Small cabin in nice town, not ideal for winter months
We stayed over the New Year in this cabin. Cleanliness was not exactly great - the jacuzzi had some dirt or something in it and was stained. The couch looked gross and was sagging. I did not want to sit on it. The bath tub could have been cleaned as well, and there were a few dead bugs in the room. The sleeper bed was in the couch and something I would not have touched. The Waumandee House was next to the property - it's a bar with decent food. However, it's not open all the time and breakfast there was not an option. The area was fairly vacant with beautiful views. There is a general store you can walk to that has the basics; however, you have to drive a good 20-30 minutes for any decent grocery shopping (Winona, MN). The cabin does not have a kitchenette in it, which is a huge downfall for food in the winter. I expect summer hours are longer and more frequent. There also was not a trash can around - the only one was this tiny one in the bathroom. When we were getting ready to check out, no one was around. We tried to call the number, but it went straight to voicemail. Had we had an issue, I don't think we would have been able to get ahold of anyone. Also, New Year's Eve next to the bar was wild, and I was awakened in the middle of the night by people yelling and bass booming. Otherwise, quiet and homey. Wi-Fi worked well. The TV was hard to see in the bed because the bed had these pillars and this weird design over the top. The heater was very noisy. The design is beautiful though, and it's a nice, simple cabin for someone that doesn't need a bunch of amenities. The jacuzzi tub was a huge plus. Extra blankets for winter months would have been nice too. There's so much to do outdoors and many state parks to visit, but in the winter, there are not a lot of indoor activities around. However, we wanted a simple vacation so that was not necessarily an issue. If you want food other than from the bar, you do have to drive about 10-15 minutes to another town.
This is the first ever negative response on the Jacuzzi suite room. I don’t know what your definition of gross is? Don’t like the color or style? Normally sofa sleepers have some sag as there are springs that give for comfort when sleeping! Everything is cleaned thoroughly by competent housekeepers. We do have well water with a sand point which can pick up sand as part of a well system, even with city water! . This is clean and state inspected well water.
As far as the bugs, you didn’t specify type of bugs? The only bugs we can get are Asian beetles/ lady bugs and box elder bugs which are harmless and unavoidable unless we use dangerous pesticides which we try and avoid! Any dwelling is not free of these harmless and beneficial bugs. The restaurant is a separate business which we have to control of their hours of operation!
Our stay was wonderful. Absolutely gorgeous part of the state, and the family running the resort and restaurant are so friendly. Our cabin was very nice and comfortable. We definitely will be back:)
Worked well for touring area sites. Nice hot tub.
Clean and cozy.
We had a great time! The cabin was so nice!
Thank you for staying with us!

Thank you for staying with us! It was a pleasure having you stay with us and we look forward to your next visit!
Great Get Away
Owner is very friendly. The place was just what my girlfriend needed to unwind and relax. Winery nearby and we loved watching the sunset on the Mississippi River at Alma.
