We had a fantastic holiday. The weather was perfect, the house was clean and comfortable and the pool was refreshing and frequently used. The views from the garden were incredible and we spent a lot of happy hours playing games and ping pong.We visited numerous places,Domme,Sarlat,Beynac,Rocamadour, our favourite being Monpazier, we also enjoyed the evening food market in Belves which runs through the summer months and the steam train of Martel. We would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful and peaceful property - stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a week in early July and would highly recommend to all. The property is situated in a quiet, remote area with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The pool is a great size and kept very clean. The property was very clean and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. This is the perfect place to come for a relaxing time and there is a great deal to see in the area, with Sarlat being a particular favourite of ours. Overall we had a brilliant holiday and couldn't thank our host Bernard enough for his welcoming hospitality!

Life is good there!

We live in a city and our idea of a family holiday is to escape to the countryside. The Dordogne is just the right area for that. We knew about that because we’d stayed in the Perigord Noir before. But this time it was different.

Staying at ‘Le Coustalet’ was living like God in France.

Leaving the main road and driving along the winding country road you’ll soon become aware of the beauty of the region. The house itself is hidden from the road by a hedge –ensuring one’s privacy. It left us unprepared for the simply breathtaking view that reveals itself behind the house. Open the sliding door windows and step out onto the terrace above the downhill garden and be welcomed by undulating hills that go on forever. Waves of fields and woodland.

You’ll be quite happy just sitting in the garden thinking life doesn’t get much better than this. It does actually because you can also take a swim in the pool and admire all this beauty while your in the water. Reconnecting with nature is what this place is about for us. And at the same time it is also reassuring for us city folks to have all the comforts of home inside the house. Two bedrooms and bathroom in the attic. Very comfortable to have a bedroom with ensuite downstairs as well. Lovely kitchen/diner with sliding door windows so you’re never without that overwhelming panorama outside.

And then there’s animal life. We’ve spotted a deer three times between the trees at the foot of the hill where the garden touches the woodland. There’s horses grazing in the grassland. There’s quite a few small lizards that will join you when you’re on the terrace.

And if your really lucky you might enjoy the visit of a lovely small enthousiastic dog Buzz who lives next door.

Lot’s of places to visit in the area: Belvès, Montpazier, Castelnau, Domme, Beynac, Sarlat. We recommend a visit to the chateau de Milandes where the american singer and dancer Josephine Baker lived

We probably should have kept all of this a secret.

Finally we would like to thank you Bernard for the warm reception and the great conversations we had. Really enjoyed that We are truly grateful for this.

Lovely Perigord retreat

  • 5 of 5

Brilliant, fully equipped gite.

Clean and modern with a pool which receives sun throughout the day.

Couldn't beat the location for accessibility to the Perigord and Dordogne's offerings.

Close to the medieval town of Belves which has a lot of history and a range of amenities - highly recommend the waffle lady on the high street!

Host (Bernard) was very welcoming on arrival and unobtrusive throughout our stay, has a great knowledge of the local attractions and makes great walnut oil.

Will be back!

River Dordogne at Siorac-en-Périgord
Car: necessary

Pétrou is a little hamlet in the commune of Sagelat, set in rolling farmland and woods with superb views across a valley leading down to the Dordogne river. Only 5 minutes drive from the medieval market town of Belvès with shops, bars and restaurants, a bank, pharmacy and a medical center.

In the heart of the Périgord Noir region of the Dordogne, it is ideally situated for visits to all the major historical sites ; the Châteaux of Beynac, Castelnaud, and Les Milandes and the beautiful medieval towns and villages of Domme, Monpazier and La Roque Gageac are all within 20km. Sarlat the ancient regional capital and Les Eyzies the national centre of Prehistory are at about 25 minutes drive away.

Locally there is lots to to see and do ranging from golf, horse riding, and walking trails to hot-air ballooning, canoeing and boat trips on the river. Not forgetting that the region is reputed for it's gastronomic traditions and restaurants. The vineyards of Bergerac are at only 30 minutes drive.
