This spacious, contemporary townhouse with expansive deck, open floor plan, cathedral ceilings, and central air conditioning is part of a development (60 homes on 108 acres) which includes a heated pool, 6 tennis courts, duck pond, and private access to Lake Tashmoo and ocean beaches. It abuts a public golf course and is a short walk to downtown and West Chop lighthouse. First floor includes a living room with 20 foot cathedral ceiling, fireplace, bleached oak hardwood floors and multiple large windows that create an inviting light, open and airy feel. French doors open onto a private deck with lounge chairs, picnic table, and gas and charcoal grills. A formal dining room boasts a window seat, built-in lighted display cabinetry, and large French country pine table. Eat-in tiled kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher/disposal, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, lobster and steamer pots, and refrigerator with icemaker/water dispenser. Den has futon, desk and high speed Internet access.

This is our fourth year renting the same unit, so needless to say, we

are VERY happy with it. For us, it is the perfect place, having the pool,

beach, and tennis as part of the rental. The unit itself is the perfect

layout for our family - plenty of space for adults and kids to spend

together, or apart!

Property not as advertised

We rented this property through a realtor. When we arrived, the rusted out garage door/storage area greeted us. We did not have access to this area, so it did not impact our stay, but it was an eyesore. The front door lock sticks, so we had to go around the back to get in. The property manager indicated that this was not a new problem and that the owner was aware of this. However, we had to fight with the lock the whole week every time we returned. The condo was very nice, the kitchen was bright and clean, the rooms on the main floor and second level were spacious. The basement, however, was musty, dark, and full of nasty looking spiders, and the door to the 3rd bedroom, located there, was off its hinges and in the furnace room. We also caught many carpenter ants in the master bedroom. The real problems came when we tried to use the advertised hot tub in the master bathroom. First, the stopper did not work, then we found out that the jets did not work. The property manager did her best to help--got a plumber out very quickly, but he was only able to fix the stopper. The jets needed an electrician, and they could not get one there before the end of our stay. Then, we tried to do laundry on Wednesday with the advertised washer/dryer and discovered that the dryer did not work. We spent our whole morning at the Laundromat at the airport paying to dry our laundry instead of enjoying the beautiful day. It took several days to get in touch with the owner, but she did call us at the condo on Friday to say that a new dryer would be delivered the next day. True to her word, it was delivered, but it was left unplugged and unconnected in the basement, and we were unable to use it. We left the next day. It's highly unlikely that the hot tub and dryer both broke in the few hours between the last guest and us. The realtor was wonderful, always responding to our calls, and trying to get in touch with the owner to resolve these problems. They indicated that the owner should compensate us for the lack of hot tub and dryer--two of the amenities that made us choose this property for our vacation, but when they asked her, she refused. All in all, we thought that for the price, the property could have been maintained better, and that the owner did not provide two of the amenities advertised. Because they really cared about our business, the realtor ended up refunding our $100 renters fee. Would rent through them again, but not this property.

Owner's Response: Despite repeated instructions, this guest did not understand that one simply needs to turn the front door key to the right in order to open the door. She also did not understand that the switch to turn on the jets in the whirlpool bathtub is on the wall opposite the tub (for safety reasons); no other renters before or after her reported a problem with the hot tub. Unfortunately, the dryer did break down while she was there (since we were not notified by the prior renter of a problem) and once notified, we immediately ordered a new one to replace it asap. It arrived 2 days later. However, hooking up a gas dryer requires the presence of the plumber who was unable to be there on the same day the dryer was delivered and did so the following day (after this renter departed). The garage door had some rusting on the bottom near the threshold (and has since been replaced). We intentionally removed the door to the bunk bedroom in the basement for safety reasons and to allow easy egress for our children. Finally, despite running a humidifier constantly, the presence of spiders and ants in the summer on an island like the Vineyard is commonplace; we try our best with weekly vacuuming and ant traps. For many years prior to owning our home, we rented on the Vineyard and periodically ran into problems with faulty appliances, etc., but never demanded full return of the rent.
