Fab place, just needs some TLC.

  • 3 of 5

Spent a week here at the beginning of October 2008. The property is huge with the 6 bedrooms and massive lounge, as described. There were only 6 of us staying here, so we had tonnes of space which was great. However a few things really let the property down in my opinion.

The place really badly needed a good clean. It is obviously an old, rustic farmhouse, but the cobwebs, dirt under the sofas, kitchen shelves/drawers/cupboards really were unpleasant. It did feel that it wasn't that well maintained as many lightbulbs needed to be replaced, the tap was dripping/flowing in the downstair loo, lots of china was chipped, kitchen utensils were broken (chuck them out!!!) and some of the electrics were very french, but a little scary!

Our basic conclusion was that the property has so much potential, but badly needs some money spent on it. Whilst none of the above spoilt our week, it just would have made it a nicer experience.

As for Sorrus, it was a certainly a sleepy village, with no boulangerie even, but there were plenty of other villages/towns very close by.

As a final note, we did see this property in a Le Touquet estate agents!! Just a warning if you're booking for next year!!

Owner's Response: We take on board all feedback and appreciate all comments received from our guests. This helps us to improve so our clients can have a lovely stay in our home. If customers have any issues during their stay we have an agent on hand to deal with any queries or problems. If we are not advised we cannot respond. The house is not for sale. All the issues that have been raised have been dealt with. A new kitchen has been fitted, all crockery and utensils have been replaced. Tap is no longer dripping. The house has been thoroughly cleaned and the relevant people have been spoken to. The owner was away a lot last year and did not get the opportunity to keep an eye on things. This year will not be the same he will be on hand throughout the year to maintain the house. The electrics are not scary just strange. The main house is a barn conversion and for example in the upstairs rooms the light switch operates a wall socket for a plug in lamp. If the lamp is switched off at the lamp the light switch will not work. We assure you that you will have a very lovely holiday in our french house. We have just finished our fourth season and have many repeat guests and have had lots of positive feedback. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK AFTER YOUR STAY. We assure that you will have a great holiday in our french home. We

This was a family gathering to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Loos 1915 and in particular the passing of Pte Edwin Salt Hill, 2 Welsh Fusiliers, on 25 Sep, the opening day. Those present were Grandpa and Grandma (Edwin's grand daughter) from the UK together with their son James (Edwin's great grandson) with his wife Sarah, and their boys Henry and Joe (Edwin's great great grandsons) from Australia. We chose the right place. One hour or so west of the battlefield and only 30 minutes from the beach at le Touquet, Sorrus offered an ideal home for us all to relax, revive and remuster for a very active week. The joining instructions were comprehensive and accurate. The property was in immaculate condition and just as described on the website. We were especially pleased to find the bedrooms we preferred already made up, despite the owner, Peter, being away for a couple of days. The central kitchen was well equipped, with a table large enough to seat all six of us for every meal. We never used the dining room at one end of the house, except for the pool table which kept the grandsons happily occupied for hours. At the other end of the house, the Sky TV lounge was much appreciated for the rugby World Cup coverage and, above, the mezzanine library provided a quiet haven. The bedrooms and bathrooms on the top floor were neatly separated by a couple of doors providing the grandparents with welcome seclusion in the west wing. Outdoors, the surprises continued with a garage full of classic cars, two lovely kittens and eight perfect chickens, who kept Grandpa occupied all week. What is more, there was a great football playing grass area to one side of the house which kept the peace all round. In between enjoying the house and its surroundings, we found good supermarkets in and around Montreuil, cafes for that wind down beer in the market square and, on Saturday, a pretty good market there too. We enjoyed visits to 'Paris on Sea 'at le Touquet, its beaches, shops and bars, very elegant and free parking during the week. But we were there for a purpose and while we also visited Agincourt (1415), Vimy (1917) and the V2s at Wizernes (1945), all an easy hour or so drive away, on Friday 25 Sep we reported, with many others, to Dud Corner Memorial at Loos for the centenary. A moving day with much learnt and remembered. Then back to the peace and tranquillity of Sorrus and Peter's lovely home. Well done Peter and Owners Direct - six very satisfied customers.

Great Party Place.

  • 5 of 5

We were eight women in total, all great friends, who came to stay at this wonderful farmhouse to celebrate my 60th birthday. What a ball we had. It certainly is a great place to party. There were "wows" from everyone as we investigated the house.

Loads of bedrooms so no one had to share beds. The large spacious dining room was perfect and the living room with its vaulted ceiling was a great place to chill. The mezzanine was the best place to dance till the early hours, even if we were mostly of retirement age. All of us appreciated the lovely art work everywhere, the chickens roaming in the lovely garden and the peaceful village.

We went to a large Brocante market in nearby St. Josse, suggested by Peter and bought lots of bargains. Nearby beaches ( Merlimont and Berck ) were beautiful and mostly empty. Amiens was a good day trip, to visit the biggest cathedral in France.

On the last night we went to Froggies restaurant in nearby Montreuil, where the food was really good and the staff really helpfull and friendly.

Everyone had the most memorable time, in this lovely house which the pictures on the web site do not do it justice and we would certainly recommend it to friends. Thanks.

Perfect for a large group.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this for a weekend in March. Despite the weather still being unusually cold, the house was very warm and cosy. Peter the owner was extremely welcoming and helpful. The house is lovely, better than the photos, and very well equipped with everything you might need for a large group. Upstairs is enormous! with plenty of space for everyone to feel relaxed, and plenty of loos and baths/showers to avoid any queues! We had an excellent trip to the new Louvre gallery in Lens, which was well worth the visit for the extraordinary building as well as the exhibits! (it's also free entry for 2013!) We will be back!

Everything you need for a large group.

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place for a large group of family and friends. It's huge and this means that there's room for everyone to do their own thing and space for all to dine and socialise together. Crucially, there are also plenty of bathrooms and toilets.

Unusually, for a holiday let, there's enough comfortable seating for all guests , enough room around the dining table and plenty of crockery, cutlery etc. (if you're a keen cook, take a couple of sharp knives!) The log burner makes it a perfect cosy Winter hideaway. The decor is stylish and guests are trusted with many items that are part of a family home.

A pool table is a nice addition for younger members of your party ( and some older members!) and there's English TV if you need it.

Our visit was a Winter one, but there's lots of lovely outside space for warmer weather.

This is a very interesting area with lots to see, but any trip out means an expedition in the car because there are no shops within walking distance.

We loved Le Touquet and its magical Christmas lights. Avoid the town centre traffic nightmare by parking free in the small streets off the first big roundabout just before the Westminster Hotel and enjoy the short walk into the town. Have a crepe and some cider at the small creperie on the left just before the sea front; fantastic!

Boulogne is a nice day our for a wander around the fortified town, a bit of a shop and a leisurely lunch. Nausicaa is good for younger members of the party.

Do not miss ( if you're a seafood lover) the wonderful fish shop in Etaples, on the left after the roundabout, with a handy free car park next door. You can buy a ready prepared plateau de fruits de mer, or put your own together; cheaper than the posh place in Le Touquet!

Montreuil is good for a walk around the ramparts and here are many small places for lunch.

All in all, a great place for a large group with no disappointments.

A superb location for a family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Whilst Sorrus is less than 100 miles from our home in Kent, it felt like a totally different world and provided us all with a wonderful week's holiday. My husband, son and son in law enjoyed two great rounds of golf at La Mer and Les Pins whilst my two little grandsons loved the vast, spotless beaches with Merlimont a particular favourite- especially when the tractors were cleaning the beach! The Aquarium at Boulogne and the castle at Montreuil Sur Mer were thoroughly enjoyed by all generations.

The house exceeded all my expectations- it was so spacious, well equipped and spotless and we felt just like visitors in someone's own home.Peter, the owner, gave us such a warm welcome and his unobtrusive presence contributed greatly to our enjoyment of the week.

I would thoroughly recommend this property -especially to parties of mixed ages. The space and freedom for the children enabled the adults to relax and enjoy themselves too- a truly memorable holiday for everyone.

Thank you .
