Modern home with great vibes!
We had a great time while in Luray, Va staying 2 nights at Breezy Mountain Song. This newly renovated home has everything you need while away from home. Very taistfully decorated with a crisp, clean, modern farmhouse feel. Especially love the staircase and kitchen. The deck is very large with a gas fire pit and jacuzzi with plenty of room and seating for many.
I would give it 5 stars but there was a water fooding issue on the main floor right before we stayed there and we were not told about it. I gave the owners other suggestions to bring it upon to the 5 stars so I highly recommend this home!
Some great features -- but avoid the master bedroom
This property is in an ideal location for hiking in Shenandoah National Park, kayaking on the Shenandoah River and visiting Luray Caverns. The house and yard are private, spacious and quiet (except for the occasional lowing of a cow from the neighboring property, which we found amusing). However my husband and I spent three sleepless nights here. We arrived late on a Monday night to find that the linens on the master bed were filthy, with hair and crumbs abounding. Since there were no clean spare linens I stripped the bed to wash the sheets and found to my horror that they were directly on the mattress -- there was no mattress pad or protector -- and the mattress was not only filthy (including some dead insects) but had sizable red stains and a torn cover. I took pictures of everything and sent them to Shenandoah Rentals and the housekeeper, but since it was so late at night, and my children were asleep in the upstairs bedrooms, my husband and I had no choice but to sit up on the living room couch all night. "Katy" from Shenandoah Rentals e-mailed me the next morning that she was going to contact the owner of the property to request permission to purchase a mattress protector and new linens; I asked that the mattress be vacuumed and pillow protectors be purchased, as well. Katy said that it may make me feel better to know that the large red stains on the mattress were paint, not blood -- small comfort, since (a) that demonstrated that Shenandoah Rentals was aware of the unacceptable condition of the mattress and (b) nothing in the house was painted red. We returned from hiking to find new mattress and pillow protectors and linens from the local Walmart on the bed (I had to wash these sheets, as well, since the washing instructions said "wash before use" but they had not been washed). That night we were able to use the bed but it was like trying to sleep in quicksand: the box spring and mattress sit directly on the floor, not suspended in the bedframe, and the mattress is so worn out that it provides no support. Shenandoah Rentals should advise the owner to replace the master bed and should insist that the housekeeper (for whom a hefty fee is charged to renters) wash all towels and linens, not only those specifically designated by renters as used. If that were done this property would merit 5 stars.
Thanks for your feedback. However, I wanted to point out here that 1) we were absolutely NOT aware of the condition of the mattress, and it is our policy that all mattresses and pillows have protectors on them. Once we were made aware that was not the case (for this bed- all the other mattresses in the house had the proper protection on them), we did everything in our power to remedy that as quickly as possible. When the guest told us about "blood" on the mattress, we were concerned and asked the owner what the story was. The mattress had been brought in from another property, where pink paint had been spilled on the side. 2) All of this is a moot point now, because the day after this guest left, a new mattress was delivered- the owner was concerned enough to replace it right away.
The property and the area were beautiful!!!
Our small wishes would have been that the hot tub be a little cleaner, and more linens (sheets, towels, dish clothes) available. Overall we enjoyed our stay tremendously! The house fit our family and some friends easily. I loved all of the live plants around the house!
Breezy Mountain Song is a beautiful house, with breathtaking views just a short walk away. The house was well-maintained and well-decorated. There was plenty of space for everyone to sit and hang out. We LOVED the kitchen!
There were a few small things that I think could make it even more amazing.
1. There was no trash can in the upstairs bathroom.
2. Sleeping 10 is a stretch. We had 9 there and thankfully we were willing to share beds (of course - we could see from the listing that it would be the case, but just keep in mind when booking)
3. There were a few towels, but not enough for 9 people - had I know that, I would've asked guests to bring their own. There were also no wash cloths.
4. When you arrive, there is a book with information regarding the house - one of the things asks you to either pay $5 per bag or to take the trash to the dump yourself. That wasn't an issue, just something I wish we had been made aware of ahead of time.
Overall, we had an amazing time and would stay there again. With a few changes, it would be easy to guarantee return visits!
