Karen & Paul Schmidt
About Karen & Paul Schmidt
Paul & Karen both graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and in 1995 became the 4th generation of farmers on the Schmidt's diverse family farm. We have a focus in organic land management and sustainable biodiversity.
Karen & Paul Schmidt purchased this Farmhouse in 2017
Why Karen & Paul Schmidt chose Preston
We added the 1890's guest house and the 60 acre beautiful piece of property to our home farm in 2017 to share our love of farming with others. This property adjoins our home farm with the guest house located in a secluded location less than a half mile from our home.

We Loved It!!
We recently spent three nights at the farm and had a blast! We were there with our two young kids (8 and 4) who absolutely adored each and every moment and animal there. The property is gorgeous and being there during the fall colors was an added bonus! Karen and Paul are truly amazing hosts and gave us so much wonderful information about the farm, property, animals, their life, etc. We truly enjoyed our time there and it gave us a wonderful experience as a family that we will never forget! We hiked daily around the beautiful wooded area near the guesthouse. Our only suggestion would be to have a microwave in the guesthouse kitchen and also a regular coffee pot in addition to the Keurig. Thank you for a fantastic stay!! We will be recommending your place to all our friends.
Home away from Home
The overall stay was a very nice one we all enjoyed our time there. Could use rail on the stairs for us older people, but as hosts you both were wonderful Thanks for the good memories

Relaxing Family Getaway
I can't say enough about our experience at the Schmidt Farm. Karen and Paul were so welcoming to our family, it was like were part of their family.
Nice quiet getaway.
Very nice accommodations grandkids enjoyed the animal collection.
Due to time constraints because of a wedding we were not able to fully use the accommodations.
Wonderful family getaway
What a pleasure it was meeting Karen and Paul and staying with them on their farm! They truly make you feel like family and want to ensure every need and want is met. They invited our teens and friends to join in on chores and brought animals to stay at the farmhouse with us and gave gator tours of their property. The farmhouse was lovely and unique and we can’t wait to return! Thank you for an amazing experience and stay!
Magical Farm Experience
My husband and I wanted to do a family vacation with our married children and grandchildren. We had originally thought about a lake property but as I was searching, Schmidt Family Farm popped up. We just returned from Schmidt Farm and can't say enough good things about our experience. The property is beautiful and the farm house gives you the feeling of stepping back in time (especially loved the quilts). I would have to say the most magical part of our time on the farm was interacting with all the lovely animals that Karen and Paul keep. My grandson (6) got to help with chores at the main farm and also care for several on "our" farm. Every morning he ran outside to check on the chickens, ME the rabbit, Nibbles the goat, Tinker the pony and two rascally goats named Wattles and Bell. Did I forget to mention the kitties Hunter and Cruiser? Liam enjoyed the animals so much!! It was amazing to watch his confidence grow every day and try new things. Karen and Paul were so welcoming and made us feel like part of the family. We even got to enjoy a concert at a pizza farm where Paul was playing. The adult children also had fun fossil hunting and relaxing by the campfire.
As Karen said, "everyone used to know someone with a farm" and now we do! We'll be back to check on "our" farm. Thanks again Karen and Paul for sharing your life and home with us.
