About Ashley and Marcus Mattila

We own a 4400 square foot Fine Art Gallery here in South Lake Tahoe, and because of this I know how important 'details' are to creating a wonderful experience. I have worked hard making 'Towering Pines Lodge' a retreat for your next vacation to South Lake Tahoe. This house is perfect for a couple or you can fill every pillow to the max, 9 people. Either way, for the price, I can not imagine what else you would need to make your vacation better. We often place our World Famous Artist's at 'Towering Pines Lodge' so the house is loaded with more Ameninites than most, and because we have the gallery, of course, there is wonderful Artwork throughout. Our house is clean, casual, cozy and perfect for your next vacation:) Enough about us...rent our house!!

Ashley and Marcus Mattila purchased this house in 1994

Why Ashley and Marcus Mattila chose Lake Tahoe South Shore

It is loaded with everything you need for a vacation! You can Cross Country Ski, Bike, Hike or Snow Shoe right here, out our back door - without driving. Our neighborhood is wonderful. We are in the forest and we live on a deadend street, but we are only a short drive to the Casinos, Heavenly, Stateline, NV.

The private hot-tub is the newest edition to Towering Pines Lodge. Imagine yourself in the dark of night with 1000's of stars sparkling above, in silence all while sitting in 104 degree, bubbling water. Ahhhh, so sweet:)

There are many US Forest Service trails at the end of the street to the Best Beaches of Tahoe, Fallen Leak Lake, Camp Richardson, and the Beacon. In the winter there is even a groomed track for snow shoeing and cross country skiing.

What makes this house unique

It is rare to find a house like ours for this price. The house is loaded with all the comforts to make your vacation wonderful. The house is super, super Cozy AND Clean which is a tough find for a South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals. Many of our clients have rented our house over and over again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Ashley,

Sorry for the late response! I wanted to thank you so much for letting us use your beautiful home! It was the first time my family celebrated Christmas somewhere else besides my parents house in 28 years. Everyone was so pleased with the house and they are already talking about their next trip to Tahoe. Your house had everything we needed and things we didn't know we needed making my families trip so relaxing. My father owns a furniture store and wanted me to tell you that if you are ever in need he would love to trade furniture for another stay (fully understanding that it would exclude holidays). Again thank you so much for everything and thank you for waiving the dog fee, that was very sweet of you!!

Have a great day!!

We found the neighborhood quiet and beautiful because it is in a forested area. We were there for a wedding and the location was very convenient to the wedding venue as well as to beaches and Lake Tahoe attractions. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to vacation with you again.

Tahoe Family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the house with family for a family reunion at Camp Richardson. The location is perfect for getting to the campground, beaches and even downtown Tahoe. We had 7 adults and 2 children staying together. There was plenty of room and everyone was very comfortable. The house does not have air conditioning but we didn't ever feel uncomfortable. Ashley was very nice and helpful. Any problems we did have, she was quick to solve. I would love to stay here again.

Great people, nice home however some dislikes.

  • 3 of 5

Off the top the homeowners were great with any questions I had, and quick to respond. Very nice people. However there were some downsides. For one the house was not clean when my family and I arrived. Pet hair throughout the house, on couches, living room and the carpets. Very unpleasant, espically when you pay for cleaning fee. There was dust on the small furniture throughout the house and on the tv cabinet. We had to vacuum on the first day we got there, which was not a great start. Second major issue was the WIFI or lack thereof (1mb upload and download speed). There were dead spots throughout the house and if you get lucky and get a good WIFI signal then you can't afford to move or else your out of luck and back to looking for good signal. We rented the house for 5 nights and the last day and a half we had zero wifi. Could not use the smart tv or our phones to stream movies throughout our stay and ruined the fun when we are trying to stream music or movies because it's snowing outside, and things just don't work. Overall the house is behind its time. When you pay 2k plus you expect those simple things to be taken care of as I have rented over ten homes and none of them had issues suck as this home. Also little nagging things, for example it takes hours for the house to heat up, the toilets don't work well, the shower is "old school" as mentioned in bathroom in a picture frame that the homeowners put. and again goes back to the home being behind the times and lacks enjoyment when your constalibtly dealing with nagging issues.

Owner's Response: Please read our other 60+ positive reviews. Our house is not Ritz-Carlton that oozes pure luxury, but our home is clean, up to date, and we deliver all that we advertise. Our house is an excellent value.

Great/Spacious Cozy Home!

  • 5 of 5

We had the entire family (four couples and a child plus a couple four legged friends) come together for a snowy Thanksgiving trip to Lake Tahoe. Overall, everything was very clean and well-maintained. Bathrooms were stocked with extra towels (bath and hand) and shampoo/conditioner/bodywash. The master was absolutely perfect for the family of 3 with the young child to have their own bed to sleep in. Only one bathroom was shared and it was a very roomy one. The one bedroom with two twin beds has changed into a queen (not sure if it was just pushed together for us) but worked out perfectly as we are all couples and didn't need the twins. Everything worked perfectly...wifi, warm garage, and we certainly put the kitchen to good use. We made a huge feast for everyone. Kitchen is completely stocked with all the pots/pans/cutting boards/spices you could need. The backyard has a very new enclosed fence where we felt safe for the dogs to roam around in.

Loved the fact that there was a huge pile of firewood outside to use in the wood stove. We put that thing to good use!!

Thanks for an amazing time!
