We live in North Dakota and love vacationing in North Carolina. This was our third vacation on the North Carolina coast and our second time in the Outer Banks. This house was our favorite. We would definitely stay there again. I was a little concerned that it wasn't ocean front but it is so close to public access that it wasn't an issue at all. The fact that the house is privately owned makes an amazing difference. The kitchen has everything you need. The fact that we didn't have to worry about bringing essentials such as paper products, garbage bags, laundry soap, etc. was so wonderful. The house was clean and well maintained.
The week we spent there with our grown and almost grown children gave us memories that we will have for a lifetime. We spent the entire week doing nothing but hanging out at the beach and lounging around the pool. Thank you Ann & Larry for sharing your wonderful home with us!
From the time we booked Pelican's Perch with the wonderful owners, we were so pleased. They were honest, helpful and gave us all information on time and accurately. The house was far better than even the pictures showed - roomy, close to the beach, CLEAN, and full of amenities. We have stayed at the Outer Banks a few times now, and this house was by far our favorite.
The pool is small, but clean and perfect for our family of 4 adults and two kids. Hot tub was great as well. The decks provided a great view of the ocean, and comfortable swings. So many tvs allowed for the kids to watch their own thing while the adults watched something else.
We look forward to returning to Pelican's Perch soon!
This was our first time renting a house in the OBX. We had searched several places online and narrowed it down to this one. We chose Pelicans Perch because of the location (very short walk to the beach), pool, and 2 queen bedrooms with full bathrooms attached. We (2 adults, 1 child) were going with another family (2 adults, 2 children) and to have our bathrooms attached to both master suites was a big plus. Every bedroom has an updated flat screen TV, as well as the living room. Pelicans Perch has a beautiful interior, VERY clean! Great layout. The reviews before ours are spot on, we agree with it all. We used the pool a lot, it was great entertainment for the kids when we didn't feel like venturing off to the beach, and while we were cooking dinner.
Coming from Southern, MD we had about a 5 hour drive ahead of us. We left at 6am, got stuck in traffic 30 minutes from the OBX and ended up in stop/go traffic for 1.5 hours, landing us on the island around 12:30pm vs. our anticipated time of 11am. Traffic was not fun, but it was worth it. Next time we go, we will leave around 4am to beat the traffic, or much later in the evening. It seemed like everyone had the same idea, to get there super early and hopefully beat the traffic. It may or may not be avoidable though. On our last day, we left at 9am and made better timing home somehow. We wondered if we should have left earlier, but it actually worked out better leaving later (although I'm sure it fluctuates). I am sure most visitors of the OBX are aware of the traffic patterns but we thought we would throw this out there for any newcomers like ourselves looking for travel experience :). It definitely backs up as you get closer to the island but once you are there it frees up! Also - if you plan on cooking at the house a lot - go grocery shopping on Sunday morning. Grocery stores on Saturday evening were insanely busy - everyone has the same idea to stock up on groceries the day they get there. Overall we had a great stay and learned a lot along the way (like when to grocery shop, when to come /go). The island is easy to navigate, and the people are so friendly!
Ann and Larry were very helpful and responsive with all of our questions and it was a very smooth stay/transaction to rent. We were very pleased with our experience and highly recommend to others looking to rent a house in the OBX. We can't wait to go back!
This is a great OBX house! Our family recently spent a week here and found it to be a wonderful, kid-friendly home. We tend to vacation in OBX about every two years, and thought that this was one of the best we've stayed in. Ann and Larry (owners) were very helpful and responded to emails/phone calls quickly and courteously. The home was close to the ocean (about 2 minute walk). The area of the beach near the house was not crowded at all, very pleasant. The house is located right at 3 MP, so it was a very good central location for us (15 mins north to Duck, or 15 mins south to the Dunes). What makes this house stand out beyond the standard rental properties that we typically use were all of the "little things" that come with an owner-occupied house as opposed to one strictly rented out by the big companies. For example, the kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, pots/pans, appliances, and there were beach umbrellas, beach toys, beach cart, etc. The only negative we encountered was the gas grill outside - bad burners and rusty grates - that made grilling local seafood really difficult. Overall, the house was very clean and well kept, and the pool was great in the afternoon. For the value, you can't go wrong. On our next visit to OBX we will definitely consider booking here again!
If you are looking for a relaxing vacation this is it! The house was big, beautiful and very comfortable. The walk to the beach well you blink and you are there. Our daughter really enjoyed spending part of each day in the pool. Lots of things to do on the Outer Banks and the house is convenient to everything. Owners of the house are very nice and accommodating. We just had a truly awesome vacation, made a lot of great memories and are looking forward to visiting again.
