Spacious and historic town house on the village square of St. Aignan sur Cher near Zoo Parc de Beauval, Chateaux, and wineries.
The home, sitting on three floors, has three spacious bedrooms, two newly renovated bathrooms (each with separate water closets), a well fitted kitchen (with a dishwasher), and a separate living room with a working fireplace and dining area. Outside the master bedroom is a mini kitchen featuring a sink, counter space, small refrigerator, and microwave. The entrance room (former village bar) has a small table and chairs, perfect for a relaxing lunch. The main kitchen (newly renovated to high standards) also has an eat-in area. Off the third floor bedroom is a small terracotta tiled veranda.
This unique town house with origins dating back to the middle ages has many architectural elements reflecting the history of the house. Originally it was two homes with a service road in between. In the late 1800s the road was closed and the two homes were connected with a two story atrium/greenhouse. There is a walkway connector on the second floor joining the two old houses. A beautiful spiral stair leads down to the ground floor (the original stone road.) Tradition has it that the spiral stair rails were created in the shop of Gustave Eiffel.
We were drawn to St. Aignan by its beautiful views, the kayaking friendly river only minutes from the town square, the "feel" of immersion in the French village experience, and the availability of local shops and restaurants. The Boulangerie, in particular, has freshly baked croissants, pastries, quiche, and baguettes made to tempt the senses and never disappoint. On Saturdays one only need take a few steps out of our door to participate in the town market with everything from locally grown vegetables to oysters. AND, here in St. Aignan, your children and grandchildren are free to explore alone quite SAFELY! Children will also find entertainment at the local indoor/outdoor pool.
Near St. Aignan are the beautiful Chateaux of the Loire, the world-famous Zoo Parc de Beauval, and for garden lovers the International Garden Festival of Chaumont featuring multiple themed gardens to delight young and old alike.
This home is a new listing having been privately owned and lovingly tended to.
