About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom With Superb Mountain Views

Ken and Manchun welcome you to their Gite nestling on the mountainside only a short distance from Lake Annecy. With southerly panoramic views and easy access to the cycle path and mountain footpaths, you will never be short of adventures. On the other hand, if you just want to chill and take in the mountain scenery, the patio right outside your doorway gives you just that. For keen and even not so keen cyclists there are a wealth of opportunities to challenge yourself with the alpine climbs used in the Tour de France or to just saunter along the “piste cyclable” all the way along lake Annecy to Annecy itself and explore this charming old town. **The Tour de France Etape du Tour starts in Annecy in 2018. We are perfectly located for riders who wish to be based near the route and major climbs.**

Our 50m2 Gite has a bedroom with a double and single beds. The living area has a convertible sofa which is also a double so the options for a family or friends will ensure a relaxing and rewarding break. The kitchen has all the facilities you need for eating al fresco or for preparing a picnic for a day exploring the area. A separate shower and WC complete the picture.

In the winter months, it is an ideal location for exploring the area and for access to some of the best ski resorts in the Alps. The nearest is Mt Sambuy, just behind Faverges, which is only a 20 minute drive. Crest-Voland and La Clusaz/Les Saises are 35 minutes and Megeve 40 minutes. Within an hour are the rest of the Aravis area and Chamonix. For a review of the ski resorts clustered around Crest-Voland see

The apartment is perfect for a family of five. It has everything you need. The view is the best part. The sight of the alpes is breath taking. The owners are really kind, and receptives. We'd definitely stay there again.

Lovely place to spend a week

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I had the wonderful week staying here. The apartment was spacious, well equipped and had beautiful views, with a sunny terrace. The host, Ken and Manchun, were welcoming and friendly, with plenty of helpful information about the local area. St Ferreol is a quiet village but is perfectly located for exploring the Annecy area: the lake and the old town of Annecy are not far. If you like walking or cycling, or just want to relax in the midst of stunning scenery, then this is ideal.

Beautiful location and welcoming host

  • 5 of 5

The property is perfect distance away from Lake Annecy so that it is convenient to get to the lake and shops/cafes etc when you want but that it provides peace and quiet too. It is located half was up a hill and this provides you with stunning views of the surrounding area. The gite is equipped with everything you need and is comfortable and clean. There is a large main room with a sofa that can be used as a bed, comfortable chairs and a coffee table. Located the other side of this room is the kitchen area and a large kitchen table and chairs that would comfortably seat six people. There is a full sized oven and grill which you can use either as gas or electric or both and a microwave if you prefer. Also supplied is a kettle, coffee maker, toaster, iron, full sized fridge freezer and a washing machine which is extremely helpful if you cycle. The bedroom has plenty of cupboard space and there is lots of additional bedding provided to cover all temperatures. The bathroom has a shower toilet and sink. The gite is heated with adjustable radiators and the host left the heating on and left it to us to control the individual radiators. We found this provided the perfect temperature for us.

The host Ken was happy to share his knowledge of both walking and cycling with us and was kind enough to take us on a bike ride around the lake pointing out places of interest as we went. We took up a number of his suggestions including walking up nearby Col de la Forclaz, cycling up Col de l'Arpettaz with it's numerous hairpins, and catching the train to the top of Montenvers-Mer de Glace to see the glacier located in Chamonix. There are plenty of other things to do and the local area is fascinating and beautiful. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a peaceful holiday, in beautiful countryside and particularly walkers and cyclists. Reading others reviews complaining about the lack of curtains and the church bells ringing - we would suggest using the traditional wooden shutters on the gite which block out all the light and we found the church bells to be unobtrusive and pleasing on the ear. If we return to this area of France would certainly use again.

Beautiful place, lovely people

  • 5 of 5

The gite is picturesque with beautiful views, sitting outside of an evening eating tea looking at the mountains was fantastic. The gite was comfortable and had everything you needed. Ken and his wife were more than accommodating and always happy to help with anything that we needed. Ken has a great knowledge of the local area which was very helpful for us and even joined us on a few cycles.

Would definitely recommend and stay again. It was a pleasure.

Lake Annecy
Car: recommended

Go to Annecy old town.

Take a trip on the lake ferry. The one that stops at the main villages.

Go to the Col du Forclaz. Walk up to the parapente take-off area. Jump!

Go up the Col de Tamie. Visit the Tamie Monastery (Great cheese). There are some nice walks in the surrounding area. Go up to the Fort de Tamie - lots of activities for kids and adults.

Go down the valley towards Ugine. At the first roundabout in Ugine turn left and follow the signs to go up the Col D’Arpettaz. 37 hairpins bends, 14.4 Km to the top. There is a restaurant and one of the best views of Mt Blanc.

Go to Talloires. Park in the village and walk around. Very picturesque.

Between Menthon and Annecy there is a back road which runs close to the lake. There are a number of public beaches and grass areas which are very pleasant to spend a day with a picnic. Some do not get very crowded.

Go to the Gorge du Fier which is to the west of Annecy. Go just AFTER it has rained.

Go to the Aiguille du Midi which is a cable car which gets you as close as you can be to Mt Blanc without climbing it! The cable car for two costs around 120 Euro. It is worth it. Get there as early as you can as it is very busy in summer. Best to book in advance.

Also in Chamonix is the train to the Mer de Glace. There is a tunnel into the glacier open in summer. You can combine 9 and 10 with a balcony path walk between the middle station of the Aiguille and the train station above the Mer de Glace. No. 1 on this list

Go over the Aravis range. Spectacular views. North west of St Ferreol via Manigod.

Take the chair lift up Mt Sambuy (July/Aug). Take the guided tour in the afternoon and see a marmot.

Drive to Mt Semnoz, above Annecy. Restaurants and walking on the plateau. Great views of the Alps.

Go down the valley and on to Albertville. Take the road to Beaufort and visit its cheese factory. Nice little viallge. Continue through the village and go up to the Cormet de Roseland. Beautiful mountain lake. Continue over the pass and down to Bourg St Maurice.

Go to the other lake - Lac du Bourget. Visit Aix-les-bains. Go round the lake, particularly the west side. Very beautiful and wonderful views.
