Vintage Beach Cottage is an immaculate and well-maintained one-bedroom cottage just steps away from the shore in the enchanting neighborhood of Puako. Just cross the quiet road to watch turtles resting on the warm sand and dolphins and whales frolicking offshore, followed by vibrant beach sunsets each evening. Ideal for a couple or single looking for total relaxation, the cottage is delightfully decorated in vintage-look Hawaiian fabrics, Hawaiian art, shells and surfboards. A brief stroll away, the Puako General Store offers charming local hospitality. Meet the owners or talk story with neighbors while enjoying a cool beverage, a refreshing ice cream bar, or selecting a movie to watch after the sun goes down.
This cozy one bedroom/one bathroom home rests on grounds that are well-maintained, private and peaceful. The lush green lawn is fenced for undisturbed enjoyment of a hammock to nap or lounge with your favorite book. Shower off after the beach in a wonderful garden shower surrounded by the lovely scents of stephanotis and jasmine. Begin your mornings with a cup of coffee in the covered-lanai garden with ocean view. Dine indoors or out, at the shell-inlaid table in the dining nook or under the stars on the lanai. Drift off to a restful sleep with ocean breezes and the soft scent of pakalana flowing through the French doors of the master bedroom.
The living area, with adjacent kitchen and dining nook, is decorated with vintage rattan and custom-made furnishings, Hawaiian fabrics, Hawaiian art and resource library. Details throughout include koa wood cabinetry, vintage wood floors, custom wood paneling, live orchids and houseplants. The kitchen is equipped with stainless-steel appliances, gourmet cookware, spices, tea and coffee and an assortment of picnic/beach gear.
This cottage boasts a comfortable, colorful bedroom with covered lanai (patio), king-size bed and the added advantage of air conditioning. A full bath with tub/shower combination is easily accessible midway between the bedroom and kitchen. The laundry room is conveniently located near the kitchen.

The home was clean and stocked beyond our expectations. The best part was the privacy, location and the home is beautiful. Everything was perfect and very comfortable.
This is our new favorite spot in Puako! The cottage is a wonderful retreat, with everything you could imagine you would need to enjoy a get-away. The cottage was lovingly built by the owner's and every detail is near perfect. A full kitchen so eating in is a real pleasure. The outdoor shower is so nice when you come back from the beach, with sinks and hooks for cleaning up your gear. Laying out under the amazing tree in the hammock and watching the stars at night for a perfect end to every day.
We first visited the Vintage Beach Cottage last fall, and there was an opportunity to grab the only week available (do to a cancellation) before the summer, so we came back. We have been all over the islands, and by far, the Vintage Beach Cottage has been our all around favorite. We usually stay in beach front condo's, but this place is PRIVATE, and QUIET. It is so easy to relax, and you can hear the ocean constantly even though you are not beach front. The ocean is right across the street, and you get a peak of it through the living room. Speaking of which, the accommodations are immaculate, impeccable, and the amenities are nothing like staying in a generic condo. As soon as you walk in the door, you know you are home. It is a very spacious one bedroom and has everything you need to have a fabulous time. The kitchen is better equipped then my own kitchen at home. We definitely will be back when we get the chance. Beautifully maintained home, well stocked and immaculate. Owner lives on site. Visitors, children , or entertaining of any kind is not reccomend/welcomed.
We’re just back from our third stay at Vintage Cottage, and it was another great visit. As we said in our previous review: ‘This is a spacious one bedroom, and thanks to Cynthia’s high standards, you will find it in impeccable condition. It’s very nicely furnished, including some nifty beautiful retro-rattan pieces, and extremely well kitted-out – the collection of pots, pans and implements in the kitchen will likely surpass anything you’ve ever found in a rental unit (and if you’re like us, surpass what you have in your kitchen at home!). There’s also lots of comfortable outside furniture too, and of course, like everyone, we loved the outdoor shower (there’s a very good indoor one, too). We really liked the fact that Puako road still seems to be home to many of ordinary Hawai’ins – the school buses roll by early in the morning.’ And of course, the location is terrific, with quick access to Hapuna, Beach 69, and the beach at Mauna Kea (for early risers), as well as nice walks to the tide pools, turtles and sunset viewing opportunities at the end of the several nearby public access paths. We just returned from our stay on the big island and the vintage cottage. This cottage was immaculate and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. For those who like to cook in, the kitchen was supplied with everything, including spices, to cook a great meal. The pictures do not even do this cottage justice. It is even much nicer in person than the web shows. The outdoor shower was fantastic, the bed comfortable and the location perfect for what we were looking for. We experienced some of the best snorkeling across the street at the various beach access points. We saw at times six turtles at a time. Entry and exit from the water can be challenging here so it is best for intermediate-experienced snorkelers. We were so happy we chose to stay in Puako rather than the neighboring resort areas. I would recommend this rental to anybody and we will be back!
This little cottage was the cleanest, best equipped VRBO rental we have ever been in. The cottage is a labor of love for the owners and it shows in all the details. The location in Puako can't be beat. It is perfect for 2 people who like to cook the local fish at home and enjoy the local beaches without the crowds. The water access is directly across the street where we saw multiple turtles and other "wildlife" every time we wandered over. The only drawback is that there was quite a bit of traffic noise, even though the cottage is on a dead end street with no business and no condos. But, there was no traffic at night and it was wonderfully quiet. We have stayed at many VRBO places and this is one we would definitely return to.
Vintage Beach Cottage is kept immaculately clean and in pristine condition by the hard-working owners, John and Cynthia, who live next door. Many guests, at check-in have said 'it is even better then the photos'. The photos just do not do justice to the welcoming, Hawaiiana home. We, who live in Puako, are blessed with sunshine, abundant sealife, including turtles, manta rays, fishes, monk seals and in winter months, the magnficent humpback whales.
