On the first level, you’ll find the family room, kitchen, bath with laundry and 3 bedrooms, two with beautiful ocean views. There is also a covered porch with direct views an adjacent pond; a great birding habitat. The second floor features an open floor plan, living room, gourmet kitchen, half bath, and dining area in a multi faceted turret. The living and dining areas have a wall of windows offering spectacular ocean views. Off of the living/dining area there’s a large open sun deck which faces out to sea, overlooking the dramatic cliffs of White Head Passage, light houses, and ships coming and going from around the globe. At the rear of the home there’s a covered porch overlooking the pond. Master bedroom suite occupies the third level, complete with a luxury full bath, laundry, and private turret sitting room/study.

About Jeannie Ashmore

My husband and I work and live on the island. We are the owners of Ashmore Realty. Ralph, is the pretty good realtor and I do the rentals. I am Jeannie. He built and designed the house. We lived on the first floor for a few years as it was a labor of love as they say!

Our son Nate was brought up on the island and now lives in Portland with his wife Skye and our grandson Alistair, who's 4!.

My husband is the 4th generation to live on Peaks Island. His great-grandmother sold real estate back when you might spend $1 - 2,000 for a house. His Mom brought him here to spend his summers as a kid, from Massachusetts.She moved to the island to live year round and left MA. Ralph's love of the island is deeply engrained for generations. We hope to pass it along to Nate and his family.

Why Jeannie Ashmore chose Portland and Casco Bay Area

They say location, location, location!!! This house has it. Ocean in the front and pond in the back. Plenty of yard surrounds the house to buffer it from neighbors and noise. Private and beautiful.My husband bought the land several years before we decided to build. The house is situated on the lot to take advantage of the South facing sun and we also get glimpses of the West setting sun.

What makes this house unique

When the lot came up for sale my husband recognized what a deal and what a fabulous location it has on the South side of Peaks Island. Course the plan was to always build a house on the lot. And he did. We have our share of pickled bead board ceilings, custom made cabinets all through the house, kitchen, bathrooms, and living room. The dining and sitting rooms are located in the turret space. The sitting area is located off the master bedroom on the top level and it offer spectacular views night and day! Our grand kids sleep in the turret when they visit!

Peaks Island is a safe small community. It's become a wedding destination for many to be brides. This property location is private, quiet, except for the waves and birds. Still close enough to the ferry, great for bike rides, hikes around the island. The yard surrounding the house is large when compared to others on Peaks. Kids can run around, play games or you can just sit on one of the 3 decks/covered porches to rock, read or catch some rays.
