About Property Managers: Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways)
Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.
In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he spent the additional money required for the personalized South Carolina license plate 'KIAWAH' (which we still own today).
In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.
In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape (3563) and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah Property Owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.
Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will!!

The Beach Cottage couldn't have been any more perfect for our honeymoon. The villa was beautiful and clean. When we first walked through the door we were greeted with a lovely, cozy scent that made it feel so personal. It wasn't just another condo. It felt like it was perfectly set up for us.
The villa kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. The utensils, pots and pans, dishes, etc. were top quality. Everything was neat and tidy and easy to find. In fact, the whole villa was stocked with all we needed. There was laundry detergent packs, soaps, toilet tissue, shampoo, towels and wash cloths. That was very convenient. Shawn and Jeanette had instructions throughout out the villa that answered any questions we had.
The bed was certainly luxurious. It was like sleeping on clouds! The pillows were comfy too and the bedding was superb. We were very impressed. I received emails from Jeanette with suggestions and recommendations for sights to see and restaurants to visit. There is a large information binder as well with lots of information on Kiawah as well as Charleston. We visited some of the restaurants mentioned. Our favorite meal though was at the Lowcountry Bistro in Charleston.
The whole trip was like a dream. It was more than we could have imagined. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. It was huge and wide even at high tide. The beach was literally a two minute walk. The whole island is gorgeous and fun to ride bikes around to see up close. You will not regret visting Kiawah and you'll love The Beach Cottage.
This was my first time to rent a condo on Kiawah and my experience was extremely impressive. The owners were excellent to work with and made the check-in experience very easy, especially if you arrive late in the evening. The accommodations were exactly as pictured on the website and extremely clean. The beach is a very short distance and the view of the lagoon from the screened porch was idyllic....I would definitely recommend and will return to the Beach Cottage.
This was our second stay at the Beach Cottage. It is very convenient to the beach. The condo is well-equipped for whatever you require during your stay. It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The owners are extremely nice and excellent communicators.
We will be back.
Totally awesome from the minute you walk in the door. Fresh flowers on the table, very clean and well decorated. Many items are provided for you which makes packing so much easier, and assistance with securing umbrellas, chairs, and bikes is extremely helpful. Also, you do not have to stop somewhere and check in. You have the car pass and can drive directly to the unit. I love the fact that it is SO close to the beach, and this particular beach crossing has a hose for your bikes!
Jeanette and Shawn always respond quickly to questions or needs. Our air conditioning went out, but they had it fixed within a few hours.
This was our third time at this particular unit, and we will continue to rent from Shawn and Jeanette because they truly care about you enjoying your stay and want their places to be above and beyond!!
The Beach Cottage was one of the nicest villas that we've ever rented. It is very nicely decorated and appointed with furnishings that many other places don't provide such as beach towels, kitchen supplies (including plastic wrap, baggies, twist ties, calculator, pens). The comfort level is a 10. The on-line listing accurately portrays and describes the villa. The villa was spotless and well-maintained. Jeanette promptly brought over requested supplemental supplies. The villa is perfect quiet get-away for a couple. We choose to eat in the first night so we could relax and enjoy the view of the trees and lagoon from the screened-in-porch. There are excellent local restaurants within 25 minutes, i.e., Chez Fish, Fat Hen, Wild Olive. The beach is fantastic--wide and open during low tide and not crowded while we were there (before Memorial Day weekend) and only minutes away via boardwalk. I added many steps to my FitBit count walking the beach and trails. The only items we missed having were a ceiling fan in the bedroom and a sprayer in the kitchen sink, however, neither is a deterrent to staying there again.
This was a return visit and we found Kiawah every bit as awesome as our previous visit, with so much to do and see. We enjoyed riding our bikes on the beach and relaxing in our condo. Shawn and Jeanette have done a wonderful job.
