436 Barrett Drive is within walking distance of these trail types:

Hiking, Mountain Biking, Cross Country Skiing, Snowmobiling

Several Factors Make 436 Barrett Drive Easily Accessible:

436 Barrett Drive is 1 mile from Kingsbury Grade, (Hwy 207). The Grade is a good road. The Grade is the fastest, shortest, and most direct route in and out of South Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe's largest and best casinos are at the bottom of the Grade. Heavenly Ski Area's Nevada ski lifts are at the summit of Kingsbury Grade. Kingsbury Grade has light traffic compared with other Tahoe highways. Relatively few people know that the Grade is a good road in and out of the basin, because it does not look like a major road on most maps. So the Grade has much less traffic than the other 5 routes in and out of the Tahoe basin.

The Grade does not traverse any towns. The other routes in and out of the Tahoe Basin traverse many busy incorporated areas. You cross only one stoplight between 436 Barrett Drive and Tahoe's largest and best casinos. You cross no stoplights between Hwy 395 and 436 Barrett Drive. Hwy 395 runs directly to Reno International Airport, and is the main highway on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada from Southern California to Northern California.

The Grade is a moderate speed two lane highway, & is less stressful to drive than Hwy 50. Highway 50 is the route that most people use to access most other areas in South Lake Tahoe. Highway 50 is a curvy 4 lane undivided highway. Traffic is much heavier and moves faster on 50. Kingsbury Grade can get you to Reno International Airport on time when other roads can't.

Kingsbury Grade is a Scenic Route:

Kingsbury Grade offers spectacular views of the Carson Valley and surrounding mountain ranges, and passes through wildlife areas and ranches.

436 Barrett Drive is in Nevada:

The Nevada side of Lake Tahoe is much less densely populated than the California side, so you encounter fewer people and less traffic congestion and weather related delays. Also, snow removal services are much better on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.

Several Factors Make 436 Barrett Drive Easily Accessible in Winter:

436 Barrett Drive is surrounded by excellent snow removal services.

436 Barrett Drive gets large amounts of snow due to its high elevation and geographic situation. Despite the heavy snow, 436 Barrett Drive is very accessible due to its proximity to key highways and due to the excellent snow removal services in the neighborhood. Snow removal services in the neighborhood are purchased directly by property owners. Because the service is private, and we pay them directly, they are very responsive and efficient.

436 Barrett Drive is 100 yards from the neighborhood school bus route. Schools almost never close in Tahoe. If the big heavy school bus can get there in the snow, your small light car can get there in the snow.

436 Barrett Drive is 1 mile from Kingsbury Grade, (Hwy 207), along the school bus route. The Grade links Lake Tahoe with the Minden, the Douglass County Seat, in the Carson Valley. Because the Grade is the main road for all the county government vehicles in the area, the County road and snow removal crews keep the Grade in good repair and snow free. The Grade is also the most direct route in and out of the Tahoe Basin. You spend relatively little time driving in the snow at high elevation when you drive the Grade to and from the Lake. 436 Barrett Drive is at the crest of the Sierra Nevada, but is also at the edge of the Great Basin and desert. When you cross Daggett Summit on the Grade, just 1.5 miles from 436 Barrett Drive, you drop immediately into the arid Carson Valley. The Carson Valley is in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada, thus the Grade is a fast and snow free route to Lake Tahoe.

436 Barrett Drive is Near Nature:

At 7,500 feet above sea level, 436 Barrett Drive is adjacent to the Toiyabe National Forest. Overlook the peaceful Forest, snow-capped mountain ranges, and Carson Valley from the living room, deck, and master bedroom.

Enjoy great hiking and cross country skiing in the Forest:

Climb a 150' mountain top next to 436 Barrett Drive for a stunning panoramic view that includes Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Ski Area, South Lake Tahoe, Desolation Wilderness, Sierra Nevada, Emerald Bay, Carson Range, Castle Rock, Carson Valley, Carson River and White Mountain Range. Hike, Cross-Country Ski, sled, and climb on backyard trails and Castle Rock. Walk, ski or ride a few blocks to trails that take you to the Kingsbury Trailhead of the Tahoe Rim Trail for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, views of Lake Tahoe, and snowmobiling. You can also drive less than 1 mile directly to the Tahoe Rim Trail Kingsbury Trailhead. Also enjoy these activities and off-road motorized vehicle touring on the many National Forest Service roads at the Tahoe Rim Trail Kingsbury trailhead.

Douglas County rental permit number 06 - 328.

436 Barrett Drive is less than ten minutes from two Lake Tahoe public beaches:

Nevada Beach National Forest Campground and Zephyr Cove.

436 Barrett Drive is a short walk from these trail types:

Hiking

Mountain Biking

Cross Country Skiing

Horseback Riding

Tahoe Rim Trail

National Forest Service Roads

Off-Road Vehicle

Snowmobiling

About Vince Ulfig

I, Vince Ulfig, lived at 436 Barrett Drive, in Stateline NV, in the Tahoe Basin in 1998 and 1999. I bring my family to 436 Barrett Drive frequently. We love visiting our place in Tahoe in all seasons and would like to move back.

Vince Ulfig purchased this house in 1998

Why Vince Ulfig chose Tahoe Village

I bought 436 Barrett Drive for my primary residence in 1998, and lived there for one year. I have since added rooms and have made many renovations and improvements. The house is 3 minutes from the ski lift and has the National Forest and hiking trails in the back yard. It is really close to great roads, so we could quickly get to the shopping, restaurants, live entertainment, and commute to our jobs in Carson City.

What makes this house unique

436 Barrett Drive is a very comfortable house that has great views of mountain ranges and Heavenly Ski Area. The deck and the hot tub are extensions of the house adjacent to the living areas and make the house feel bigger. The floor plan is open and flows from room to room, so it is great for entertaining and conversing with family and friends. The kitchen is really big and open and integrated with the rest of the living areas. The National Forest is in the back yard and we have a lot of fun sledding, hiking, skiing and viewing wildlife there.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Your house was great and all six of us enjoyed the weekend.

No significant problems to report with the house.

The roads were clear and it was easy to get around town.

It was very convenient to get to the slopes at Heavenly.

None of us had ever entered Heavenly on the Nevada side

and it was considerably less crowded than the California side.

The Jacuzzi was used several times and enjoyed by all.

We found everything we needed in the kitchen and plenty of blankets, pillows and TOWELS.

Nice place!

I have rented many places in different locations for vacations over the years.

Usually they are marginally as advertised.

We were very pleased to find that yours was better than expected! Thanks!"

9-28-2005 - 10-3-2005

We traveled 1800 miles for a small family wedding and never felt more at home. The pool table, ping pong table and Jacuzzi were more than enough to keep our 3 teenagers occupied. The views wer exquisite. The people were friendly and the weather was beautiful. We all enjoyed our time here tremendously. Hope to return again soon. Your Hurricane Rita evacs.

Great location, great for a group of family and friends

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! Great location (Uber distance to Casinos & Zepher Cove). The home is 4 bedroom and has ample areas for others to sleep. There is a sleeper couch in living room & even some air mattresses (although we couldn't find pumps, so didn't use them) & child mattresses in the closets to pull out. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need for cooking & there is an nice BBQ outside. The house is also very well stocked with towels! We went with family & friends to celebrate my son's birthday and the trip was enjoyed by the young adults as well as us "oldies"!

The only (minor) caution I would give is that there is a very small spiral staircase that takes you down to one of the master suites. That lower room is great because it is much cooler down there (if you go in the summer), but you do have to be very careful on those stairs (they do have a gate guard in front of the stairwell in case you do have small kids). There is access to the lower master suite from the outside deck too, but there are stairs there too.

Only a few negatives:

1) No A/C ... I thought the site said it had it, but it didn't. That said - the house is shaded, so it stays pretty cool - but there isn't a lot of airflow even when opening the windows - except for that lower room - which is the one my husband and I grabbed! :-) One of the rooms did have a portable fan in it, but it didn't work. If there were some working fans provided in each room to pull in the cool air & to circulate the air at night I think it would have been completely comfortable, but even without them it was not bad.

2) We had some problems getting the TVs to work. When we arrived the remotes were all piled in one room, many with no batteries. We had to do trial & error to get things to work, & after trying for about an hour, we finally figured out that one of the boxes to one TV in the living room was disconnected. Would have just been nice if they had everything working, & maybe had a short instruction list as to how to turn it all on. All is well that ends well though & it was nice that they had the cable & the Roku.

3. The Jacuzzi is wonderful, but it was filled to the brim when we opened it! Three people got in, it literally overflowed, and there is no way to refill it.

All things considered, we loved the place and would definitely go back again! Beautiful scenery off the deck and a very comfortable home to enjoy with a group of family and friends.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

This was by far one of the best trips I've been on and everything went smoothly! Vince was great and responsive to emails during the stay. The only issue was with the garage- we had planned to have 4 vehicles at the property which should have been fine, but when entering the garage there was a huge "DONT PARK IN THE GARAGE" sign but I had not been notified of this prior to my stay. Vince responded to my email letting us know that there was some damage to the garage and to not park in there if there was snow or water on a vehicle (it just snowed so our cars were wet). It's not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have known this prior to driving individual vehicles!

Aside from the garage, the house was perfect! Plenty of space and felt like home! I would highly recommend this house again, and would love to stay here again!

Great house, great service!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed there with the family last week and it was great! Vince was very good at staying on top of things, even answering my endless amount of questions that were clearly answered in the rental agreement that I didn't read, lol. He was always polite about it. There was a situation where the driveway to the house hadn't been plowed the day of my arrival but he called me and offered to pay for a cab if I parked my car elsewhere until the driveway was done. That was unexpected and very nice. Steve, the man who plowed the driveway, even checked on us while we unpacked the car a couple hours later. He was very nice and cordial even though I was a little thrown by how he seemed to know who we were. :)

The house was clean and well equipped. I had no problems cooking anything. There were ample towels to use and lots of space. The only issue I would say I had was that the living room didn't seem to get warm even with the fireplace and heater going. I don't blame the house or the owner though since every exterior wall of the house was covered in snow. There was literally a pathway dug out for us on the deck to the hot tub. Snow was probably 5 feet deep. The front entrance had at least 8-10 feet of snow dug out for us. There was a leak problem right above the pool table that I notified the owner about right away and he assured me it was there before and that no one had been able to get to it during the storm.

All in all, I highly recommend staying here. My kids loved being able to play in the snow on the deck and I loved not having to go out with them but still watch them from the windows inside. Being able to cook everything we wanted also made things much more comfortable for our stay.
