In the summer we are surrounded by a mass of lovely sunflowers which is a spectacular sight. Local markets, fresh produce, fine wines, fabulous restaurants make this area a 'must visit'. Long quite roads for cycling, (for the extremely energetic cyclists check out the routes and kms on the Pays De Duras tourist website which offer routes to take), woods and tails for walking or horse riding, lakes for fishing and rivers for kayaking, petanque, boule, bocce and sun beds for the less energetic there is something for everyone in this unspoilt part of South West France. As an added bonus for 2017 we are now able to offer not only carp fishing in our own lake but also a day/s with an experienced french carp fisherman around 4 of the most stunning lakes in the area boasting carp of up to 15-28 kgs.

About Tina & David Evans
Having lived on the top of the beautiful Exmoor hills for the past 17 years, the damp, wet and mud gradually became too much. So on a mission to find a comfortable climate, sunshine, blue skies, good local produce, gastronomic restaurants and friendly natives we landed in Duras in Februay 2013 and purchased Le Petit Pourquet moving in 4 days before Christmas this year! Mad maybe, but definitely right, we feel at home in this wonderful area. We are not retired and work from home on line but have not regretted our decision to move to France. Yes there may be a few challenges with the language but hey all challenges can be overcome and what an adventure! We would love to share with you.
Tina & David Evans purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Tina & David Evans chose Saint-Sernin
The situation of this property is rural with a scattering of lovely neighbours in the vicinity, which is comfortable for us. The views are spectacular as are the sun rises and sun sets and fabulous cloud formations. The property is well kept the grounds ample, with 5 acres of field for letting off steam, and a large lake stocked with carp for fishing enthusiasts. There are also 2 smaller ponds that feed the lake and have fish in. The gardens have walnut and plum trees and are stocked with plants, herbs etc. There are mature trees, and shaded pergolas for shade in the hot summer months. We also have a swimming pool for those that enjoy a dip!
What makes this Cottage unique
The views from the property are stunning, and changes dramatically with the seasons. In Winter you look out onto vast areas of deep muddy furrows surrounded by clutches of woods and dotted with farms and buildings in the distance, in the Spring the skies stay blue longer, and the sun starts to warm the buds on the trees and the grass starts to turn vibrant green. In the summer the sunflowers that were sown in the furrows in the Spring start to take hold turning the countryside into a ray of golden yellow, the vines are green and the grapes are forming. Autumn the colours are changing again. Our properties are warm, comfortable and well appointed, encouraging an atmosphere of relaxation and pleasure. We are animal lovers and have dogs, goats, donkeys and a pony all very friendly and very relaxing company.

Lovely stay in well equipped gite
The gite was in a lovely rural location; very quiet, which we liked, but close to plenty of places of interest. The welcome from David and Tina was very warm and we enjoyed getting to know their dogs and other animals- the walk one evening with the dogs, goats and donkeys was quite an experience! The gite was well equipped, particularly the kitchen which was a good size for a one bedroom gite. We found the sitting room with dining area very comfortable and the outside seating area looked over the pool and countryside. A beautiful part of France!
We very much enjoyed our stay in the Duras area......the house is very well equipped and most comfortable.
The only hiccup was that you were not there when we arrived ...but the weather was fine so we enjoyed a walk.
Had a lovely stay at the the Prunerie. Tina and David were very welcoming and helpful, and we hope to be back one day
We are so lucky that we have met so many lovely and interesting people that come to stay with us.
Lovely gite with all the facilities you could want. Tina and David were very welcoming and helpful hosts.
We had great food in Duras which is not far. Unfortunately didn't get time to walk around the nearby lake - will plan that for our next trip
Thank you for your Review, we very much enjoyed having you to stay, and look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
Lovely place, lovely people
We enjoyed our stay in La Prunerie, thanks to our guests Tina & David who take of their time to take us to visit nice places and participate to village picnics. We met so many nice people locally, it will be absolutely necessary to come again ! Even the only parrot of the region came to settle ! The place to be !
It was wonderful to have such great guest and to make new friends with such lovely French people. David and I thoroughly enjoyed their stay and hope to see them visit us again in the future.
It is a 20 minute walk through vineyards to the small village of St. Sernin, in South West France, which has a Mairie, tourist information, public tennis courts, a bar-tabac and grocery store and a Pizzeria-restaurant. The nearest supermarket is 6 kms away in Duras, which is a delightful small town with a chateau and a market every Monday morning. Ste Foy le Grande on the River Dordogne is a 15 minute drive; a bustling market on Saturday mornings and a large Leclerc supermarket. Bergerac and St Emilion are a half hour drive; Bordeaux a 70 minute drive [or by train from Ste Foy]. Arcachon and neighbouring beautiful beaches, pine forests and sand dunes along the Atlantic coast is a 2 hour drive from us; there is well organized canoeing on the Dordogne and the Dropt. And for golfers there are several golf clubs, including Le Vigiers, 10 km from us. Throughout the summer there are local night markets held in neighbouring villages, which must be experienced, for great fun atmosphere and local specialties and entertainment. For keen cyclists check out the 'randonnes' on this link for cyclists:http://translate.google.com/translate?client=tmpg&hl=en&langpair=fr|en&u=http%3A//www.paysdeduras.com/ We think that the location of the Gite, in beautiful unspoilt countryside but close to all amenities and tourist attractions, offers a wide choice of holidaying pursuits
