About Ellen Duncan
I grew up in Braintree, MA (just south of Boston). For the first 30 years of my life I had never been to the Vineyard. When we turned 30, my twin sister and I decided to visit this lovely island for the first time. The moment I stepped off the ferry I was in love. Every winter I booked my vacation for the next summer and would do the count down until I could return. While I still live in Braintree, I try and spend as much time here as possible. No matter what the season, I love coming down!
Ellen Duncan purchased this House in 2005
Why Ellen Duncan chose Edgartown
In 2005 I purchased this home. For me the location was ideal, it is on the bike bath, 1.5 miles to the beach and to the edge of the water in downtown Edgartown (The Atlantic on Edgartown Harbor). It also happened to be very close to one of my FAVORITE restaurants, The Square Rigger (Lobster stuffed with Lobster...YUM!). If I am not in the mood to bike/walk, I can always catch the bus as the house is on the bus route too. When I purchased it was circa 1970 so I did some major renovations: new kitchen, 2 new bathrooms, new mudroom, new deck. This house also had a fireplace! Yeah, what a great way to enjoy the island in the winter.

An easy walk to town
The location can't be beat, especially at the price. Very easy walk to town without the "intown" price. Everything was new and we had everything we needed for a very comfortable vacation. I can't wait for this summer!
Comfort and convenience
This home was ideal for an early fall wedding stay. We found everything we needed was supplied and the bike path right outside gets you around this end of the island. The weather was spectacular, but even if it wasn't, there's a cozy living room with fireplace and all the other amenities you'd need to ride out a raw day.
Great location and comfortable home
We really enjoyed out stay. The location is very good and right on the bike path. You can easily walk to some restaurants and to a great brewery. If you don't have a bike you can rent one from Edgartown bike rentals which is less than a mile away. Still a lot of traffic in September when we were there and biking is a great option when you want to go into town. The only complaint was the inconvenience of having to wash, dry and fold all the sheets before leaving. We had an early ferry and were told that we couldn't leave the sheets in the dryer , making it challenging to get all that done and not have to wake up at 4 am. Otherwise, the place was great and provided all that we needed for a great stay. I would go back.
We enjoyed our stay!
House had everything we needed and was in a great location!
It was very clean and comfortable
We had a wonderful stay. As cyclists, we appreciated having the bike path and the bus line near by.
My aunt and uncle own a home on the Vineyard and open it to my mom and stepdad every May for their anniversary. Unfortunately my mom passed away at the end of September so we decided to hold a ceremony for her. Since other family would be joining us, we realized my aunt and uncle's home could not accommodate all of us. My aunt and uncle arrived a couple of days ahead of us to find that their house was covered in black mold and needed to be gutted down to the studs. Everyone was in a panic and fortunately, Ellen was kind enough to open her house to them. After their two night stay, they moved to another property so we could occupy the residence. The home ended up being a saving grace for everyone involved. We really had time to bond as a family despite the circumstances surrounding our visit. We played games, had many libations, reminisced, cooked meals, napped and felt like we were right at home. The house was so cozy considering it rained the entire time so many fires were lit. After I departed, my brother stayed an extra day with his wife and baby and my stepdad also extended his stay on the Vineyard. Ellen was so kind to allow all of the additional unexpected guests and we really can not thank her enough for her hospitality!
