I'm not a Gershwin fanatic, but I loved being An American in Paris! in Venice, and in Lake Havasu! Atop the list of my best-days-ever are all those I've spent traveling; either abroad or here in the States. I've visited at least one place I've never been before, every year since 1992. Some years that's been with my husband & sons, sometimes with my parents & sisters and sometimes with dear friends, but ALWAYS in search of what's out there that's different! And... you know what?...They Can't Take That Away From Me!
Shelly purchased this Guest House in 2011
Why Shelly chose Pella
'Pella' means 'City of Refuge' and vistors to The Guesthouse will find exactly that; a calming, refreshing kind of solitude, set above the bustle of the street. If it's Solice for the Soul you seek, choose from one of 25 churches inside the city limits. If it's retail therapy you need, explore the specialty shops that line the streets. There's a lake for watersports, river bluffs for nature hiking, and Bald Eagle sightings, bikes trails to bike, jog, walk or cross-country ski, a bowling alley, swimpark, movie theater, ethnic and American eateries; ALL inside a 5 minute car ride. I'm born and raised a 'Pella-can' and Dorothy, there's no place like home!
What makes this Guest House unique
The Guesthouse is the only lodging available on the Pella town square which puts no less than four Dutch bakeries and meat markets within smelling distance! Visitors won't fight crowds or lines anywhere unless it's the annual Pella Tulip Time festival, in which case you're still in luck because The Guesthouse's street-level veranda is prime seating for the Volks Parades and centrally located between all the poffertjes, vetbollen and pork-chop-on-a-stick stands!

Nice Pella stay
Nice place. Would stay again.
Not what I expected.
I was disappointed with the cheap, thin, beaded sheets that did not stay on the bed. The toilet paper and bath towels couldn’t have been any thinner! Would have been nice to have a Kleenex. The two rooms without fans were VERY stuffy. No amends were made for us. Thermostat was on 74 and not comfortable. I didn’t realize I needed to strip beds and take out trash. That’s not right when there’s a cleaning fee.
