About Kathy

I love to go to Clayton, mostly for hiking in the woods, and to discover the many hidden waterfalls, or enjoying the many things to do at the Gorge........ Just being in the area is so relaxing. And of course the air always feels fresher than in the city !!

Kathy purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Kathy chose Clayton

I wanted a location I could enjoy on week-ends without traveling too far; 1.5 hours from Athens, and 2 from Atlanta.

I saw the view from the deck and it 'sold' me! We face northeast to the South Carolina side, which is green and quiet.

What makes this cabin unique

Sounds like an ad, but the mountain air is so fresh and clean ! I like quiet time on the porch swing, or playing solitaire or scrabble on the deck. You can hear yourself think, away from traffic and noise ! It's a wonderful retreat.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A great get-away cabin. We left MyMountainTop feeling relaxed and refreshed. The only problem with our second visit was that it was too short!!

Cozy cabin!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing time we had! We arrived on Oct 22nd and departed Oct 26th, 2016. Kathy's cabin was quaint, quiet, cozy and had amazing sunrises. The color of the sky was every changing each morning. We had a relaxing time playing scrabble, eating and enjoying a few cocktails by the fireplace. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather. Our recommendations of must sees are Anna Ruby Falls, Toccoa Falls, Black Rock Mtn, Lake Burton and the town of Helen. Thank you Kathy for your accommodations and hospitality!

Beautiful views from the "Mountain Top"!

  • 5 of 5

After a shaky start with things beyond the owner's control (water line break on the mountain and cable service out) we were able to enjoy our time at the Mountain Top home. The owner was very helpful and accessible by phone to help work out these two issues quickly. The home has a wonderful porch with beautiful views of the mountains. Plenty of room inside for 5-6 people comfortably. We only used the bottom floor bedroom for our visit. The interior was nice and spacious. This was our first time staying at a place up on a mountain and it was nice being surrounded by trees and enjoying the breezes especially from the porch swing. We took day trips and it was nice to be able to return "home" at the end of each day. To future renters...follow the owner's directions to the house and you will find it with no problems!

Owner's Response: Thank you Dave and Rebecca for visiting with us. A mountain experience in a cabin is unique and lovely. But bad weather can knock out the tv, and sometimes the waterlines are disrupted, just like home, but I'm glad they were able to get you up and running again quickly. The city doesn't have a good map of the mountain roads, which is why I give explicit directions. GPS can't find it if it isn't on the maps ! Rocking on the porch and enjoying the quiet of mountain life is well worth it ! Come back and visit again. Kathy

Everything You Need In The Mountains

  • 5 of 5

A nice and comfortable place on the mountain. A very nice, large deck facing out to the east so you can watch the sunrise while having a nice cup of coffee. You can watch the birds, butterflies and squirrels moving in and around the trees during the day and listen to the night critters communicate to one another at night. Even a distant coyote chimed in occasionally.

The beds are comfortable and everything you need for a relaxing time is there and ready to go. It's a 10-15 minute drive to the grocery store or nearby restaurants.

The owner was very helpful in answering questions about the area and made recommendations on restaurants and places to visit in the area.

Fantastic View!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was so much more than we had expected. The view from the porch was unforgettable, the cabin was well stocked, and the beds were soooo comfy. What more could you ask for? The trip was for my grandson to do some trout fishing and he was not disappointed. He kept saying he wanted a house just like yours, Ms.Kathy. I am sure we will be back for more adventures in the future! Again let me say thank you for the use of your home.

This is a wonderful place to stay and had a great time up in mountains. The porch is facing the mountains and it's very scenic. The property is very well managed and kept clean, would always go again if planned another vacation.

A perfect getaway and what a view!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a long weekend adventure (and relief from the summer heat at our home base) and found what we were looking for. It was a pleasure to be able to sleep with the windows open at night and listen to the wind in the trees. There is much to do in the NE corner of Georgia and Clayton is perfectly located. There are scenic Georgia State Parks, a railroad and folk life museum at your door strep and easy access to the highest mountain top in the state. The bustle of activity in Helen is a short drive away. The town of Clayton is charming with many restaurants and an active Framers Market as well as local farm stands. I must add it is hard to get the motivation to leave the peace and serenity at this mountain top home but so good to return after venturing out. The home has all you need to relax and enjoy yourself without venturing off the mountain. Best of all is the view from the extensive deck and covered porch. It changes by the hour and never fails to inspire.
