Still awesome!

My husband and I recently returned from our third annual (note the word annual) stay at Harbor Cottage. We intended to go elsewhere this year, but Harbor Cottage just called to us. As we walked in the front door the brightness, the airiness, the openness immediately reminded us of why we love this place. The harbor was still in view from all the windows, the lobster "mart" was still within an easy walk down the hill with the freshest lobsters ever, Seafood Ketch was still serving great food at harbor's edge in the sun, the ferry still sounded its fog horn on a foggy morning, and the cottage still welcomed. It's comforting to know that some things can be counted on to stay the same. This cottage is the perfect location for enjoying all that MDI has to offer. And it's the perfect location to return to after a day of exploring. Thanks, Roger!

Charming Cottage in Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

What a charming cottage in a beautiful location! We had the most peaceful and relaxing week and were so sad to say goodbye at the end of our stay.

The cottage is sparkling clean, well maintained, and has all the comforts of home. It is bright and airy and decorated very tastefully. The gardens are incredible - and we especially enjoyed the views of the sunsets over the ocean and mountains beyond. We also loved that the cottage is on the “quiet side” of the island, but easily accessible to the park with its carriage roads and hiking trails. Also just a quick 5 minute drive to Southwest Harbor’s markets and restaurants.

Roger, the owner of this fabulous property, is a gracious host – he greeted us with a phone call upon our arrival but didn’t intrude during our stay. We look forward to returning to this beautiful cottage another year!

I can't say enough about this beautiful cottage! My family and I can't wait to visit MDI again and will definitely try to book Roger's cottage. It's beautifully decorated and the views are amazing! I loved the natural light that flooded the cabin but there are shades in every window for privacy. The rooms are spacious and the kitchen is very well stocked. I only wish we could have stayed longer; it was so hard to leave!

We brought our 4 year old and an air mattress with us as the second bedroom is detached. He had no problem on the stairs and there was plenty of room for the three of us. That said, it's probably a better cottage for adults or older children. There were a few breakable objects that we put in a safe place but he's pretty calm so it worked well for us!

Roger was also incredibly helpful with recommendations and advice for our stay. He even called a restaurant to find out if it was kid friendly. He was prompt and absolutely wonderful to work with. Don't hesitate to book this cottage!!

From the minute we arrived we knew we chose the perfect spot for our honeymoon. The cottage is absolutely lovely, quaint, beautifully decorated. The decks and views are stunning and peaceful to sit anytime of the day. Amazing sunsets and quiet mornings watching lobster boats head out for the morning catch.

We wanted a quiet location and this truly is, the perfect escape and getaway.

We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, well supplied with dishes, pans, utensils - and eating with view of the ocean.

The bedroom is very spacious and yet warm and cozy with deck that overlooks ocean. Spectacular! Starry nights and ocean breezes.

We would love to come and stay here again.

Do not hesitate - book this luxury cottage - it truly is worth every penny you will spend. You will leave refreshed & rested.

And don't forget to sit in the lovely perennial and rose gardens. Butterflies and beautiful birds, we saw eagle close by. Don't forget to bring your bicycles - such pretty rides!

Roger and those that look out for the property have done an amazing job. The house is cozy and inviting and simply beautiful. I have not been this relaxed on a vacation in such a long time. To be able to look out almost every window and see the water with such a gift. And the location couldn't be better for experiencing all that mount desert island has to offer. The house is located in a quiet area yet close enough to do fun things. And the fact that there is a free shuttle within walking distance of the house was such a pleasure. The pictures both inside and outside of the home are extremely accurate yet they don't do the home and location true justice. Roger, thank you for opening your home to all of us.

Charming, cozy cottage with awe inspiring harbor views

  • 5 of 5

Harbor Cottage provides first rate charm and comfort against a serene harbor backdrop on the quiet side of Mt. Desert. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Harbor Cottage, whether we were taking in the quiet profile of the westernmost mountains or capturing the changing beauty of the sunset each evening right before us on the harbor. We were torn daily between going out to enjoy all the recreation in the Park, and remaining in our perfect perch above the harbor. Southwest Harbor is a short drive away for provisions. We highly recommend Milk and Honey Cafe in Northeast Harbor.

Roger Rosenthal, owner, is very personable, accessible, and responsive. We found the Cottage in tiptop shape and obviously very well loved and cared for inside and out.

We would love to come back many times.
