Patriarch Albert is a psychiatrist from Athens, Greece. He is the founder of Moral Science, the curator of The Museum of the Creative Process, and a pioneer in Conflict Resolution and the integration of the humanities and the sciences.
Innkeeper Georgette Levis, was the sister of Lazard CEO Bruce Wasserstein and beloved Broadway playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Guests are always surprised to see the huge Sisters Rosensweig poster in the inn’s living room. Georgette's family nick-name was Gorgeous and she inspired Madeleine Kahn's Tony award winning role in the Broadway hit.
The 4 Levis children include
Tajlei: an Andover, Columbia, and NYU law school grad who lives on the Upper West Side of NYC and is writing the Broadway bound musical adaptation of the TV show, Green Acres.

Oliver: a Cornell grad (where he met his wife Bonnie) and together founded Earth Sky Time Community Farm and Bakery, a thriving organic farm based from our childhood home, 3 miles from the inn. Their breads are a delicious part of the Wilburton inn breakfast and their organic farm night dinners every Wednesday in summer are not to be missed!
Max: a Columbia, Harvard Divinity School and soon to be Boston University PhD. Max is the intellectual of the bunch and could have been a wonderful rabbi but instead chose to be a scholar and innkeeper. Max collaborates with Albert to pioneer an on-line program of emotional education and self-knowledge.

Melissa Levis purchased this chateau / country house in 2002
This robber baron estate has evolved through the 20th century from a private home, to a prep school, to an inn and now to an inn that celebrates life as a farm, a bakery, and a museum advancing creativity to become the core of education. This is a spectacular, huge home where guests can relax and truly get away from it all.
Tour our outdoor sculpture trails that show the history of love and the evolving images of women through cross cultural myths.
Visit our son's Earth Sky Time organic farm and bakery less than 3 miles from the house.
This was a wonderful house for our week-long Christmas family reunion. The house was even larger and more comfortable than we had imagined from the pictures on the website. It easily accommodated our 20 family members with plenty of room to spare. The kids had plenty of room to spread out in their space, and the ping pong table in thegame room was a big hit.
The dining room was large enough for all of us to comfortably have dinner together every evening, and the fireplace in the dining room added to the festive atmosphere.
Dr. Levis is a very considerate and gracious host who made us feel right at home. Before we arrived, he had arranged to have a Christmas tree put up in the living room for us, and he checked in regularly to make certain that we were comfortable.
Manchester is a great place to visit. Lots of Vermont charm, an abundance of designer outlets and plenty of good skiing nearby.
We had a wonderful week and could have easily stayed longer.
Visiting Atlanta was an overall exceptional experience. This vacation rental was definitely in a great location lots of restaurants and shopping in walking distance. The condo came with everything we needed and more. Great space, cleanliness, and privacy are all things I look for when renting a vacation home, and all three were met. I highly recommend this property on your next visit to Atlanta. We worked with Ms. Mary and she was definitely thorough with the check in process making us all feel as comfortable as possible. I recommend this property for sure.
This our third year at the Mansion and Inn. Fantastic time was had by all. Mansion provided perfect outdoor area for our growing number of children to have a secure place to play and have fun. Accommodations as usual were extremely clean with a very responsive service staff.Inn provides excellent rooms for our more senior family members who enjoy family activities but want the ambiance provided.Enjoy working with management staff who are very willing to assist in anyway to insure a great time each year. Family looks forward each year and the year to come to a great time ,at a great venue , operated by great people.
Battenkill Mansion fit all of our requirements for a family gathering with the possible exception of some hot, humid days to be expected
in August in an era of climate change. With a cast of 25 folks from age 2 to 77, we had enough air-conditioned, well-maintained bedrooms, bathrooms, places to gather, privacy nooks, vast outdoor lawn to play, to sit, to read, and even a gazebo to shelter from the occasional rain. The commercially equipped kitchen was large enough for various folks to prepare their breakfast, lunch and snacks, and for the chef, we hired, to prepare wonderful dinners. The dining areas accommodated all us for meals and several to work on their computers during the day. The pool at the Inn was well-used by several of our party while others went off to explore hiking trails, shops, local swimming holes and summer music performances. Melissa and her staff were available when needed (which was seldom). All in all a great place to spend time with friends, family and loved ones.
It's not easy finding a venue that can sleep 30 family members and host an additional 20 guests for a milestone birthday party, but the Battenkill Valley Mansion fit the bill. Lea was thrilled to celebrate her 90th birthday in a sunny spacious room that could easily accommodate a piano, a ukulele, and lots of guests.
Before and after the party, family members had a great time cooking, chatting, sitting round the campfire, and swimming in the hotel pool. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to accommodate a large group that likes to cook and have fun!
All 34 of us returned to the Battenkill Valley Mansion for our family reunion this summer, having had our first reunion there four years ago. We lived it then, but Melissa has made many improvements that make the mansion even more comfortable. Among the changes:
-Central air conditioning
-A lovely outdoor gazebo, and lots of additional outdoor tables/seating
-Addition of two ground floor bedrooms
-Kitchen and grill area are brightened up and fully equipped with cookware, glassware, and place settings.
-All 15 bedrooms are furnished attractively, including lovely linens and well-appointed bathrooms.
The location can't be beat! On a hot summer days, various members of our group went:
-tubing on the Battenkill
-exploring the Bromley Slide
-swimming at the Dorset Quarry
-lounging poolside at the main hotel
Really highly recommend the Battenkill mansion for your group too!
This mansion was built in 1904 as a wedding present for the daughter who's father Albert Gilbert bought the nearby Wilburton Inn. Our family bought the Wilburton in 1987, this mansion in 2005 and our nearby family home, Earth, Sky, Time Farm is now the leading Organic Farm & Bakery in Manchester. We love the area having grown up here and raised our kids here and love sharing these historic homes with other big families and groups of friends.
