This ancient dwelling Cadore, from the mid-century. XV, is located in Valle di Cadore, a town of about 2000 inhabitants, in the heart of the Dolomite region.
The building, which has been restored recently and has been the subject of a monographic publication (see. Paola Arduini, 'Galeazzi Casa del Carmine: an ancient cadorina' dwelling, Vianello Libri, 2013, ISBN 88-7200-401-2), is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Cadore: it belonged to the ancient house of del Carmine Galeazzi , whose origins date back to Andrea da Cesena, mercenary captain in the pay of the Serenissima. The current owners are descended from just such a family. The recent restoration of the building made it possible to bring back to light interesting architectural and decorative details, including fine frescoes dating from the buckets. XVI and XVIII. Even much of the interior furnishings are from the furniture and furnishings from the family and are an interesting historical and artistic documentation.
The house is suitable for those who love, in addition to comfort, tranquility and nature, that is old, valuable and rich in history.
From the spacious terraces facing south and sunny garden it offers a splendid view of the Dolomites. The nearest ski slopes are San Vito di Cadore - 15 km - and Cortina d'Ampezzo, 'queen' of the Dolomites and home to the 1956 Winter Olympics - 23 km away.
Among the many recreational and sporting activities that can be practiced in the vicinity will be mentioned cycling and mountain biking, fishing, golf, horse riding, mountaineering, paragliding, ice skating, skiing, snowboarding, summer skibob, swimming, tennis, walking, caving, free climbing, rafting, windsurfing, sailing.
An indoor swimming pool (heated and with saltwater) and a spa tub completely restore the guests after a day in sports or cultural activities, before dinner in the large frescoed dining room or backyard barbecue.
The house can accommodate up to 8 adults and 3 children, 4 bedrooms on the first floor, each with private bath. On the ground floor there are 1 large fully equipped kitchen (with table for 8-10 people), 1 dining room (for 12 persons), 1 living room, 1 dining room (with single sofa bed and a private bathroom with shower: for a possible ninth adult guest), 1 laundry room, 1 toilet.
The indoor heated pool 28 ° -30 ° degrees (downstairs, at garden level) is equipped with a toilet and chromotherapy shower, as well as a fitness area and a relaxation area with 70-inch TV, table football, playstation,.

Living within Italian History
We had a fantastic adventure at this historic Italian home. I am thankful that Paola and her family are willing to welcome and trust guests into this unique home. We loved the "fun" stuff in the lower level such as swimming pool and fooz ball table.
We enjoyed reading the wonderful book Paola wrote about the restoration of the property, strongly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy the pre and post photos. We purchased our own copy of the book to take home in a book store about 2 blocks away.
This home is historic, but yet updated for today's travelers needs. Example: Dishwasher, large refrigerator, lots of hot water, updated technology and wifi. Would highly recommend this property!
Staying in a house from 1442 was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially with the updated facilities. There were six of us, including 8- and 10-year-old grandsons, and we had plenty of room to spread out. The boys, in particular, enjoyed having the pool after long, active days. We enjoyed the book by the owner on the restoration of the property.
Our only problem was that it was further from Cortina than we had expected. One grandson had to be in Cortina for soccer camp every day. But we worked it out and would still rent this place, knowing now how special it is.
It was hard to tear ourselves away from the villa to visit the area!
A stunning villa! More beautiful than the pictures. Would have loved to have stayed longer. Thank you Paola!!
Luxurious, well-appointed, and lovingly restored
The Casa Galeazzi del Carmine in Valle Di Cadore was a fantastic find. It is close to Cortina d'Ampezzo (but not too close to feel faux authentic). It has a wonderful library, fine kitchen, and indoor pool. There are ample rooms to read and relax - (including two living rooms and a huge formal dining room) as well as a small restored stone-arched alcove chamber that feels absolutely timeless. There is private garage parking for two cars as well as a little bike shop and market within easy walking distance. The vistas of the Dolemites from the balcony are stellar, and the WiFi systems are very fast (e.g., you can stream NetFlix with no issues). Finally, the owner Paola was a gem (and a wealth of information). She has written a lovely coffee-table style book on the restoration of the villa that is available on Amazon that has a wealth of information on the Villa. We were there in mid September, and the temperatures were excellent, and most of the lifts were open (e.g., 5 torri, Misurina, etc.). If you are inclined to biking, the path # 9 going to Prato Piazza from Cortina was great (rent a regular or e-bike from the "Snow Service 1" sports shop across from the market in Cortina). The Villa (Casa Galeazzi del Carmine) is a classic house!
Unique historic home
My multi-generation family enjoyed a week in Paola's Valle di Cadore home in the beautiful mountains of northern Italy. The unique, historic home exceeded all of our expectations and was itself one of the highlights of our trip. Paola was an outstanding host and Maria answered many questions about where to find the best food in the area! We would recommend this listing highly. We rented bicycles for the week and especially loved the bicycle trail right near the house, traveling one direction to Cortina and the other to Calazazo. The cycling in this area is among the best anywhere! We loved our visit and plan to return. Miller Rogers Family
Our family and friends (total of 8) spent two memorable weeks in the villa and enjoyed every moment of it. The house was well suited for both formal and informal dining, recreation, family time and space-just wonderful.
The location of the house was superb for our needs: walking distance to markets, banks, etc plus a reasonably short drive to the incredible hiking sites we desired. We used the house as a base for family members to adventure off to further 2-3 day excursions to Florence, Venice, Bologna.
Could not recommend it higher-or the hostess, who responded quickly and efficiently to any of our small requests.
Casa Galeazzi del Carmine is an ancient residence (sec. XV) located near Cortina, in the heart of the Dolomite region. Valle is a town of about 2000 inhabitants, which extends to the slopes of Mount Antelao. It is a town rich in ancient history, about 120 km from Venice and just over 20 km from Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is one of the main destinations for summer and winter tourism in the region. The locality is an ideal starting point for cultural and naturalistic excursions and for the practice of countless sporting and recreational activities.
Casa Galeazzi del Carmine is less than 4 km from Pieve di Cadore, the historical and cultural 'capital' of Cadore, as well as the birthplace of Tiziano Vecellio, the most famous painter of the Venetian Renaissance: even today in Pieve it is possible to visit the house ( transformed into a museum) that gave birth to the painter. The painting 'Madonna, a holy Bishop, Sant'Andrea and Titian' can also be admired in the archidiaconal church of Pieve of the great painter.
Another place of interest near Casa Galeazzi del Carmine is Vigo di Cadore, with the church of Sant'Orsola, where a remarkable cycle of 14th-century frescoes is preserved. A short distance from Vigo, in Laggio, it is also worth mentioning the ancient church of Santa Margherita, with frescoes of Byzantine taste. An hour and a half drive from Valle di Cadore is Venice, which for its urban features and its artistic heritage is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world; roughly the same distance from Valle winds the famous route of the Venetian villas, built around the middle of the century. XVI by architect Andrea Palladio and admirably frescoed. Also the other Venetian cities (Belluno, Treviso, Padova, Vicenza, Verona), each with its peculiarities and its rich past, deserve to be visited.
SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Among the activities that can be practiced in the vicinity of Casa Galeazzi del Carmine will be mentioned cycling and mountain biking, fishing, golf, horseback riding, mountaineering, paragliding, ice skating, skiing, snowboarding, summer skibob, swimming, tennis, walking, caving, free climbing, rafting, windsurfing, sailing.
FASHION, SHOPPING, GASTRONOMY:
A little more than twenty miles from Valle di Cadore, Cortina d'Ampezzo, which has been one of the most fashionable and glamorous cities in Italy for decades, offers the best of Italian and international fashion. Particularly noteworthy is the Cooperativa di Cortina, a shopping center that is one of the city's emblems, with particular and sought-after products in various sectors, from clothing to accessories to objects. About an hour and a half drive from Valle (and half an hour from Venice) there is one of the most prestigious Italian outlets (the Outlet Village of Noventa di Piave), with over one hundred single-brand and multi-brand stores and a large choice of products from the best brands, from Prada to Valentino, from Gucci to Burberry. As for the gastronomy, a great variety of restaurants in the area will be able to satisfy even the most demanding palates: among these the restaurant 'Al Capriolo' (with a Michelin star), in the village of Vodo, just ten minutes by car from Casa Galeazzi del Carmine.
Messner Mountain Museum 'Dolomites' (on Monte Rite); murals in Cibiana di Cadore; eyewear museum and Santa Claus' home in Pieve di Cadore; a museum of the cìdolo and of the lumber in Perarolo (in the so-called "royal villa", adorned with valuable stuccoes).
