Our family rented a variety of homes in the mountains of western NC over the years. We loved staying in vacation rentals, so when we found Pine Shadows Chalet and fell in love with it in 2003, we took the plunge into second home ownership. After a year we decided to share our wonderful vacation home with other families. It has worked out fabulously, and the people who have stayed have been top-notch!
For twenty years, I was professor of fine arts and humanities at Florida State College in Jacksonville, FL. My spouse is a retired journalist of The Associated Press and has recently published his first novel. So the chalet has a full library of books and music and is decorated with an artist's touch. Come enjoy our wonderful place.
Karen Armel purchased this chalet in 2003
We keep our beautiful home well-maintained, updated, and guest-friendly. Your great experience visiting Pine Shadows Chalet is our top concern. Our guests -- some of whom return year after year -- say it best in their reviews. Please view them.
We instantly loved Pine Shadows Chalet because of its surrounding pastoral beauty. We liked that the home was at the top of a private road and off the beaten track yet in close proximity to the attractions and shopping in Hendersonville and Asheville. The house was custom-built in 1981 with a 25' apex in the living room at the top of the 5000-brick fireplace. We loved the many angles of the walls and roof lines, the interior brick walls, the natural oak doors, and the many upgrades too numerous to list. We were instantly drawn to the gorgeous westerly view from the living room-dining room, all the natural light, and the 'good karma' of the chalet. The owner/builders lived at Pine Shadows Chalet from 1981 - 2003. We are the home's lucky second owners.
The chalet was as described in the description, nestled in a quiet peacefull setting. Our family enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend this property.
Chalet had all the comforts of home and great ambiance. Close to grocery stores, restaurants and yet enjoyed peaceful mountain experience. Hope to stay again next year. It was perfect for us!
A forced vacation because of the evacuation turned into so much fun! The chalet was perfect. Everything we needed was available from pots and pans to wifi, even hotel size soaps/shampoo. The owners leave wood and kindling so we were able to have cozy fires and smores!
We had an awesome time on some nearby trails, little Bradley falls, Norman wilder trail and apple picking! All within 30 minutes, there are also vineyards in the area. The dogs couldn't have been happier either. It's hard to find home owners that allow our fur babies.
The view of the woods was gorgeous and the house was quiet private and peaceful. What a wonderful home away from home.
Couldn't have asked for a better stay and will definitely want to go back some day for a planned vacation!
Our interaction with owner Karen was great as well! She's very sweet and quick to respond!
Five stars! Stay here if you are headed to the mountains!
We enjoyed our short stay at Pine Shadows. The setting was so peaceful and quiet, the house was beautiful and well appointed, and the location was convenient to local restaurants. Working with Karen was wonderful and easy. We hope to have the opportunity to stay there again in the future.
The perfect place to stay while we competed at TIEC. So close, comfortable and accommodating! Easy to run home for lunch, snack, quick nap or to escape the heat. We will definitely make a reservation at Pine Shadows Chalet during our next show at TIEC or FENCE.
Belatedly, I feel compelled to express my great satisfaction with our stay at this most comfortable, well-maintained mountain home Feb. 28-March 3rd 2016. The chalet was everything the owner said it was and it fit our needs for rest and relaxation perfectly. I am an obsessive reader, the chalet had its own library and a well-functioning fireplace that made reading more pleasurable. Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, several waterfalls and a variety of fine dining establishments were within a 30-45 mile drive. We fully expect to return.
