About Ashley and Marcus Mattila

We own a 4400 square foot Fine Art Gallery here in South Lake Tahoe, and because of this I know how important 'details' are to creating a wonderful experience. I have worked hard making 'Towering Pines Lodge' a retreat for your next vacation to South Lake Tahoe. This house is perfect for a couple or you can fill every pillow to the max, 9 people. Either way, for the price, I can not imagine what else you would need to make your vacation better. We often place our World Famous Artist's at 'Towering Pines Lodge' so the house is loaded with more Ameninites than most, and because we have the gallery, of course, there is wonderful Artwork throughout. Our house is clean, casual, cozy and perfect for your next vacation:) Enough about us...rent our house!!

Ashley and Marcus Mattila purchased this house in 1994

Why Ashley and Marcus Mattila chose South Lake Tahoe

It is loaded with everything you need for a vacation! You can Cross Country Ski, Bike, Hike or Snow Shoe right here, out our back door - without driving. Our neighborhood is wonderful. We are in the forest and we live on a deadend street, but we are only a short drive to the Casinos, Heavenly, Stateline, NV.

The private hot-tub is the newest edition to Towering Pines Lodge. Imagine yourself in the dark of night with 1000's of stars sparkling above, in silence all while sitting in 104 degree, bubbling water. Ahhhh, so sweet:)

There are many US Forest Service trails at the end of the street to the Best Beaches of Tahoe, Fallen Leak Lake, Camp Richardson, and the Beacon. In the winter there is even a groomed track for snow shoeing and cross country skiing.

What makes this house unique

It is rare to find a house like ours for this price. The house is loaded with all the comforts to make your vacation wonderful. The house is super, super Cozy AND Clean which is a tough find for a South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals. Many of our clients have rented our house over and over again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Ashley,

Sorry for the late response! I wanted to thank you so much for letting us use your beautiful home! It was the first time my family celebrated Christmas somewhere else besides my parents house in 28 years. Everyone was so pleased with the house and they are already talking about their next trip to Tahoe. Your house had everything we needed and things we didn't know we needed making my families trip so relaxing. My father owns a furniture store and wanted me to tell you that if you are ever in need he would love to trade furniture for another stay (fully understanding that it would exclude holidays). Again thank you so much for everything and thank you for waiving the dog fee, that was very sweet of you!!

Have a great day!!

Quiet location great for our hiking

  • 5 of 5

The house was located in a quiet area (except for the nearby road construction) and adequately served all of our needs. The few minor problems were addressed and did not affect our stay. We were part of a large hiking group and the house was located quite near our chosen hikes. The fenced back yard gave us a sense of privacy and the jacuzzi was just what we needed after our hikes. For the most part we cooked in, although we did stop at a few restaurants after our hikes. Our favorite was Lake Tahoe Pizza. We would choose to stay there again if we ever get back to Lake Tahoe.

Terrific access to all things Tahoe!

  • 4 of 5

This home is literally half a block from a handful of fantastic trails. If you mountain bike or hike, you can walk out the front door and find dirt within a quarter mile. There are very flat trails that lead to a trailhead and a lake, or you can point it uphill and find a long, gradual climb that connects to several much tougher options--all end with a 2-3 mile blazing downhill on the way home. On lake days, we packed the car and drove literally 5 minutes to several beach options. This proximity to nature and the lake was exactly what we were looking for. Perfection!

The kitchen was as well stocked and equipped as any VRBO I've stayed in. We did all of our cooking here, and we never found ourselves short on equipment, condiments or utensils. We always try to add to the supplies to encourage this element of the VRBO experience. This is a huge plus in my opinion. I love being able to leave our kitchen basics at home when we travel.

The only bummer was the fact that the home itself does not have AC, which made the upstairs bedroom almost unusable during the day on the exceptionally hot week of our stay. The internet was also offline the majority of the time, though Mark went out of his way to help us in that regard. He was extremely pleasant to deal with and I'd definitely stay here again.

Lovely, Relaxing Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the location on a quiet, residential street with friendly people passing by. Even though it was a holiday weekend, the house was very private feeling. When we let the owner know that the wifi was down, they responded immediately and got it fixed. They are very good about maintenance & comfort. The house is close to a great dog beach (Kiva). Great vacation!

Perfect family home!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had five friends all together and the house was great and big for all of us. It was a little ways to the Main Street of Tahoe's attractions but it was perfect for people who wanted to walk to the beach or take a bike trail.

Thank you,

Perfect dog friendly quiet neighborhood home!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time using VRBO for our vacation. I was very happy with the overall experience. The home was perfect for us and our 2 dogs! The fully fenced backyard was the main reason for renting this home, as that was important to me for our dogs. They had a nice hot tub, which we didn't use but it looked clean and the water was hot! I bet that would have been nice to use on a clear sky evening!

The homeowner was easy to work with and was always quick to respond to texts or emails. I asked her what restaurants she recommended and that was helpful... our favorite was The Beacon Restaurant in Camp Richardson, which was very close to the house. With Raley's and Starbucks just down the street we had everything we needed!!! We also really liked Lake Tahoe Pizza Co., a family owned pizza restaurant in South Lake Tahoe.

The neighborhood was quiet which is what we wanted as we go to bed early and trails to hike were close to the house.

I appreciated the fact that the house had lots of bath towels, dish towels, dish soap and Toilet paper, they didn't skimp on any of that, so I didn't need to go to the store to stock anything for the week we were there!

The heated garage was a bonus too!!!

All in all, we loved the house and would definitely rent it again!
