The cabin sits at the top of a fairly steep private road, with views across the valley to the west from the second storey deck. It's very well appointed, for sleeping, cooking and entertaining. Good quality beds, linen, cookware, crockery, stove, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
One bedroom upstairs, two down. Open and well furnished living areas on both levels. Although cell phone coverage is largely out of the question in these parts, the cabin has internet access and a landline. Effective A/C for our brief summer stay, and an open fire for winter.
The owners' communication and response to any queries was pretty much instantaneous, their directions easy to follow, and the cabin was spotless on our arrival.
We arrived from TN via the tail of the dragon; missed Cade's Cove en route and owing to passengers' propensity for motion sickness did not return for that. Stocked up on food in Robbinsville, but the alcohol-dependent should be aware that Graham County is dry: if you're planning to quaff Dom Perignon or belt down a gallon of hooch on arrival you'll need to stock up elsewhere. (The cabin is roughly equidistant between Robbinsville and Bryson City.)
Highlights of our 4 days: Cherokee (the Museum of the Cherokee Indian is first rate); the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest (a good deal better than the poem, with an easy hour or so's walk along the trails); Lake Santeetlah (swimming at Cheoah Point); Fontana Lake (swimming at the Narrows, approx 1 m east of the 28/74 intersection) - all highly recommended.
As our first experience of the Smoky Mountains, we were delighted to stay here.
The house was clean and kitchen well stocked. Comfortable beds and very relaxing wooded setting at the top of the hill. Jeff and Lisa are great hosts, called us early in our stay to make sure everything was going well. Will recommend to friends/family.
House listing description was accurate
House was clean and maintained.
Robbinsville food store was close by and stocked.
National park, casino and "dragon" are accessible.
Access to and from house via motorcycle is difficult on a street bike due to incline grade and gravel driveway.
Very nice, remote vacation spot in the Smoky Mountains. Convenient to both Robbinsville and Bryson City, this secluded spot is a nice departure from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Comfortable both upstairs and downstairs, we totally enjoyed our stay here.
Even for an off season stay this place was wonderful and we would do it again in a heart beat. Cabin has everything you need for a 5 star stay. The plentiful firewood and big TV's made it wonderful to play games by the warm hearth or watch a movie. The owners were speedy in their communication and make everything easy and seamless. MTB'ing Tsali was fantastic and is not that far away at all from the cabin. This allowed the family to get out and do that or hike around beautiful lake Fontana.
We will be back again for sure and this is our first pick.
We spent Thanksgiving week with our Children and Grandchildren. The little ones really enjoyed hiking around the cabin collecting sticks for the fireplace that kept us warm and gave the cabin the ambiance desired. The view was really nice. Our day trips to see local artisans and exploring the surrounding mountains was worth every minute of the stay. The Cabin was large enough for everyone. Our Hosts could not have been nicer and were very helpful. The cabin was clean, kitchen had all that we needed. Since it is on top of a mountain 1st or low gear is necessary in the last leg and not recommended for night travel (for us anyway). We would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting that rustic feel, but with all the amenities. We would stay there again.
Centrally located to: Fontana Village, White Water Rafting, Trout Fishing, 4-wheeling, Boat Rentals, Great Smoky Mountain Railway, National Parks, Appalachian Trail, Nantahala River, Fontana Dam, Joyce Kilmer National Forest, Cherohala Skyway, Lake Santeeliah, Cherokee and Tsali Recreation.
We are equal distance between Bryson City and downtown Robbinsviile.
