Charming Cottage in South Wellfleet
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property in South Wellfleet. The grounds and gardens were vibrant and well maintained and the spacious large outdoor deck offered a great space for early morning and late evening moments of relaxation. The interior was nicely furnished with all the amenities of home, including a state of the art kitchen were we enjoyed preparing our own local dishes. The cottage remained very cool and comfortable despite the lack of air conditioning. The cottage was located on a very quite street and contained a large driveway for easy access to the front entry way. The property was just minutes way from Wellfleet and walking distance to the local beach that was great for kids. The cottage is a gem that is perfectly located in the heart of South Wellfleet!
Thank-you! We take great care with the garden, the deck and the great room to create a relaxing cape experience for our guests. Vacations need to be a restful getaway and we think we have a great neighborhood for resting and getting away -- with so much to enjoy close by, especially our little hidden gem of a bay beach just a few steps away. Glad to read that you thought so too. And we couldn't be happier to hear that you found the new kitchen to your liking. Please come again, soon!
Nice house and location
We've stayed in the Drummer Cover area numerous times--it's a pretty spot and great location. We lock up our kayaks at the end of Paine Hollow Road (an easy walk from the house) for exploring the marshes at high tide. LeCount Beach on the ocean side is a quick bike ride from the house, so you don't need to worry about parking, permits, etc. It's also easy to get to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. You'll have to bike down Route 6 a little ways (less than a mile) to get to the trail head, but the shoulder is wide. The house is spacious and comfortable with a brand new kitchen. I can see how the house could get warm on hot summer days (as other reviewers have noted), but we didn't have any issues during our stay thanks to cooler-than-usual August nights. We love the porch that wraps around the house, and we used the outdoor shower multiple times. The owner was remarkably speedy and responsive when the water heater failed during our stay--a repairman arrived within an hour of my phone call to the owner. We would definitely stay here again.
A lovely home in a great location!
We were very happy with the size of the home for our family of five. Everyone had room to roam inside, and on the large deck. The kitchen is amazing -- all new and top notch appliances and equipment made cooking enjoyable! We chose to drive the short distance to (free) Mayo Beach rather than hang out at the little inlet just down the road-- no need to buy a beach sticker. Overall, a great location, and beautiful house -- we will return :)
Nice space and property!
The layout was perfect for us. Clean with great views. No tv on the main floor was not an issue for us as there was good wifi. New kitchen was nice but not really used much. The outdoor grill has certainly seen better days and should be replaced.
Bathrooms are adequate but could use an update. I had a minor issue which the owner offered to remedy quickly. Seemly like a nice honest guys hat has done this for a long time , which is great.
We love wellfleet and this was close to the things we like to do. Close to the bird sanctuary so we had some colorful ones visit us in the early morning.
Overall, it's a terrific house in a great location. Clearly, the owners spend a good deal of time there -- i.e., it's extremely well-equipped and well-maintained. The house is fairly spacious, tastefully decorated, quiet, and bright, with windows on all sides. The beds are comfortable, the water pressure is fine, and everything's in working order. The only reason we give it 4, not 5, stars is that it can get uncomfortably warm in the house during the day (in mid-August, at least). A lot of houses on the Cape get by without A/C, but this one doesn't get a lot of cross breeze. (The owners might consider investing in a window unit for the living/dining area -- the bedrooms are fine as is.) Still, we recommend the place highly and will consider renting it again.
A great time in late June
My wife and I and two young kids (8 and 6) had a wonderful time in this house. There was plenty of room and we could walk or ride our bikes to a little bay beach. It was an easy car ride to the ocean or bay beaches and the kettle ponds. It was out first time in Wellfleet and this was a great base from which to explore. There's a lot to do - a week wasn't enough to get everything done we wanted to. The house was clean and well furnished. The beds were comfortable! The TV is upstairs on the balcony, but as far as I was concerned, that was great. Remember to bring your lease in order to get a parking pass - we forgot ours but the town was nice enough to let us have a pass anyway.
This home is in an area of South Wellfleet called Pleasant Point, which is a long pine grove that juts out into Wellfleet Harbor. It is very near the Audubon bird sanctuary, so there are many species present in the yard. It is also adjacent to the National Seashore and the white cliffs over the Atlantic are only minutes away. We are known especially as a great location for windsurfing, sail boating and kayaking (from the landing at the end of the street), hiking and biking. Many tell us that they settle into the quiet of Pleasant Point for evenings and long mornings, watching the tide go in and out. And then, they venture out each afternoon for time at a favorite ocean beach, or further out to the many other day trips available. Wellfleet Village is five minutes by car and has scores of art galleries, the fish and fresh produce market, wine and spirits stores and an upscale grocery store. The galleries and restaurants of Provincetown are only 20 minutes away. The Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre is just up the road; the drive-in movie is two miles down the road. The Cape Cod Rail Trail begins at the end of our road, and provides miles and miles of scenic trails for biking. Whale watches, ferries to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard, or antiquing along Route 6A, there is plenty to do.
