Ask Zeke for suggestions!
Exploring the island all the way to The Split and in between was terrific. I takes time to take it all in. We had a boat ride out to the reef and around the island, beautiful sail for 3 hours one afternoon and chartered a Tropic Air Cessna that accomodated 3 + the pilot to fly out over two Atolls, The Blue Hole, island that is a bird sanctuary, and the beautiful water plus the reef. Seeing the island from the air is terrific too.
Highly recommend that you consider staying at Zeke's. He greeted us upon arrival and helped in many ways during our wonderful stay! Will definitely return. Would recommend to family and friends!
We had an excellent stay in Caye Caulker for the month of June. We loved the jungle look and the beautful view from the top deck. The tropical colors of the house added to the feel of living in a casual island setting. Zeke was extremely helpful and friendly to me and my family. I would definately recommend Zeke's place for a perfect getaway. Renting bikes was a good idea for getting around. Swimming at the split is a must (we rented snorkels for 2.50/day) and eating jerk chicken from a grill stand cooked by a local. The resident cat was also a hit with our family. We hope to return again one day and enjoy another peaceful vacation.
Casa Roja was a much needed island retreat from the hustle & bustle of the big city. I came down to Caye Caulker to escape the city, rest and adopt the slower pace of life. Casa Roja was exactly how the pictures and Zeke described it...it really is one of the nicest houses on the island. My suite was very clean and had everything I needed and then some. The bed was very comfortable and I cranked on the AC at night and slept like a baby until whenever I decided to get up. My favorite thing about Casa Roja is that it is surrounded by wrap-around decks and such vibrant vegetation that provided me with the privacy I needed at times. During most evenings, I sat back in the deck chairs and listened to the wind blow through the palm trees. On the other hand, I also enjoyed sauntering into town and chatting with most people I met...Caye Caulker is a very friendly island...I loved it! Traveling on my own, I felt completely safe and at ease.
Zeke was very easy-going and full of great ideas of where to eat breakfast, where to snorkel, where the closest grocery store was located and where to find the best lobster...Wow! Syd's lobster was great! Zeke also provided me with a map of Caye Caulker when I first arrived so that I could get a good grasp on where most things were. Thanks for having me Zeke. I enjoyed myself immensely and am already looking forward to a future visit with family or friends. Thanks again and take care,
My favorite place was the palapa; sitting high above all but the tallest trees, watching the sail boats end their day against the fading sunset. Perched on the top step at night (with beverage in hand and resident kitten purring at your feet) and looking across towards the Caribbean you might be lucky enough to be memorized by the amber glow of the “burning” palmettos of Casa Roja. You can count yourself doubly blessed if you happen to share the evening with some falling stars (meteorites)…so close and so brilliant that at first I thought someone was shooting off Roman Candles!
I suppose most people travel to the Caribbean for holiday…I went to Caye Cauker in search of a quiet place where I could focus on a pressing deadline (work). Casa Roja was perfect; quiet, private and very comfortable. The Internet connectivity was completely reliable making it easy to do my work. Cable vision kept me aware of what was going on back at the office. Following the best night of sleep I’d had in many months I started day one with a fresh pot of coffee and a bowl of Malt-O-Meal (the kitchen has everything one might need for cooking and there are several grocery stores within a short walking distance)…then I booted up the lap top. Day two began the same but by early afternoon I hit “control, alt, delete”, put on my flip-flops and headed to the water to find Nemo (can’t do THAT back at the office!!). By day four I had conveniently forgotten my passwords to the computer and was swimming with dolphins, sea turtles, green fish, yellow fish, stripped fish, spotted fish…rays, sharks…WOW! Did I mention my feet? Imagine wearing flops while out and about on warm sandy beaches all day (that’s well enough) but then coming home to Casa Roja, kicking the shoes off at the door and stepping barefoot onto the smooth, clean, cool tile floors…my feet were happy and the stilettos were burned in effigy.
The property owner was in residence while I was there and he was a very gracious host…never intrusive; he knew I was there to work. But he also recognized in me a need to remember what is really important in life…thanks Zeke, I owe you one! I met my work deadlines at Casa Roja – very successfully…someday I’ll return just to play. Casa Roja is a wonderful setting for a romantic get-away; it is equally great for a family with little ones. Traveling alone I felt very safe during the day as well as at night time. Its 11:00 PM and I'm still at the office...wishing I was back on the palapa!
