About Sue W. Brown

We've lived here happily for 30 years. After our children left for college, we decided to offer our space to nice people who want to vacation in Kailua to enjoy themselves and life. It'ts fun at the Mokes (mountains) off Lanikai Beach, a 5 min. drive from Kailua Beach. Kailua beach is three blocks from our home. Kayak rentals and Island Snow shaved ice is 2.5 blocks from our home on the way to the beach.

Sue W. Brown purchased this studio in 2000

Why Sue W. Brown chose Kailua

This is a convenient location, near the beach, tennis courts, public olympic-size pool, shops, schools, restaurants, basketball courts....close to just about everything. You can cruise at the beach, swim, sunbathe, look for sea turtles.... or walk around Kawainui Marsh, a nature preserve and look for fresh water turtles and native birds....We are active with art & dance classes, so we aren't home too much. But since we are both born and raised in Hawaii, we would be happy to help travelers with any information they need.

What makes this studio unique

This is a great location halfway between the beach and Kailua town for restaurants and shopping. You can just cruise and walk around Kailua if you wish. We're just 3 blocks from Starbucks, Cold Stone Creamery, Fat Boy's (reasonable gourmet, local fast food, Maui Tacos, Teddy's Burgers, and the supermarket. If you wanted to be relaxed and not drive, we are 1/2 block to theBus, where for $2.50 you may catch theBus anywhere, to downtown Honolulu to visit the State capitol, etc, to SeaLife Park and it's giant sea tank of fishes and sharks, to the big waves on the North Shore, or even to Waikiki to avoid having to find parking there. You're even free to borrow our bikes, they're old but they'll get you around Kailua. Life is short, be mellow, be happy and our home is a great launching ground for that.

Met our needs

  • 4 of 5

Property is private, close to the beach, close to town, if you stay in Kailua you don't need a rental car. We used the bicycles which were fine. The room is cozy and clean, but don't expect new and shiny. There kitchenette is well stocked for two people. Everything you need is pretty much provided. The only thing I would recommend is some new bed pillows. The pillows provided were clean but well loved and need replacing. But overall is met our needs and is a real deal for the area.

Great Location, Rental is clean and simple

  • 5 of 5

This was my first trip to Oahu and the Orchid Studio was one of 2 homeaway properties I rented during my stay and it was definitely my favorite! I was very happy with the room and amenities, they were exactly as advertized and provided everything I needed.

Far and away, the best part of the Orchid Studio is the property's close proximity to Kailua Beach Park. I really enjoyed being able to ride one of the bikes included with the rental a half mile to the beach and didn't really need my car at all during my stay, able to bike to some of the hikes I really enjoyed, like the Pillbox hike near the country club.

The setting for the property is perfect for those looking to take advantage of the outdoor activities and the scenic beauty of Kaliua. I would definitely consider staying again! Property management does a great job of clearly laying out the rules and the steps you need to take to get your deposit returned. Overall a great experience!

Perfect for a getaway, definitely worth every penny !

  • 4 of 5

It was exactly as described & came with a little more than expected. The room was small, but perfect size for me. I went for a week getaway for my birthday & also in hopes my brother (who's stationed in Kailua) would have his baby. So I didn't spend much time in the room. However I loved the fact they had the room stocked with all the basic essentials that are sometimes forgotten. (In my case, it was the sun block 😂򐠩 . The washer & dryer use also came in handy as well. The condo is in a great location, I didn't rent a car and everything was in walking distance (the beaches, food places, shopping center, etc.). The only downfall was being able to hear the couple staying in the room next door. But since I wasn't in the room much, it wasn't a huge deal. Overall my stay was wonderful and I would definitely book again !

Great location, helpful and professional owners

  • 4 of 5

The location of this property is perfect. You can walk to town or the beach within a few blocks. The owners were great to work with and very responsive. Had no issues, everything functioned and the owners gave great details on parking, bike usage, amenity usage, etc. The room is very small, enough room to walk around the bed and that's basically it, and you can hear the neighboring rooms very, very well. But we didn't spend that much time in the room anyways. Well provided and stocked amenities. Having AC was a life saver. Overall a very nice, relaxing stay.

This place was just as advertised. No complaints. You can hear the neighbors beside you but it didn't bother me. Would stay here again.

Could be better, overall.

  • 3 of 5

Communication was limited before arrival, I had to send a reminder to the owner requesting check-in information (including property address), and reminding owner of the arrival. On arrival, the keys were not available as indicated in the written instructions, and the a call was needed to be made to the property manager, who initially did not know of my sister's arrival.

The apartment was not as pictured, and not within easy walking distance to the beach, but inexpensive compared to other rentals in the area (a positive).

There was an issues with the power, as indicated in the instructions, so not all appliances in the apt could be run at the same time.

The security deposit refund took a long time to be made because the owner was on vacation. Received after multiple emails to the owner, over a month after the rental.
