About Christel Walter
We raised our family of two sons and a daughter on Long Island but consider ourselves Southerners since we ourselves grew up in the southern part of Germany. Gardening and baking bread, woodworking, weaving and keeping bees, gathering wild berries and mushrooms are some of our hobbies. Making music and volunteering add meaning to our days. Our grand children love to visit exploring the woods and creeks, climbing trees, picking berries and hiking the trails.
Christel Walter purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Christel Walter chose Mill Spring
Although we purchased "Lokichante," our guest cabin, only in 2014 we have lived and still live up the hill. The property with our permanent home was purchased in the 1970s and our dream to retire here came true in 2002. We are very familiar with the area and the recreational resources available. We love hiking and all things nature, enjoy the arts and crafts scene and the community. Our property is in close proximity to the Tryon International Equestrian Center, Chimney Rock State Park, Lake Lure with public beach, zip lining, tubing, white water rafting, tennis, golfing and fishing
What makes this Cabin unique
Conservation is our passion. In his book "Bringing Nature Home" Doug Tallamy describes how people and the natural world are all connected. The credo of conservation is to let nature be in charge. We clear fallen trees and remove poison ivy along the trails, try to eradicate invasive species and encourage habitat for native flora and fauna. Although our cabin has all the modern amenities such as TV, cable and WiFi we encourage our guests to untether, especially the children, engage their senses and take advantage of all this unique property has to offer. Once it was giant chestnut trees that dominated the forests of North America. Our cabin bears witnesses to this bygone era. After a day at the equestrian center or spending time at all kinds of local attractions what could be more relaxing than watching the sun set while rocking on the porch and listening to a frog concert.

Back to nature!
The cabin was nice with a bit of history to go with it! The surroundings are amazing!! Had an absolute great time hicking the trails, hunting for edible wild mushrooms and my daughter loved the canoe. Went fishing from the rock and my 9 year old caught a VERY NICE bass. We threw him back. We had a blast and made alot of wonderful memories. And the owners are very nice😁
so glad Elaina got her fish and if you are ever starving you now know there a re edible things in the woods
Just what we needed.
I wanted to take my sister and her husband on a relaxing vacation. We were so excited with this cabin in the woods. It is surrounded by mountains and a stream runs beside it. The inside of the cabin is immaculate and the host very accommodating. They have benches by the two waterfalls of the stream so you can sit and soak up the sounds and beauty of your surroundings. Nature has a way of relaxing and destressing your mind if you are quiet for a while and focus on what you are seeing and hearing. We also walked through the forest on the many paths they have. One of the paths leads to the Green River. My husband did a little fly fishing while we relaxed on the shore watching him. The host have so many interesting stories of their own, they are part of what makes up the charm of this place. We hope to return and I know my sister and brother in law want to come back too.
We are always excited when our guests appreciate what we love. We feel this is such a unique place where we respect the history that comes with the cabins and the beauty of the natural surroundings. Nature has a way of being in charge here. We have learned to appreciate that when a tree falls it will eventually nourish the soil and bring forth new life. We always hope that our guests will tune in to these cycles and feel connected.
We are so glad you could come and were able to de-stress.
Great place for your family!!!
Great all around!!!
The property is so natural yet has all the amenities. We were able to hike from the property to waterfalls and the Green River and cook a gourmet meal in the beautiful kitchen. We will definitely return!
A perfect getaway
We stayed at this beautiful property for a last minute long weekend and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Our goal was to disconnect from our busy schedules and technology and the weekend was a resounding success. The house has a rustic charm to it but comes equipped with all of the modern amenities you would need. We traveled with our 3 children (10,9 and 5). We all thoroughly enjoyed the pond for fishing, swimming and going out on the canoe. The trail to the river was very manageable even carrying "stuff" and we loved wading in the river and skipping stones. We took walks on several of the trails- some were much easier to traverse than others but all were manageable. The waterfall is beautiful and being able to sit on the front porch and listen to it while drinking coffee in the morning was so peaceful. Christel and Manfred were wonderful hosts- they greeted us the first night and made sure we knew they were available for any assistance but also gave us our privacy. We have rented quite a few houses in all areas and this is the first house we have said we would definitely return to. The property is a true one of a kind. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Cabin in Mill Spring NC
Had a wonderful week with family. Cabin was clean and had all that you needed to prepare meals. Christel and Manfred were the perfect host. They told was about the area and gave us a detail map of all the hiking trails. Grandchildren really enjoyed catching bream in the pond and zip lining. Great place to relax and enjoy nature.
Thank you Kathy and Dewey
