A Lovely Week in Maine

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is lovely. The deck is huge and comfortable. There is a shower out side by the teak table on the deck so when you return from the beach, you can rinse the sand and salt off. We would sit out side in the sun and dry off after the shower, when we returned from the beach. We also ate breakfast out there every morning. The deck is lovely. At first we had a little trouble locating the path down to beach. It is between two houses at the very end of the road. We felt as though we should not be walking through there, but we were assured by the neighbors that it was the correct way to the beach. We loved the beach and spent hours there eveyday, we brought our own floats and floated around. Our dogs loved it - splashing around, chasing bubbles and waves. We were always the only ones on the beach. The view from the beach was lovely, and we would also watch the lobster fisherman work their traps. There are pretty shells and some beach glass to collect, and lovely rocks also, if you enjoy that sort of thing, which I do. The cottage itself is roomy, bright, airy and so clean. We immediately felt comfortable and at home, although we did not spend much time indoors. We drove down to Osier's dock and picked up breakfast and dinner to eat on the lovely deck back at the cottage. We went into Damariscotta and rented DVDs/movies at Hannaford's to watch at night - 2 movies - 2 nights $1.49, that is so cheap in comparison to where we live. There is a little road side hut on Rt. 1 in Damariscotta called Larson's Lunch Box and it has the best lobster rolls in Maine, that we ever had and we could get our cell phone service there and I could use my laptop and get our wireless internet service as we sat on a picnic table and enjoyed our dinner. Out by the cottage, if you drive on past Osier's and keep going for about 10 minutes, you will wind up in one of the loveliest places in the world and there is a restaurant there on the bay. We drove all around there, snapping pictures. We hated leaving, the week went so quickly. I can recommend this lovely cottage with total enthusiasm and would love to go back - tomorrow and stay there forever.

Fall getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sloop Nellie/Kings Cove Cottage! The cottage is so cozy and inviting. It's a sweet historic home, just the right size, and it has everything you need. And it was so clean! The kitchen is fully equipped, and a nice kitchen to cook in.

We enjoyed the quiet of the neighborhood and the beautiful woods that surround the cottage. It's a 2-minute walk to the little cover, which would be perfect for people with small children. It's so private and beautiful. There is a lot to do in this area of Maine. We took four hikes at nearby nature preserves, some more strenuous than others. And there are so many great coves and bays for kayaking. Being off season, some of the restaurants are closed, but there were plenty of places to eat. Damariscotta is less than 1/2 hour away, and it is a really wonderful New England town with great shops, excellent restaurants, and a beautiful setting on the river. We would return to this spot for sure!

A lovely simple Maine experience

  • 4 of 5

A nice little Maine cottage, slightly smaller than I expected but great wide porches and with lovely weather we lived outside. The little beach which is easily accessible, less than 5 min down the road, is the highlight. At low tide sand and rocks for children and not as cold as I expected Maine water to be. We all swan every day. A nice yard for play. Very easy to reach nearby sights and shopping. Lovely walks both down the local roads and on local walking paths through woods and along the water. The owners were very responsive to our needs and any suggestions we had about needed improvements. We may go back.

The house was very comfortable & clean.

  • 2 of 5

The cottage was everything we could want. We were very disappointed in not being on the water and having no easy way to it. Access was through a woods alive with mosquitos and the feeling of being in someone else's yard. Most of our vacation was spent in the car looking for other things to do.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately our cottage is not oceanfront or directly on the water and we make every effort to ensure our guests are aware of this. Whilst it is a minutes’ walk, we hope you were able to enjoy the quite tidal beach that we have and explored other parts of Maine.

Fantastic base!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first ever USA trip, we had traveled to South Bristol from New York via Cape cod and arrived mid afternoon, Joe and Heather are real nice and so easy to deal with, they are both so accommodating, we were traveling light and were allowed access to all the family towels and stuff, i thought that was a really sweet gesture, thanks Heather!!

They had made sure the house was ready for us even though we had arrived earlier than expected, heating and lights on.

The house its self is a great place to stay, there were only two of us and we bounced around in there as its so big by UK standards, just wish we could have spent more time in the house as it was so comfy everything we needed was on hand, we wanted for nothing!!( but you can't sight see from a house!!) but it was great to return home to in the evenings, Its also in such a peaceful location and real close to the private beach (sunsets and wine),the house was spotlessly clean and managed but still has that homely lived in character!.

Many thanx folks, would definitley stay again.

Paul & Erika, Manchester UK.

Lovely cottage near it all

  • 4 of 5

My husband and two girls and I had a lovely staff at the cottage despite some very unusual warm temperatures. The cottage had everything we needed to be comfortable. We enjoyed the short walk down to the beach which to our delight, we had all to ourselves on several occasions. On a few overcast days, we were close enough to make day trips to Freeport, to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and into the lovely little town of Damariscotta which had all the provisions one would need.
