About Mary and Ray Spangler

Ray and I are retired teachers and have owned the property since the summer of 92. There are two previous owners. The first built a 3 bedroom 1 bath in the early 60s; the second added a den and bedroom and bath as well as a deck and screened in sun room in the 80s We started renting in 93 and did an addition to the property in 2003 adding a glassed in sunroom and a 1/2 bath downstairs and an upper story with full bath, large bedroom with 2 beds and mini kitchen: fridge, sink and microwave.

Mary and Ray Spangler purchased this house in 1992

Why Mary and Ray Spangler chose Sturgeon Bay

I walked down the main hallway and saw the beach and fell in love.

What makes this house unique

The house has 120 ft of sand beach, is quiet and only 6 miles from Sturgeon Bay with its shopping and fine restaurants. Pottowatomee and White Fish Dunes State Parks are nearby and very worth a visit as well as are the other towns and parks on the peninsula about 20 minutes North.

Amazing experience!

  • 5 of 5

The beautiful scenery and peaceful setting made for one of our top get-aways in the winter off season. The home is absolutely stunning, right on the beach in a semi secluded nook. Our dogs couldn’t haven’t been happier either. Already looking to plan another stay in the summer. 10/10!!

Very good place and location and great host

  • 4 of 5

The place was huge and there is access to the beach. There is a very nice 3-4 mile private beach to walk. We were three families that went there for thanksgiving with kids sanding from 8 years to 19 years. The place was 2 storied with 5 bedrooms downstairs and upstairs with ton of beds. Kids were all upstairs and adults down. The place is huge and lot of beds and everything needed in the house. Only few suggestions are that the House has too much stuff and there was less place on counter tops of kitchen to put our own stuff. The clutter can be reduced though I can understand it is used by the hosts for their own children etc. The bed sheets and towels were all clean but pretty old and overused. Can have some new stuff there. There were enough plates, cups and silver ware etc. but there were not enough serving spoons.

Overall we had very good experience with Mary and caretaker of the place. They were extremely prompt in their responses and very helpful and friendly. We did not have any problems getting to the place or even living in the place. Whatever questions we had asked in advance were answered within less than half a day. We would totally suggest this place who loves Water, nature and quietness.

Amazing view & plenty of space

  • 4 of 5

Great spot for a relaxed week, that is flexible and able to accommodate a big group (14 for us). We had a great time exploring Door County during the day, and returning for an afternoon at the beach. At night everyone piled onto the benches around the table in the great room for dinner and games while looking out at the lake. Having bikes, beach chairs & toys made it possible for all to be a little more independent. Which meant I could escape for some awesome beach walks. The house and furnishings are a bit rustic, but very functional. Nice to see a place that's well loved & grateful to Mary and Roy for sharing it. Our kids are already asking about return trips.

Gorgeous View and Great walks!!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at Mary's Beach House! We even got to bring our Australian Shepherd. It was wonderful, waking up to Lake Michigan and it's many moods. Some days were stormy, and we watched the waves crash to the shore. Others were calm and we watched the birds looking for meals. This was our first time to Door County, and I never knew how beautiful Lake Michigan is until now. The location is great...close to downtown Sturgeon Bay, but also a good location for exploring the rest of the county. We even found a Nature Preserve, Shimmering Sands, down the road on our last day. Thanks for a great time Mary!!

Very nice with everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

This property was absolutely fantastic. Sleeping accommodations were perfect. We even pulled the bicycles out of the shed for an added bonus. Beautiful deck out front to enjoy a cup of coffee and enjoy the sound of the waves hitting the beach. We're looking forward to making this an annual trip.
