Why Kathleen and Charles Willis chose Ohio

We love this location because it has the best of both worlds. It is very private and quiet. Off the main road but if you need groceries, gas, or want to eat out, Laurelville is only 3 miles away.

All the state park attractions are only about 10 minutes away.

Wonderful Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

Spent the weekend here on motorcycle trip - wonderful to walk into a well maintained, air conditioned, place with a hot tub to melt off the miles! Certainly didn't expect the extras provided ... shaving cream, razors, spices, etc. and then some! The Wolfgang Puck cookware was awesome! Definitely a location to come back to. While the access road and driveway were something to be cautious with, drive was manageable (if 3 girls with 1100cc & 1300cc bikes can manage it, you can too!) A pleasure to meet Kathleen - and as others have said extremely helpful and kind!

Beautiful Cabin with no hot tub : (

  • 3 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our 2nd anniversary trip. We were NOT able to get into the hot tub at all during our stay... The owner called me on the day of arrival to tell me it would be fixed the next day. Someone arrived at our cabin to replace the hot tub water but put no chemicals in it to treat the water. We ended up buying a Cl/Br and pH test kit to test the water. The owner assured us the water was "ok to get in just cloudy because of metals in the water". The pH tested at 8.5 and there appeared to be almost or no Bromine at all in the hot tub. (There was no land line and no signal so we had to go into town every time we wanted to communicate with her) We talked to her the next day(our last night) and she said she lived to far away to come and some guy would be there later whenever he got off work. He never showed up and we never had any further communication from the owner. So we spend half the time there waiting for people to show up and fix the hot tub. The owner never showed up to ensure it was fixed or even offer us any sort of discount or some form of compensation. There was a lot of bad communication coupled with having workers showing up and disturbing our privacy, yet not fixing our issue, during or stay. Would NOT recommend for anyone actually looking for a relaxing dip in the hot tub especially for anyone with sensitive skin.

The cabin itself and the location of the property were absolutely beautiful. The owner was initially very good with communicating and answering my questions before I rented. The water inside the house was fine and paper towels toilet paper etc. were stocked. The house was very clean and property well maintained. This is a fantastic rental for anyone who has their own hot tub and doesn't mind potentially not having it to use during their stay. We do NOT have a hot tub at home and were looking forward to relaxing and soaking in it and it was a key selling point on me renting this cabin. Would loved to have given this 5 starts but the hot tub problems and the owner's inability to correct the problem tarnished what could easily be a gem of a cabin in the hocking hills area.

Owner's Response: Amenities: Occasionally appliances, hot tub, fireplaces, etc… can malfunction. We will service and restore these amenities as quickly as we can, but will not make any rental concession for time without these items. Likewise, loss of electricity, loss of water, AND/OR any “Acts of God” that are outside of our control will not result in a a refund of any monies paid.. Due to cleaning and servicing, the hot tub is sometimes not up to full temperature at the time of check in and may need several hours to heat,Please abide by the tub rules. This is exactly the policy that was sent to you TWICE when you booked. I advise all people out there no matter where you rent, READ THE POLICIES. I am sorry you weren't happy with the hot tub situation, and yes, at times I am on a vacation of my own when someone is staying at the cabin that is why I have a maintenance man to take care of any issues. I said I was sending "my guy" not "some guy". He actually showed up the day of your arrival to drain the hot tub. The water was clean, you saw it was new water I'm not quite sure why you changed your mind as I was told you said you were ok with it. I gave you his name as well so you would know who is showing up. I wasn't aware we were having bad communication as I answered every phone call from you. I didn't make a follow up call as I didn't think a call was needed. I was communicating with my maintenance man and he had told me all was well, also there is not good phone service in any part of Hocking Hills so I wouldn't have been able to talk to you unless you were in town at the time. You were lucky town was only 3 miles away to make a call. Most places in the Hills people have to drive 20 minutes or so. I mentioned each time I talked to you as well, that you did NOT have to stick around to let anyone in or oversee the work that was being done. I would never expect that of any guest. My maintenance man takes care of many cabins in the Hocking Hills area and has cabins of his own so I do trust him. As far as anyone having sensitive skin, I wouldn't be getting in anyone's hot tub if that is a big concern. I'm sure some owners use chlorine and that can irritate terribly. We do feel bad that you had a bad experience but any issues as big as this one can take a lot of time to correct. Hot tubs can be very fickle and some products can take 24 hours to take effect. We do the best we can

Quiet Birthday Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked this cabin for a 6 night stay over the week of our birthdays. It really was just as advertised! We lounged in the hot tub, watched all the movies we brought, read books, and generally had a relaxing "get away from it all" vacation. Not having phone service wasn't ever an issue, I ended up getting a bar or two at the end of the driveway if ever we needed it. We hiked several of the nearby trails, Cantwell Cliffs, Old Man's Cave, and The Rockhouse. The hot tub was much needed after all of the steps at Cantwell Cliffs. All of the amenities were great! I think we used just about every appliance to make our week's worth of food, and thankfully since we forgot a few things there were several local places in Laurelville to get what we missed.

Thank you for a lovely stay. We will be back to hike the trails we didn't get to and to see that huge flock of wild turkeys again. It was a pleasure.

Beautiful, peaceful & relaxing!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I go on a "no kids" trip around our wedding anniversary every year. This year was our 11th wedding anniversary and I must say that this cabin was exactly as described, and then some. Thank you so very much for all of the wonderful amenities that you add. It is a very nice special touch that didn't go unnoticed. Kathleen is an amazing person to deal with and was extremely helpful when needed. The hot tub is wonderful and so relaxing to sit in and listen to nature and relax. The seclusion was absolutely perfect. We had no issues going up the driveway in our 4 cylinder Fusion. The town that is nearby is adorable. Thank you for the recommendations, as we definitely visited all of them. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful cabin with us! It was a fabulous trip and hope to return again!

Very remote!

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is clean and beautiful, the couches and bed are very comfortable. But we did have a few issues. The water is awful, definitely bring bottled water. We got gallons of water in town to use for coffee, ice cubes, brushing teeth and drinking. The gravel driveway is steep and bumpy, the skid light on our front-wheel drive SUV came on while going up the hill; it seems they could try to smooth it out a bit. The power flickered several times as soon as we got there due to rain, so it seems likely that the power could go out in bad weather. We only found one flashlight, so bring more just in case. Website says there’s an iPod docking station, but only works with iPhone 4, not 5 or 6 w/o adapter. The description on this site says all you need to bring is food, but the fine print says they provide a “starting supply” of trash bags, paper towels and toilet paper, so if you’re staying more than a few days, bring a supply of these items. Also, there was no ketchup or mustard, even though the website stated that they'd be provided. Bring foil to put on grill (we put it on old, blackened cookie sheet too). We’ve stayed in cabins in Hocking Hills that were better stocked with such basics. This cabin is very remote, no cell service, no land line. We'll probably stay a little closer to town next time. It's about 25 minutes from Old Man's Cave and Logan. We heard a bear outside our first night there and confirmed in town that there had been a bear sighting, though it’s not normal. Once we got past our fear of the bear the first night, got bottled water and other basic supplies, we relaxed and enjoyed the peaceful getaway.

Owner's Response: WOW! This response is loaded and a perfect case of how 2 sets of people have different ideas of what is standard and what is excess. Let's get started and I'll just go down the list. There is no way anyone can possibly think the water is nasty. We have done everything possible there is to do to make our water very nice. We literally just spent $1300 on a whole house filtration system so NO MORE ROTTEN EGG SMELL. I'm sure this well water is more pure to drink than any bottled water you buy in the store which by the way, there are many articles out there that claim your bottled water is just tap water with many nasty things in it. Yes, we agree the driveway is a little rough, but we still get up it fine in a 4 cylinder civic. Just got to give it some gas. With all the rain we have had, We can't really get anything done on the driveway until it dries up. Let's all keep in mind that the day you arrived, there was a really bad storm that moved through. Everyone is lucky our cabin is only 3 miles from town so the power doesn't stay out long. Yes... 3 miles. If you want to get any closer to town, you will have to be in it. Logan is 25 miles away but Old Mans Cave is 12 miles. We've clocked it so we know what to tell our guests. I do apologize for not having ketchup and mustard in the fridge. The guests right before you cleaned our fridge out. We had all kinds of stuff in there. I have restocked since. Pots and pans are less than 1 year old. I can't control how people abuse these items and I certainly can't go out and buy new ones after each guest. So aluminum foil is a good idea.If anyone out there thinks that 3 trash cans and 2 trash bags for a 4 day stay is not enough, then yes, you need to bring trash bags.We provide 1 full roll of paper towels. If that is not enough for a 4 day stay....then yes, you need to bring more. We have 4 dish towels out as well and many, many rags in the cabinet. I suppose some people are just more excessive than others. We provide above and beyond what a lot of places do. We can only do so much so we can keep our costs down . We have been in business for 10 years and haven't raised our rates yet. We list most everything under our amenities tab on our website. There is no "fine print". Some cabins will not provide ANYTHING. They even make you bring your own sheets, towels, soap, TP... the list goes on. I had no idea about the bear. We do not live in the area. I was told there are no bears but that was about a year ago. Whew

Pretty little cabin in nice seclusion...

  • 4 of 5

The woods floors are beautiful. We have a memory foam bed at home and were happy to have one to sleep on in this cabin. The hot tub was very relaxing, in fact don't stand up too fast after being in it for a while. The pull out sofa bed was not comfortable to sleep on. This is still a really great cabin for a couple though. It looks like they are making two additional cabins. One site can be seen from the back porch through the trees.

Owner's Response: We are thankful for your review. We always like to know the thoughts of our guests so we can make any changes if need be. We personally agree that the pull out bed is not the most comfortable. This is the second mattress we have bought. IDK if there is a comfortable one out there but we try. Keep in mind that we do advertise this as a romantic cabin for 2. We just added the sleeper sofa in case anyone might bring small children. To which I don't think children care what they are sleeping on. To be honest, we have 2 couches in our living room and to just sleep on them is way more comfortable. Yes we have lots of sheets in the drawers! There are no other cabins being built anywhere near us on our road. Next door they are clearing the land and are building a house to live in. Still there is a lot of privacy on our property.
