About Joanne Devaney
Life's next adventure. For 23yrs I worked in the Corporate Interior Design & Facilities Consulting industry, was an independent Project Management Consultant for 8 yrs, worked at BlackBerry in their Real Estate department maintaining their facilities management systems for 5 yrs and operated my own residential renovations company before relocating to Meaford. My "later in life" goal was to open a B&B. I love the Grey Bruce area. After my son went off to post secondary I started looking around and found the perfect home on the perfect spot. After 10 months of renovations my dream of running a B&B was realized. I'm a down to earth, outdoorsy people person who just happens to love to cook, pamper and entertain. I work part time at a local bank to keep me socialized and connected to the community.
Joanne Devaney purchased this Bungalow in 2016
Why Joanne Devaney chose Meaford
My goal moving north was to have some property and a "must have" was a view of the Bay OR a view of the Mountains. After missing out on a number of other properties this one came up. I never dreamt that I'd have spectacular views of both the Bay AND the Mountains. Another huge benefit was it being a raised bungalow with a walkout to the back of the property. This allowed me to build a fabulous private guest area with lots of natural light and its own outdoor patio and lounge area. It seemed, and is, perfect. I also saw great potential in the gardens and outdoor spaces. I love having areas to congregate and areas to slip away to be alone and reflect or just take in the surroundings. I have many ideas to make the property even more spectacular. Some projects are complete and others are a work in progress. The area has many offerings whether it be the arts, entertainment, fine food, outdoor adventures or just trekking around with a camera or a sketchbook.
What makes this Bungalow unique
I love that I can walk down to the beach any time of year and dip my toe in (and I do). Everyday is truly a new day at The Captain's Quarters. No sunrise is the same, no sunset is the same, each thunderstorm has its own uniqueness. The snow will bury you. The wind will roar. The snow flies up, down, sideways and yes, there are snownado's! And the rainbows, spectacular! There's a natural orchestra of crickets, bullfrogs, cicadas and birds, squirrelys, chipmonks and coyotes. Take in the day, chill by a fire, breath the fresh air and let nature lull you to sleep! Heaven!!

Fantastic place to stay and Joanne is a wonderful friendly owner
We really enjoyed at Joanne's place in Meaford. Joanne gave us a warm welcome and treated us wonderfully throughout our 2 day stay. The place was very clean and modern which made us feel right at home. Meaford was an ideal location for visiting friends in the area. We will certainly stay at Joanne's place when we return.
Thanks Gary, hope to see you guys again...cheers, JO
This property was very clean and close to many attractions in the South Bruce Pennisula area.
Lovely and peaceful stay - plus visits from some adorable dogs!
My three friends and I had a great time staying at Joanne's HomeAway property - it really did feel like a home away! Cozy, beautifully decorated apartment with a lot of light. Very clean and with a great backyard.
Joanne was warm, friendly, and kind and her breakfast board was delicious. Her dogs, Bella and Athena, were adorable! (We asked to have them visit with us - my understanding is Joanne can tuck them away if needed).
Big thank you to Joanne for making our stay at the Captain's Quarters so pleasant!
Thanks so much Candice, you and your friends are most welcome anytime. Enjoy the rest of your summer...Jo, Athena & Bella!
Wonderful host beautiful property very clean summarize your experience
Would definitely come back would recommend this place to all.
Thanks Ken, it was great hosting you and your group. Had fun meeting you all. Cheers Jo
Love this place!
My husband and I stayed here for three wonderful nights. Jo's place is super cute - very clean with everything you need. The place was so beautiful and peaceful that we cooked in two of the three nights using the outdoor wood BBQ. I am putting this on my return list for sure...and we are picky! The coffee and breakfast board was amazing, as well as Jo's garden. Everything was perfect - one of the best places we've stayed!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Its was so great meeting you and your husband and I love that you enjoyed everything you could. See you again, cheers for now, Jo
Check out Grey Bruce ATV/Off Road, Snowmobile, Georgian Biking Trail and Bruce Trail (and area) hiking maps online. Park, and go have FUN!! Getting lost isn't a bad thing. You will always find your way back and have great stories to share.
The Meaford Hall is always rocking and there are many town events/festivals etc. Check out their website. Lots of local establishments have food events, live music and activities. Wine tasting at Coffin Ridge. Cider sipping in Thornbury. Short drive to the Village at Blue and everything in between. I will try and keep you posted on what's going on each Month in the area.
