Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about this beautiful cottage! My family and I can't wait to visit MDI again and will definitely try to book Roger's cottage. It's beautifully decorated and the views are amazing! I loved the natural light that flooded the cabin but there are shades in every window for privacy. The rooms are spacious and the kitchen is very well stocked. I only wish we could have stayed longer; it was so hard to leave!

We brought our 4 year old and an air mattress with us as the second bedroom is detached. He had no problem on the stairs and there was plenty of room for the three of us. That said, it's probably a better cottage for adults or older children. There were a few breakable objects that we put in a safe place but he's pretty calm so it worked well for us!

Roger was also incredibly helpful with recommendations and advice for our stay. He even called a restaurant to find out if it was kid friendly. He was prompt and absolutely wonderful to work with. Don't hesitate to book this cottage!!

PERFECT IN EVERY WAY - BEAUTIFUL & PEACEFUL!

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we arrived we knew we chose the perfect spot for our honeymoon. The cottage is absolutely lovely, quaint, beautifully decorated. The decks and views are stunning and peaceful to sit anytime of the day. Amazing sunsets and quiet mornings watching lobster boats head out for the morning catch.

We wanted a quiet location and this truly is, the perfect escape and getaway.

We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, well supplied with dishes, pans, utensils - and eating with view of the ocean.

The bedroom is very spacious and yet warm and cozy with deck that overlooks ocean. Spectacular! Starry nights and ocean breezes.

We would love to come and stay here again.

Do not hesitate - book this luxury cottage - it truly is worth every penny you will spend. You will leave refreshed & rested.

And don't forget to sit in the lovely perennial and rose gardens. Butterflies and beautiful birds, we saw eagle close by. Don't forget to bring your bicycles - such pretty rides!

AMAZING!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Roger and those that look out for the property have done an amazing job. The house is cozy and inviting and simply beautiful. I have not been this relaxed on a vacation in such a long time. To be able to look out almost every window and see the water with such a gift. And the location couldn't be better for experiencing all that mount desert island has to offer. The house is located in a quiet area yet close enough to do fun things. And the fact that there is a free shuttle within walking distance of the house was such a pleasure. The pictures both inside and outside of the home are extremely accurate yet they don't do the home and location true justice. Roger, thank you for opening your home to all of us.

Charming, cozy cottage with awe inspiring harbor views

  • 5 of 5

Harbor Cottage provides first rate charm and comfort against a serene harbor backdrop on the quiet side of Mt. Desert. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Harbor Cottage, whether we were taking in the quiet profile of the westernmost mountains or capturing the changing beauty of the sunset each evening right before us on the harbor. We were torn daily between going out to enjoy all the recreation in the Park, and remaining in our perfect perch above the harbor. Southwest Harbor is a short drive away for provisions. We highly recommend Milk and Honey Cafe in Northeast Harbor.

Roger Rosenthal, owner, is very personable, accessible, and responsive. We found the Cottage in tiptop shape and obviously very well loved and cared for inside and out.

We would love to come back many times.

A delightful home in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a comfortable living space to call home for two tired professionals. We wanted the serenity and authenticity of Acadia's quiet side with easy access to its recreational resources. We found all this and much more in Harbor Cottage and Roger Rosenthal, its gracious owner. The beautifully renovatedtwo story house is situated on a hillside and looks over Bass Harbor and the Acadia Mts beyond. You can sit on the bedroom porch or in the dining nook and watch the lobster boats come and go or enjoy wonderful sunsets every night. The house itself is comfortable even in hot weather. Many windows on all sides allow breezes and light to flow gently on the hottest of days. We slept very well in the cool and spacious bedroom. Everything you need to feel comfortably at home is here - ample fridge and freezer, cooking space and utensils, washer and dryer, two bathrooms, jacuzzi. It's all here. It is also a lobster lover's paradise. Walk across the street to Rich Company and you can buy lobsters to cook that will tastes better and costs less than any restaurant's. Or drive a few miles to The Rogue Cafe and have a great dinner of basic delicious food for a decent price. buy fresh fish from Raymond the Fish Man down the road toward SW Harbor - the freshest you can imagine. everything you need is all right here. Even bike rentals and the best pie in the world from Island Pies in SW Harbor. You will never want to leave the Quiet Side and you will never have to (until that melancholy moment arrives at the end of your week's stay). This is the first place we have stayed in our 7 years of summering in Maine that we have known we will return to again and again, so long as it's available. By the way, Sept is a great time to visit Acadia - uncrowded but warm, touch of fall color, but so much quieter. And Roger, the owner is truly a gem. He was a truely gracious host. Well before we arrived, he was able to offer us lots of local tips about food shopping and other things that helped make our stay very special. In sum, if you are looking for a comfortable stay in a charming, clean and well equipped home (that feels more like a home than a rental) and if you are seeking an authentic Maine setting in a thriving fishing village with few tourists, Harbor Cottage will be a terrific match.

Perfect Stay on the "Quiet Side" of Acadia and Mount Desert Island!!

  • 5 of 5

In short, Harbor Cottage exceeded all expectations! It is bright, open, well decorated and landscaped! The bedroom has an open deck overlooking Bass Harbor and a private deck off the back. Incredible! The Cottage has everything you'll need for your stay (well equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, towels, etc. - can't comment on TV since we never turned it on).

We hiked nearby Wonderland Trail and made several trips to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, took the ferry for a day on Swan's Island, and ate at local Thurston's Lobster Pound and Seafood Ketch (both highly recommended). We also made several trips to Bar Harbor and the larger portion of Acadia National Park (Hiking Beehive Trail, Gorham Trail, Ocean Path and more). We took a Whale and Puffin Tour (Bar Harbor Whale Watch) and saw lots of wildlife and 4 humpback whales! We also went sea kayaking (with Aquaterra), also recommended!

Finally, a comment on our host, Roger. He was excellent with communication both prior to the trip and during our stay. We highly recommend Harbor Cottage!
