Venice Area Description and History:

Venice is one of the few cities on Florida's West Coast without a barrier island. The soft white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico form the western boundary of Venice. Fourteen miles (22.5 km) of beaches from Casey Key to Manasota Key offer unparalleled recreational opportunities including: swimming, sunbathing, fishing and boating. Shelling is also a favorite pastime, and fossilized sharks teeth can be found in abundance by sifting through the sand. Golfers enjoy excellent courses in the greater Venice area.

Venice is a Florida Main Street City; northern Italian architecture and beautifully landscaped boulevards that date back to the original city plans of 1925 grace its downtown. A historical treasure, Venice was originally called 'Horse and Chaise,' suggested by a tree formation along the coast. The settlement was named Venice after the canal city in Italy in 1888. Venice is a pleasant getaway for the vacationer who wants to relax and enjoy the Florida sunshine.

Things To Do in Venice:

Take a walk along the miles of golden, sandy, uncrowded beach to search for shells or fossilized shark’s teeth. Venice is known as the 'Shark's Tooth Capital of the World.' Sunbathe, swim, or fish in the surf.

Enjoy golfing at any one of the seven public golf courses located within the Venice area. At nearby Fisherman’s Wharf, you can rent scuba & snorkel gear. You may also try catching that big one at the Venice public 750-foot long fishing pier.

Stroll along Venice Avenue in the historic downtown area of Venice Island that is very much alive with exciting activities, shopping, and dining. Browse the many quaint specialty shops. Play tennis or basketball at the municipal courts located just beyond the downtown area. Take in a Broadway play or musical at the Venice Little Theater. The activities are endless!

All shopping, restaurants, supermarkets, golf, tennis, charter-fishing, pier-fishing, water sports, theater, and the Venice area hospital are within a 5 minute drive.

Venice Area Restaurants and Regional Attractions:

There are many area restaurants with several of them having an oceanfront or waterfront view. These include: Sharky's on the Pier (a must - Sunday night is “Reggae Night” featuring a live Calypso Band), Marker 4 Oyster Bar which has a Friday night fish fry, and The Crows Nest Marina Restaurant. For those landlubbers, try Luna Ristorante (great Italian fare), Ntinos Pizzeria and Restaurant (inexpensive and plentiful), Saltwater Café (superb seafood), Goldrush Barbeque (great baby back ribs), and MI Pueblo Mexican Restaurant (muy bueno Mexican food and Mariachis too).

Regional attractions include: Sarasota Kennel Club Dog Racing, Ringling Brothers Circus and Art Museums, the Mote Marine Aquarium and Laboratory, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Sarasota Jungle Gardens, The Gulfcoast Wonder and Imagination Zone, and the Museum of Cars and Music which are all located in Sarasota only 30 minutes north of Venice. Fort Myers is 1 hour south; Tampa and Busch Gardens are 1.5 hours north.

About Kevin or Dave Grodzicki

Venice Vacation Rentals is a family business that is owned and operated by a father, along with his two sons and their wives. Our family owns and leases five (5) beachfront villas that are all located within the Villas of Venice condominium complex. We typically visit our beachfront condos at least once or twice a year to vacation, replenish supplies, and assess any needed maintenance issues. Our family currently resides in Southeast Michigan, but we look forward to permanently moving to Venice, Florida in our future retirement years. Although we live in Michigan, we employ a very professional cleaning crew and maintenance team to keep our condos exceptionally clean and in great repair.

Kevin or Dave Grodzicki purchased this condo in 1990

Why Kevin or Dave Grodzicki chose Venice

We chose to purchase vacation rental condominiums in Venice Florida because of our beachfront location and the quiet uncrowded atmosphere surrounding our villas. In addition, Venice is known for its friendly, small-town feel, its quaint shopping center of low-rise buildings that are primarily in a Mediterranean style, and its lovely boulevard shaded by giant live oaks that extends from downtown to the beckoning beach. The beach, starting at the northern edge of the city where the Venice jetties open a passage from the Intra-coastal Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico, extends for miles. Much of it is undeveloped and merges into Sarasota County’s Caspersen Beach Park. Prehistoric sharks' teeth (there is no problem with sharks) are found on the beaches at Venice and Caspersen. Venice is known as the “Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World.” In addition to the lovely beach, a central park along Venice's main street, Venice Avenue, is the site of concerts, arts and craft shows, and various special events. Besides visiting the quaint shops, boutiques, and the central park along Venice Avenue, Venice offers many other activities to its residents and guests alike. There are many public golf courses to enjoy in the Venice area for the golf enthusiast. Fishermen have an abundance of areas to sport for that big catch too. Fishing is very popular at the 750 foot long Venice Municipal Fishing Pier located on Venice Island. In addition, the North and South Jetty's are also very popular for fishing. Of course, much fishing is also done in the surf directly on the beaches. The most common response of people who move here or who return each year to visit, is, “When we drove down Venice Avenue past the shops and parks and saw the beach, we knew this was where we wanted to be.” We invite you to see for yourself. We trust that you'll enjoy Venice Florida and our villas just as much as we do and will take pleasure in all that Venice, Florida has to offer!!

What makes this condo unique

Some of the unique benefits that you'll enjoy while staying at our vacation rental villas are as follows: Our condominium complex sits directly on Golden Beach, right on the Gulf of Mexico. This allows our guests to take a very short walk to reach our beachfront. In addition, Venice Island provides a 5-10 minute convenient drive to all area amenities including: the downtown shopping district, grocery stores, restaurants, lounges, golf courses, theater, fishing holes, the area hospital, etc. If you enjoy open-air dining, be sure to stop by 'Sharky's on the Pier' for your tropical dining experience. On Sunday evenings, they also have a Reggae band that is very fun to dance to!!

A older area but very clean

  • 4 of 5

Everything you want is available. The unit is older and could use an update in some rooms, but for what you get it is well worth it. Close to beach, next to pool, 2 bedroom w/king bed, 2 full bathrooms, lots of sq. ft. Would book it again.

Very disappointed!

  • 1 of 5

Would never stay there again. Villa is dated and shabby and was not clean. Trash can in kitchen was dirty. Carpeting was dirty as well as upholstered furniture. Had to cover furniture with sheets in order to feel comfortable. Vacuum cleaner was filthy and not useable. Included linens were old, frayed and some blankets had holes in them. Kitchen stove had two burners that were not functioning. Oven needed cleaning. Pots, pans old and many dishes were chipped. Dishwasher needs replacing (had to run on heavy duty cycle in order to clean dishes.) Washing machine was rusted. Closet containing beach items had unusable, rusted and broken items. Only positive comments would be that the location is great with the beach located just a 2 minute walk away and pool on premises is great.

Owner's Response: To whom it may concern: We were totally unaware of the property condition that these guests claim it to be in. We live 1,300 miles away from this condo and we have to rely on our cleaning lady to let us know if the condo needs repairs, new supplies, or a deep cleaning. Unfortunately the cleaning lady was not properly doing her job and was not alerting us to the condition of the property. We are therefore taking action to prevent this from happening in the future. Specifically: We have arranged for cleaning lady to perform a thorough deep cleaning of the property in May 2017 when our reservations have slowed down from the winter/Easter season. He have also contacted our maintenance man and he has been working on the property repairs during the past two days. This week we plan on ordering and installing a new stove, a new clothes washer, new vertical blinds, and have arranged to have the carpet and upholstery cleaned. We will also be visiting the property in May 2017 and we plan to replace any worn out kitchenware, linens, and anything else in poor condition we we get down to Florida. According to our maintenance man, however, the property was not nearly in the extreme poor condition that these guests claimed it to be in. Yes, the condo does need a spring cleaning and some things do need minor repair or replacing, however, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We are always upfront with our guests. We always inform them right from the start that the condo is not a luxury property located within a resort. We let them know up-front that the condo is basically a beachfront cottage and has a cottage-like atmosphere. We let our guests know that if they are looking for luxury, then this is not the condo for them. We do tell our guests that we can offer them a modest beachfront condo that provides quiet relaxing accommodations that include all of the comforts of home. Therefore, if these guests were expecting a luxury condo in tip-top condition, then they were wrong for booking the condo in the first place with their high expectations. We will assure you that we are right now addressing and working on resolving the complaints that these guests had. However, without our cleaning lady, maintenance man and guests letting us know about maintenance, repairs, or cleaning concerns, then we will never know about these issues and will never be able to resolve them unless we are informed of maintenance items because we do, however, live out of state.

Venice Villas

  • 4 of 5

We have been visiting Venice villas for many years. The location is the best, close to the beach, quiet, clean. Some of the units could use updating but they are clean with plenty of linens, towels and most things you need for cooking. Kevin and David are great from start to end any problems are just a call away with quick response. Have always enjoyed our stays at Venice villas. Also NO bugs in all the years we have stayed. Beds in the units we rented are comfortable. The beach is a short minute walk away, we have visited in December and July and both months the beach is sparsely visited by others. There is plenty to do in area, Publix is a quick drive. Great place to relax and unwind.
