Did you ever sleep in a 'kaakberg'? This farmers house is our vacantion rental and is build like the old hay barns that are typical for our area.
It is a great place to stay for everyone who likes to be in the countryside and at the same time near Amsterdam. When you come home from a city trip you can relax in this quiet, breathtaking environment with all the luxury you wish for. The house has three floors: Ground floor with a hall, sauna room and a bed room for two persons . The first floor is the living with dining and kitchen (and the possibility for two more persons to sleep on sofa beds). The second floor is a bed room for 2 persons and a bathroom. The views are incredible everywhere, but on the second floor you have an open view over the lake.
There is a little beach, over the dike where you can sunbathe or swim in the lake in the summer. This is a very safe, quiet and beautiful place for a honeymoon, a wedding anniversary, for writing, for reading a good book. If you like to be more active: there are lots of opportunities to explore the countryside by foot, bicycle or by car. It is a great place for bird watching and if you like horses you can watch the neighbor training his horses at sunset. We offer a lot of amenities, such as bikes, a laundry room, sauna, outdoor spa and fast Internet at no extra costs.
You can read guest reviews and a special review of the VRBO Bear on the VRBO site.
The house is beautifully located in the countryside at the IJsselmeer dike very near Edam, an old 'cheese’ town. Amsterdam is 25 km away and easy to reach by bus from Edam or by car.
The apartment is suitable for 4 persons, but we have extra room for 2 more. Pets are welcome, but we have some small rules. Children under 5 are free if they sleep in the childrens beds we can provide (one for max. 5 and one for max. 3 years old).
Mostly you will be in contact with me (Saskia), since my husband doesn't like computers at all. I live with my husband Onny in this house already more than 25 years. My husband is director and I am a playwright. The vacation rental is something we do beside this. We love to be in contact with people from all over the world and help them to explore the Netherlands. We love to travel ourselves too, as this picture shows, taken in 2009 in Sedona.
Saskia Huisink-Janse purchased this farmhouse in 1988
We rent a part of our house since 1998, because our daughter flew out to live on her own and our theatre got a beautiful new house in Edam, so we could move the office and atelier. Our private house was suddenly large for the two of us, so we decided to do something more with it to be able to maintain this beautiful place where we live and to share it with other people.
Our house is situated in a beautiful, still quiet area in the Netherlands. It is build like the old hay barns (Kaakberg), typical for our area in North Holland, but with all the comfort you need.
Near Amsterdam and next to the lake. If you like to be in the countryside, but you don't want to miss Amsterdam with its interesting musea, canals and architecture, come and stay here. If you want to find out that the Netherlands is a beautiful country and has a lot more interesting things to offer than marihuana and the red light district, please come to our place and we can tell you all about it.
Danke, danke, danke! Ein traumhaftes Ambiente in wunderschöner Landschaft!
Vielen Dank für die Gastfreundschaft!
Wir kommen bestimmt wieder!
We enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing two weeks in the Country and Lake apartment - and we don't say that lightly since we travel with two small children (twin boys of 2 years old).... The actualy apartment, amentities and surroundings surpassed any expectations we had based on the descriptions on the Internet. The apartment is beautiful, clean, tastfully decorated (including beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers), and the view (typical Dutch) is magnificent. Many of the days we were there, we just stayed "home", with the kids playing in the big garden (including sandbox), and us, adults, enjoying the quiet and the view. Or we hopped over the dyke to play on the beach. Or we rode our bikes along the dyke to the quaint little town Edam. One of the days we went to Amsterdam to visit the zoo (Artis) and this was only a 40-minutes drive.
Saskia and Onny were wonderful hosts and they helped us make the apartment child-friendly (they had two cribs for us available, put up a gate on top of the stairs, and even lent us some toys for the boys!).
We were/are so pleased with our stay at the Country and Lake that we are considering coming back there for next year's vacation!
We were delighted with our stay at the farmhouse 'Kaakberg'....the setting could not be more ideal....immediately across the road is the beach and sea, a lovely farm spreads around in every direction, the village of Edam is an easy bike ride away. Edam is a lovely town with plenty of shopping, good restaurants and bars. We day tripped to places like the Keukenhof gardens and Haarlem but mostly we loved just relaxing in this beautifully equipped and decorated home. The sauna and spa were wonderful bonuses to come home to after a long day of touring....Saskia was a perfect host....friendly and knowledgeable. Two weeks later after staying in a variety of other locations all four of us still thought this was the best stay of our trip......
This journey was perfect. The house is gorgious. Édam is so lovely and We had a good plan to park for free the car in Amsterdam north where We took the free ferry. It was simply magic. We really appreciate this moment of confort, peace and beauty after a difficult year. Everything in the house has been conceived to have a confortable journey. The bedrooms are mervellous, the kitchen is so convenient, and the terrasses have nice point of view on the fields, the sea...
Country & Lake was the ideal place to spend a relaxed week in the countryside. With magical views over the Ijsselmeer and the farmlands and dykes around Edam, this haven is beautifully appointed and maintained with every necessary convenience. What a wonderful place to wake up in the morning! The position is very quiet, with only the gentle sounds of the birds and sheep to disturb your sleep. Walking and reading are natural pursuits here, but there are some good places to eat in nearby Edam, and it is a short bus ride to the centre of Amsterdam if you want to enjoy the bustle and stimulation of the city as well.
Saskia and Onny are brilliant hosts, thoughtful and welcoming, with excellent attention to all the details that make the difference in quality, and also giving guests the space to make their time their own. Their communication was excellent and all the necessary maps, brochures, tourist information and other details are provided, as well as good speed internet.
The space itself is both simple and luxurious. The private spa with sauna, hot tub and space for some yoga is great for unwinding whatever the weather, and the well-appointed kitchen/dining room has everything you need to make self-catering a breeze. The upstairs bedroom is spacious and welcoming with a most comfortable bed, and lovely linen, and of course the spectacular views in all directions! You won't want to close your curtains. The downstairs bedroom, with access to separate bathroom facilities is useful if you need to house a family rather than simply a couple.
I would certainly highly recommend this beautiful, well-maintained property to anyone wanting a quiet time out in the countryside, where they can feel pampered and special.
This is a very special place to retreat for a comfortable, quiet getaway. Just a few km out of Edam on the historical Zuyder Zee dike, it overlooks both Ijsselmeer and the rural fields of sheep and cattle that surround Edam. Onny and Saskia were wonderful hosts, and the quality of the appointments in the property were really top class: a perfect place for a creative retreat or quiet holiday. Just half an hour from Amsterdam, yet completely secluded. Bliss. Highly recommended.
It was our first visit to Holland and were so happy we stayed here. We rode bikes to the nearby villages, spent time across the street at the beach and enjoyed watching the farm animals that are almost in their backyard. My daughter who is 9 loved petting the horse who had just had a foal. They have a cat, Fred who paid us a daily visit:)
The owners were away so their nephew was very helpful when we had questions.
The home was very clean and well decorated. It is three stories so there is plenty of room. The home and surrounding gardens did not disappoint. I honestly have no complaints, it was a wonderful vacation and we really enjoyed our stay here!!
The house is a typical 'Kaakberg' and is situated near Edam,15 miles from Amsterdam in the countrysid, next to the IJsselmeer (lake). The environment is beautiful and unspoiled, a quiet and safe area. Edam is a very charming little town, and there are lots of other old fisherman villages to explore. For museums, theatre and galleries you can go to Amsterdam. In the summer you can swim in the lake or go the the beach right at your doorstep. In the spring the tulip fields are nearby and Amsterdam is worthwhile to visit in all seasons of course. If you like a quiet, safe place where you can relax after day trips or simply stay 'at home' this is the place to be.
