This lovely house and setting was exactly as we hoped and expected, based on the information. IT was ideal for a relaxed vacation. Rooms were spacious - especially the main living section. All aspects of the house/accommodations were excellent. The view couldn't be better, I could sit and gaze out at the environment for hours and find something of interest on the water, on the shore or across the lake, where I could see Tanglewood. The neighborhood was great for walking. The lake was great for boating. The location was convenient to all the local charm.
WOuld highly recommend.
We had a wonderful family weekend. Lonnie and Terri promptly answered all our questions. House was spacious and very family friendly. We wish the weather would have been a little warmer so we could have enjoyed the beautiful outside spaces more. Spectacular views! House was centrally located for all family members.
Our family enjoyed the peaceful setting of this home in the Berkshires. We loved the view and open floor plan. We enjoyed the lake by renting two kayaks for the week. We wish the lake was more swimmable but we did visit the neighborhood beach which was nice for the kids. The water wasn't very deep for the adults in the group.
Our stay was pretty pleasant until we met one of the neighbors. She knocked on our door one night and rudely asked us if we were renters and told us to more our car. (The house has two parking spots and then if you need more parking or have visitors you need to park in a visitor lot a half a mile away. The roads are dirt and narrow in the neighborhood.) We unknowingly parked on her property when my parents came to visit for dinner. My father is disabled and needed handicapped parking. We parked his car on a small patch of dirt between scrub pines across the street from our house assuming it was just woods and we wouldn't block the road. When I asked the women where my handicapped father should park she rudely said "I don't care it isn't my problem". I promptly moved the car for my parents and when I did I found a rude note on the windshield. I tried to let it go but later that night I received an email from the owner of our house saying they had received a complaint from a neighbor saying we parked on their lawn and that it wasn't cool that we parked on their property, it was a small neighborhood so we needed to play nice. I explained what really happened and how disrespectful this women was, that we moved when asked, and also let the home owner know we did not park on anyones lawn but instead we were in the woods that we assumed was public property. I received no response after that.
I felt as if the neighbor treated us poorly just because we were renters and could have had a lot more respect for the handicapped. We paid a LOT of money to rent this home for the week and we should not feel so disrespected. We will happily find somewhere else to spend our money next year.
This place has great views of the dramatic sky/lake stretch to Tanglewood. The house is neat, and accommodating. But most of all it is the area that is friendly and feels safe. Perfect for kids who are ready for a little freedom, and for adults who are ready for a glass of wine with a pastel sunset. We all would enjoy going back. The only thing that was lacking and that it needs to get that 5th star from me - is some water craft! A boat...or even two...to paddle about on that alluring lake. There is a rental place that delivers kyacks, but only if they are available- and at quite a hefty price. Otherwise...it's almost there...the dock is strong and able!
We just spent our fourth year vacationing in this home. That we have returned each year is a testament to the home (which is beautiful and set up for maximum comfort) as well as its setting and location. The area has natural beauty, theater, music, and museums, and provides opportunity for wonderful hiking, boating and swimming. The owners are delightful and fully accommodating. I fully recommend this rental.
This was our second July vacation staying at 24 Birch Lane. What a special place. The house is perfect. The panoramic view of the lake from the great room is amazing. The Kaplans were very accommodating and helpful. Private setting, friendly neighbors, kayaking and swimming, beautiful walks--what could be better!
Our home is located in the Berkshires on the Stockbridge Bowl. Local area includes: Lenox and Great Barrington. Tanglewood is so close you can hear the music at night!
