About Property Managers: Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways)
Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.
In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he spent the additional money required for the personalized South Carolina license plate 'KIAWAH' (which we still own today).
In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.
In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape (3563) and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah Property Owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.
Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will!!

This was our second stay at the Beach Cottage. It is very convenient to the beach. The condo is well-equipped for whatever you require during your stay. It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The owners are extremely nice and excellent communicators.
We will be back.
Totally awesome from the minute you walk in the door. Fresh flowers on the table, very clean and well decorated. Many items are provided for you which makes packing so much easier, and assistance with securing umbrellas, chairs, and bikes is extremely helpful. Also, you do not have to stop somewhere and check in. You have the car pass and can drive directly to the unit. I love the fact that it is SO close to the beach, and this particular beach crossing has a hose for your bikes!
Jeanette and Shawn always respond quickly to questions or needs. Our air conditioning went out, but they had it fixed within a few hours.
This was our third time at this particular unit, and we will continue to rent from Shawn and Jeanette because they truly care about you enjoying your stay and want their places to be above and beyond!!
The Beach Cottage was one of the nicest villas that we've ever rented. It is very nicely decorated and appointed with furnishings that many other places don't provide such as beach towels, kitchen supplies (including plastic wrap, baggies, twist ties, calculator, pens). The comfort level is a 10. The on-line listing accurately portrays and describes the villa. The villa was spotless and well-maintained. Jeanette promptly brought over requested supplemental supplies. The villa is perfect quiet get-away for a couple. We choose to eat in the first night so we could relax and enjoy the view of the trees and lagoon from the screened-in-porch. There are excellent local restaurants within 25 minutes, i.e., Chez Fish, Fat Hen, Wild Olive. The beach is fantastic--wide and open during low tide and not crowded while we were there (before Memorial Day weekend) and only minutes away via boardwalk. I added many steps to my FitBit count walking the beach and trails. The only items we missed having were a ceiling fan in the bedroom and a sprayer in the kitchen sink, however, neither is a deterrent to staying there again.
This was a return visit and we found Kiawah every bit as awesome as our previous visit, with so much to do and see. We enjoyed riding our bikes on the beach and relaxing in our condo. Shawn and Jeanette have done a wonderful job.
Our first visit to Kiawah was 19 years ago. It was approx. 4 years after that when we met Shawn and Jeanette and had the opportunity to see The Tree Tops and knew immediately that our future bookings at Kiawah would be through them. Shawn and Jeanette are not just owners/managers, but they are very talented in remodeling, putting in high class touches, and taking care of the vacationing needs of their renters. The quality of their furnishings, dishes, linens, and personal touches to provide renters with beach towels, beach bag, frozen mugs in the freezer, washer/dryer with detergent and dryer anti static towels, speaks to their need to provide renters a comfortable, homey, and well furnished villa to make your visit one you'll not forget. Since we started renting with Shawn and Jeanette, we haven't chosen to rent from anyone else. Not only do they provide outstanding/excellent provisions, but they are also just phone call away from any questions or concerns. They have and will/and have responded quickly to make sure your stay is a memorable one. We have been in five of their villas, and spent approx. twenty-plus weeks in total renting from them. We are already planning two weeks for next year, and hopefully four for the following summer. Very clean, great quality furnishings throughout, and personal details for a well thought out and inviting atmosphere is why we keep going back. As you can probably tell, we can say enough about how much we appreciate staying at villas provided by Shawn and Jeanette to enjoy our favorite vacation spot: Kiawah Island. By the way, the enclosed porch at the Beach Cottage is awesome! We saw several deer, birds, and even alligators. Just the best!
Very clean and comfortable-even smelled good when we first walked in. Loved the porch
and so glad we had a washer/dryer. Beach is very close - a five minute walk. Would definitely stay here again.
