About Ellen Duncan

I grew up in Braintree, MA (just south of Boston). For the first 30 years of my life I had never been to the Vineyard.

When we turned 30, my twin sister and I decided to visit this lovely island for the first time. The moment I stepped off the ferry I was in love. Every winter I booked my vacation for the next summer and would do the count down until I could return.

While I still live in Braintree, I try and spend as much time here as possible. No matter what the season, I love coming down!

Ellen Duncan purchased this house in 2005

Why Ellen Duncan chose Edgartown Area

In 2005 I purchased this home. For me the location was ideal, it is on the bike bath, 1.5 miles to the beach and to the edge of the water in downtown Edgartown (The Atlantic on Edgartown Harbor). It also happened to be very close to one of my FAVORITE restaurants, The Square Rigger (Lobster stuffed with Lobster...YUM!).

If I am not in the mood to bike/walk, I can always catch the bus as the house is on the bus route too.

When I purchased it was circa 1970 so I did some major renovations: new kitchen, 2 new bathrooms, new mudroom, new deck.

This house also had a fireplace! Yeah, what a great way to enjoy the island in the winter.

An easy walk to town

  • 5 of 5

The location can't be beat, especially at the price. Very easy walk to town without the "intown" price. Everything was new and we had everything we needed for a very comfortable vacation. I can't wait for this summer!

Beyond Gracious!

  • 5 of 5

My aunt and uncle own a home on the Vineyard and open it to my mom and stepdad every May for their anniversary. Unfortunately my mom passed away at the end of September so we decided to hold a ceremony for her. Since other family would be joining us, we realized my aunt and uncle's home could not accommodate all of us. My aunt and uncle arrived a couple of days ahead of us to find that their house was covered in black mold and needed to be gutted down to the studs. Everyone was in a panic and fortunately, Ellen was kind enough to open her house to them. After their two night stay, they moved to another property so we could occupy the residence. The home ended up being a saving grace for everyone involved. We really had time to bond as a family despite the circumstances surrounding our visit. We played games, had many libations, reminisced, cooked meals, napped and felt like we were right at home. The house was so cozy considering it rained the entire time so many fires were lit. After I departed, my brother stayed an extra day with his wife and baby and my stepdad also extended his stay on the Vineyard. Ellen was so kind to allow all of the additional unexpected guests and we really can not thank her enough for her hospitality!

Awesome house!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I have been coming to this house for a few years now for a "girls getaway". It's a perfect house! Has everything we need and plenty of beds making the sleeping arrangements easy. Location is perfect. Easy walk to everything. Beach right around the corner. The full kitchen is very convenient so we don't have to eat out for every meal! The washer and dryer is great for light packing and keeping up with the beach clothes and towels. The outdoor shower is awesome. House is clean and tastefully decorated. Outdoor space is great! Owners a great to work with! Can't wait to come back every year!

Wonderful two week stay!

  • 4 of 5

We recently spent a wonderful two weeks at this nicely located house with all the amenities for a relaxing vacation. The house is located a relatively short walking distance from downtown Edgartown. This comes in handy as parking in Edgartown can be a challenge. Several restaurants on the outer edge of Edgartown are even closer. ( We appreciated walking off all those incredible lobster rolls on our walks each night!) The house is comfortably furnished and has a nice deck and outdoor shower. A great value for the price considering the good location and easy access to the great beaches! Enjoy!

We really enjoyed our stay in Edgartown at this sweet cottage. Bedrooms are nicely decorated, everything was clean and pretty, and the house is in a convenient location right outside of Edgartown. Thanks for a great get away!

great house at the right price

  • 5 of 5

This house was everything we anticipated and more. The location was perfect, a quiet spot away from town but within reasonable walking distance. Stop an Shop is close and the house is located on bus line #1. The home was clean and well-maintained. The owner was very friendly and communication was prompt and easy. This is a great value!

Electricity is exceptionally expensive on the Vineyard, please shutoff when you head out for the day or when not needed. Each room does have a celing fan as well.
