About Kathleen Kern
I have been a City of Dunkirk resident for 28 years. I love my City and believe it has a lot to offer as a permanent place to live as well as a vacation destination! I work for the City of Dunkirk for the past 23 years and am now a personnel clerk there. My husband Al and I live 2 short blocks from the Cedar Beach House, so we can be there for you if need be. It's a lovely area to live/rent.
Kathleen Kern purchased this House in 2017
Why Kathleen Kern chose Dunkirk
The lake views are spectacular! There is lots of bird life to enjoy, as well as watching the boaters and beachcombers. The house is right on the bike path. You can walk or bike on the path with the two vintage bicycles provided, through the public park. There is also a bird sanctuary beside the park that you can walk the wooded paths on. You can hunt beach glass right out your front door as well as bring a chair onto the beach and enjoy the sun, water, sand and a good book! The house is close to local restaurants. It is a short mile to the City Pier where there are free live bands that perform every Thursday night in the summer months. Along with the lighthouse, there are many other interesting places to visit. The newly opened National Comedy Center is located in Jamestown, a 30 minute drive from the house. There is also Chautauqua Institution that has many cultural events in the summer. Roger Tory Peterson Institute is also located in Jamestown, and a longer drive, but still close is Niagara Falls. We are also located in the middle of the wine trail that runs along Route 5 from NY to PA!
What makes this House unique
-The house has a 2 car garage attached to the house. The guests have use of the entire garage. -There are cathedral ceilings throughout the 2nd floor. -There is a secret, private garden area in the back with plenty of seating, night party lights and a barbecue grill.

This was a wonderful girls' weekend getaway! The house was absolutely gorgeous! The views from the house were stunning. The beach wasn't very busy, but it was clean and within walking distance. Kathleen was so very helpful from start to finish, and she even recommended some wonderful local festivals that we were able to attend. I would recommend this beach house to everyone, and will most certainly be planning to come back!
Beautiful home with EVERYTHING you need!
Thank you, Kathy and Al, for sharing your Cedar Beach home with me and my family! You both did such an amazing job on the renovation and decor of the home! There is everything needed for an enjoyable stay: kayaks, bicycles, lawn chairs, beach blankets and towels, and even coolers to pack drinks and treats! Games and videos in case of rain too. I stayed in a home on Lake Tahoe and there wasn’t even toilet paper! In fact, this is the BEST house I have stayed at in over 10 years of renting vacation homes! We had many visitors too: butterflies, hummingbirds, eagles, a groundhog, and deer! We will be back again!
Teri and her family were ideal guests!!! She left the house in absolutely immaculate condition! We had a nice chat and good communication with texting and e-mailing. I hope Teri and her family come back soon!
We had a wonderful time. Kathy was great to deal with. We had everything we needed. Our kids loved the beach. Thank you!
Great House and Location
Wow. We hadn’t gone north for Summer until this trip. What a great house, great beach, perfect location and adorable community. We LOVED the access to bike path, Point Gratiot Park Beach, and the nearby skatepark.
We took up a new hobby: Beach-glass-hunting!!!
Kathleen is a wonderful host and made our stay a great experience. Thanks so much! We’ll be back.
We enjoyed our stay. The property was clean and had everything we needed. Would recommend this property to all and hope to stay again.
A Perfect Beach House
The house is spotless. It has every amenity a beach house should have. Communication with Kathy is effortless. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I'm certain that we will be staying there again.
Our property is located on the bike path which is also great to use for a walk! The house is located steps from Cedar Beach, which is a public beach. Point Gratiot is a public park and beach and is located a 1 min. drive or a 10 minute walk away. Also, the historical Dunkirk Lighthouse is a block away. Tours are available! On Thursday nights in the summer the City puts on free live music.
