Calm and rest in 230 m² newly fully fitted wooden house
New in 2015: a large 12x4 m heated pool currently under construction will be at your disposal in April 2015.
Therefore, there is no picture of the pool but the future detailed plan of the large terrace with pool is in the picture section.
In the foothills of the plateau of the Champagne Crayeuse, Chavanges is a small village with 700 inhabitants and many shops (bakery, grocery, pharmacy, medical centre, etc.) Located 15 km from Brienne-le-Château, Chavanges is a flowered village where it is pleasant to live and rest. Its monumental Saint-Georges Church, its hall and its half-timbered houses with their “porte-rue” will not leave you indifferent to the beauty of the site.
Located in the village centre of Chavanges, our gîte “Au detour du Der” was built in 2012. This new 230 m² house is in a contemporary style. It has been built around a huge living space (living room opening onto the kitchen and the entrance) where a sweet, warm and convivial atmosphere reigns. You will particularly appreciate the Zen and relaxing atmosphere of the wood as well as the natural warmth provided by the sunrays that penetrates trough large window bays.
Everything has been designed to ensure comfort. It is a spacious functional house composed of 4 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets and fitted to accommodate up to 10 persons.
You will fully enjoy the terrace that surrounds the house and spend pleasant moments with friends or in family. You can take your meals there but also relax and rest on deckchairs while enjoying the tranquillity of this place in the shade of the hundred-year-old horse chestnut that is in the park.
“Au detour du Der” is a labelled gîte with “4 épis Gîtes de France” and “4 Clévacances” and listed 4-star furnished tourist accommodation. By choosing a labelled accommodation, French and International customers benefit from a guarantee on the following commitment: warm welcome in a well maintained establishment and faithful and complete information about the offered services.
Close to the great Lac d’Orient and the greatest artificial lake of Europe, Lac du Der, our gîte will satisfy you with the wide range of offered activities.
Nature lovers will be delighted by the diversity of fauna and flora of our region. They will appreciate the presence and song of the Eurasian cranes from October to March. La Horre Pond, the rivers and the great lakes will delight fishing and carp fishing lovers.
Sport lovers will have many activities (parachuting in Brienne-le-Château, biking, golf, water sports, quad, horse riding, etc.)
Children will have fun in Nigloland (3rd amusement park in France) or in Accro-Der (tree climbing) or simply enjoy the many supervised beaches of our lakes.
Mothers will love shopping days in the famous outlet stores of Troyes
Everyone, with friends or in family, young and old, will love the tourist circuits of the Champagne Route, the half-timbered churches and the Memorial Charles de Gaulle without forgetting tasting of local products, the famous “Andouillette de Troyes”, the cider of Pays d’Othe, the rosé des Riceys, the Chaource, etc.

Why Laurence F chose Chavanges
We chose to build this house in Chavanges because the well-being and the quality of life in such house are beyond compare. The wood offers a convivial and warm atmosphere and the countryside provided calm, rest and serenity. We naturally wanted to share this experience by offering you to stay here.
What makes this Cottage unique
There is a free 12x4.5 m heated pool for the greatest pleasure of children and adults Our gîte stands in a 2500 m² park which is planted with some old trees, 2 hundred-year-old horse chestnuts and 2 dogwoods. We just planted a few fruit trees to give nature back its rights. Many bird and insect species visit us, live in the trees or simply look for food. We also house a family of hedgehogs which lives under the terrace or in the shrubs. It is a sad thing to consider that nature talks and human kind does not listen (Victor Hugo).

Lovely house with a great outdoor pool
7 of us thoroughly enjoyed our week at this property. It is a fairly new property, and was immaculately clean. It is situated close to the centre of a small town with a small supermarket, bakers, pizza restaurant and more. It is only a 3-minute walk to the centre of the town, yet you are far enough away from the neighbours not to need to worry about making noise. The house itself was more than big enough for our needs, with spaces to sit either together or separately if we chose. Most activities were a drive away, although in the village itself there is a tennis court you are able to use. Well recommended.
Thank you very much. You are welcome when you want to come again at Chavanges.
Wonderful modern house - the layout of the living areas is very open plan which suited us perfectly
Swimming pool is fantastic and large lawn great for playing games. Apart from one day at Nigloland and one day at Lake Der, we stayed at the house and enjoyed playing board / card games , the pool and the garden. Highly recommended!
Thank you very much Caroline , hope to see you again :-)
This lovely clean spacious house, in a quiet little village, suited us perfectly. Plenty of room for our party of 4 adults and 2 teenagers. The pool is a good size, very clean and not too deep. We loved the decking area for a relaxed day around the pool and a chilled BBQ in the evening. The village is only a few minutes walk away and has a lovely bakery, small supermarket and a pizza restaurant.
Laurence, the owner is charming and made us feel very welcome. We have visited France for a number of years now and this has been our favourite house.
Thank you very much for your kind appreciation that makes me very happy. We strive to give the best of ourselves so that our tenants feel at home. I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again " Au détour du Der" or in our new cottage which will soon see the day in Chavanges.
The property is situated in the quiet village Chavanges. It is safely enclosed by fences and a gated entrance, allowing little ones the freedom of outside. The pool has an alarm around it which adds to peace of mind with the children, (although did take a few days to work out the codes to get it off !)
The house itself is fab, and the pictures show it perfectly. It is finished to a high standard, was very clean and has all mod cons. We were a two family, party of ten, and therefore used all the space, but not at any time felt like we were on top of each other. The play area was great for the kids in an evening to play games, watch DVDs or play the Wii, allowing us adults the use of the downstairs. Outside there was lots of furniture and a variety of balls, inflatables and garden games for children.
Laurence was very accommodating with regards to travel cots and high chair, and was there to greet us say goodbye when we departed.
The only downside was how quiet the village was, the supermarket was adequate- although we used to use a bigger one about 20 mins away, the bakery was closed and the bar was open infrequently. The village was incredibly pretty and well located for visiting many things (Lac de Der, Vineyard tours, Nigloland theme park, Troyes) however you had to leave the village unless spending a day by the pool.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and our stay in the property and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday with a family or as adults.
Idyllic modern property in stunning rural location
First some background: We are a family of 2 adults and 3 teenage boys, (aged 16-19) travelling here from the UK for 1 weeks holiday in August 2015.
We have been taking family holidays in France for well over 30 years now, sometimes 3 times per year and have covered nearly all of this wonderful country, staying in villas, gites, houses and caravans along the way! This particular area is one which had not explored to its fullest before this holiday and so was one of the reasons for choosing this property.
The property itself is located in a very rural area, within a small village. There is a small shop and restaurant located in the village. The nearest larger supermarket and petrol station are located about 25 minutes drive away.
The property itself is lovely. It is very spacious, modern and clean and has everything you could possibly need while on holiday. It is situated in its own grounds which are gated and has a large heated swimming pool to the rear, which we made full use off during our stay. There is ample space inside the house, even considering there were 5 of us as this house can sleep up to 10 people.
Nearby there is a stunning lake, with lakeside beaches for sunbathing and plenty of activities to take part in like mini golf, cycling, horse riding etc. There are also restaurants and bars around the lake. There is a brand new tennis court loacated in the village (5 minutes walk away) which you can use while staying here, the owner will give you a key for the gate.
The lovely medieval city of Troyes is about 45 minutes drive away and is well worth a visit, it is very similar to York in style. There are all the shops and restaurants you could wish for there as well as an out of town designer oulet village (similar to Cheshire oaks or Bicester village in the UK).
Laurence, the owner of the property, is a lovely lady who made us feel so welcome and you can really see the care and attention to detail taken in looking after this property.
All in all we would highly recommend this property to anyone who was looking for a more tranquil holiday experience in a rural authentic french setting and we would definitely return for a second holiday at this property.
Thank you for this lovely review and hope to see again at Chavanges!
We had a fantastic holiday - the house is fully equipped and the pool was great for the whole family. We are already planning our return trip!
The only thing it needs is air-conditioning...other than that it is perfect.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you again. The air conditioning is part of the improvements we brought to our home....
