Cabin, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 8)
The Retreat at Pipestem is a 10 acre secluded property, directly adjacent to Pipestem State Park and Resort. It offers the quietness and solitude of being deep in the woods, away from it all, and yet has all the activities the beautiful State Park has to offer close at hand. Some, such as swimming, fishing, hiking, golf and dining are only 10 to 15 minutes away by foot.
The cabin was built in 2007. It is open and spacious, yet cozy. A wrap around porch offers beautifully wooded views of sunrise and sunset.
The main level consists of a dining area and full kitchen, a powder room and comfortable living area. Sliding glass doors open to the back deck.
Upstairs is a master bedroom with separate bath (toilet - shower - sink) and two other bedrooms which share a bath. (shower, sink and toilet).
There is one bedroom here, with two twin beds, built into the wal. While perfectly suitable for adults, it's specially children who love this room. There is no bathroom on this level.
Our own website will give a more complete picture of what we have to offer, including online booking and secure payments and floorplans.
The area around Pipestem offers extensive activities, many at walking distance from the Retreat and others within a short drive.

About Lisa or Hans
Being a teacher in a big city, I always longed to go back to West Virginia. Having two cats, always made it difficult to find a good place to stay and the Cardinal is just ideal to bring them. As my husband works on ships and is away from home for months at a time, I wanted a place where I could be close to my mother who still lives in West Virginia and also feel safe.
Lisa or Hans purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Lisa or Hans chose Pipestem
Having grown up in West Virginia, I always wanted a vacation house in Southern West Virginia. When we found The Retreat at Pipestem we simply fell in love with the place. It's so beautiful and quiet and yet so close by the State Park that we could not resist. There were two log homes at that time and the Cardinal was never finished. We found a local builder who did a beautiful job finishing the log home and now having this house available, we decided that sharing this incredible experience was the natural thing to do.
What makes this Cabin unique
The saying that for real estate, the three most important things are location, location and location is certainly true for the Cardinal. Within a mile of the Lodge of Pipestem State Park with all the activities going with it. Being away from the main roads but still within of few miles of them, make this place a true gem amongst vacation homes.

A perfect getaway!
The propert was spotless. We had a cozy comfortable couple of days. It was so much fun. My daughter, best friend and grandson enjoyed every second. The snowfall was magical! Coming from Florida it was the perfect place for my daughter and grandson to experience their first snowfall. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.
cozy, little home
we had a great experience and the owner was very easy and pleasant to communicate with.
Lisa and Hans have a lovely property adjacent to Pipestem State Park. The well-appointed "cabin" (much nicer than a mere cabin) was clean and had everything we needed. The wooded setting was quiet and beautiful. Lisa and Hans were great communicators responding quickly to any and all inquires. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a great home away from home!
Comfortable home in a wonderful location
The house was just as described and Hans and Lisa were very helpful. We never met but they answered my (too many) questions quickly and provided excellent directions! (When they tell you not to rely on your GPS, they aren't kidding but their driving directions were spot on.)
The wi-fi was out for maybe a day and a half but who needs wi-fi on a vacation with so much to do? Anyway, the service was restored before I even decided to contact them.
This place is so close to Pipestem Park that I took the kids swimming nearly every day, the horseback trail ride was a big hit, and we had fierce badminton competitions. The younger kids also enjoyed the playgrounds (I think there were at least three playgrounds).
We cooked out on the grill and made s'mores in the fire-pit. Our friendly neighbors were pleasant company. Remember to bring your own firewood and charcoal.
The house was clean and comfy and the children I traveled with loved it and swapped beds every night. The cubby beds in the lower level were a big hit.
Everything in the kitchen worked perfectly and there were plenty of cooking utensils. The dishes provided were pretty nice (and breakable) and not, I decided, suitable for the under-three children. You will have to provide your own paper or plastic plates and cups. Other than salt and pepper, there were no other pantry supplies in the house so make a list and pack in everything you need.
We have already decided that we want to go back next year for our next vacation!
Well secluded, but not too private due to other cabins nearby.
The property was supposed to be for pets but it was difficult to take our dog out because of all the steps! Lots of steps at every entrance! And there were ants all over the kitchen, had to throw doughnuts away. The DVD player was broken and we could only get one lock box open, so just one key had to be shared. Other than that lots of sleeping room and it was quiet way back there!
The Cardinal was very comfy and home like
We had a great stay. We will definitely be back again.
