Our family has owned this house for nearly 20 years. We love the location on a quiet street just up from the Northstar Golf Course. Our family has been vacationing in Lake Tahoe since the 1940s and we love sharing our home with others interested in enjoying all that the area has to offer.
Dennis Moynahan purchased this house in 1997
The Northstar Resort operates shuttle service for door to door service during much of the year. The shuttles will take you to the golf course, swimming pool, hot tubs, gym, village, or ski hill without having to drive.
My wife and I stayed here while in town for a race at Northstar. We were joined by our four children and a set of in-laws. Kids range from 1-10 years old. This place was perfect. Immaculately kept and well appointed. The space lays out perfectly for what we look for in a vacation rental....tons of sleeping options and a large common space for everyone to hang out in. We will always stay here when we travel to Northstar or the North shore for that matter. I also had the opportunity to meet Dennis, the owner. He's a great guy and followed up after our trip (I gave him my cell phone) to ask specifically how the kids liked it. Good man.
Aside from the house, which was great, we were blown away by the overall service at Northstar. Shuttles were at the edge of our driveway within 10 minutes of our call. Dropped us right in the village. We left our driveway and were at the Gondola in 15 minutes max. This may not be normal....there were 8000 people there for the race, but the shuttles were ridiculously punctual and reliable. We spent Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at the rec center which is beautiful and perfect for kids. 3 pools (1 just for little kids and 1 just for adults) and 2 hot tubs (same setup). Without planning it this way, we actually never left Northstar until departure. We used shuttles the whole time and didn't even get into our car.
This place is a steal. Highly recommended for families with kids. Would also be a good setup for 3 separate couples there for a ski trip. Has all the amenities. Phone, wi-fi, plasma, cable, dvd, well appointed kitchen (we cocked 2 nights), washer dryer. Highly recommended.
This was the perfect cabin for two families with four very young (and noisy!) children. This place is very spacious and has a great layout. The great room has lots of seating and plenty of space for play. There is a wood burning stove with a great hearth design that kept our young kids a good distance away from the fire. My husband had a ton of computer work and conference calls that he had to do from the cabin. The high-speed wireless was great. His T-mobile cell had no signal, but Verizon was perfect, as was the land line. Pretty much all our kids cry at some point in the night, but the bedrooms are very private and we all got good rest. There are several good decks for taking in the scenery and watching kids play below. The owner was very professional and responsive via phone and email.
We already knew that Northstar was a great place to visit. But, the shuttle system was even faster than in "the good ole days" and the snowplows cleared the roads (and driveway) with no problem on the night that it dumped 10 inches. I was hoping to use the excuse that we were snowed-in to stay and extra night, but no such luck! Our 2-wheel drive car had no problem coming and going with no chains needed. Overall, we had a great stay at "Blarney Stone" and will definitely be back!
This house was all you could ask for in a vacation home. From the well equipped kitchen, to the wood burning stove and big screen TV. The large dining area, the game table, three large bedrooms plus a very nice smaller fourth bedroom. The garage kept the snow off the car, and the best shuttle system I have encountered. You are picked up and dropped off at the end of the driveway.
This is a great place with plenty of room. The photos do not show how good it really is.The owners provide plenty of extra supplies including surplus wood for the cozy fire. The free shuttle bus was very convenient and provided easy access to Northstar Ski Resort. Our family loved it and will definitely take more family and friends back with us!
This was a perfect home away from home for 2 families and a couple of friends. We had a wonderful stay. The home was well equipped with
everything you would need. Clean and spacious! There were many personal
touches in the home like the decorations and bedding and furniture -all very nice! We especially loved the large living room/dining room/game table/kitchen area. All of us could be together enjoying the same activities or we could spread out. The Northstar shuttle service is quick and convenient. The home is very convenient and close to shopping and grocery stores in either Truckee or
Kings Beach area. This homeowner is very pleasant to work with. We hope to stay again someday. Two businesses we enjoyed were Porter's Subs (yummy hot pastrami sandwich) in Truckee in Safeway shopping center and Tahoe Dave's in old Truckee town We rented our ski/snowboard equipment - staff were fun and helpful!)
Our home is adjacent to the Northstar hiking trail system and just above the Martis Valley scenic wildlife preserve. You can drive to Lake Tahoe in just about 10 minutes and be in downtown Truckee in 10 minutes as well.
