About Kathy and Jeff Johnson
My husband and I were looking for a possible retirement place in Mexico, and we were pretty set on finding a place that was beautiful, warm, friendly and yet out of the touristy areas. La Paz provides just what we were looking for, and this house is perfect. We love the idea of having a respite from the crazy real world. We live in Colorado, and although we live in a gorgeous state, there's something about Mexico that has always called to us. The old world charm of La Paz is still evident in the beautiful colonial architecture, and it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities on the Baja. If you have yet to discover La Paz, it's about 90 miles north of Cabo, a city of 250,000, and the capital of the southern Baja with nonstop flights to the U.S. While La Paz has tourism it is not a major part of the economy so far, however that is beginning to change. There are some good sized tourist developments now underway, and the city has recently opened two world class golf courses at very reasonable prices. It is a top destination for travelers looking for great weather, beaches, fishing, diving, snorkeling, boating, windsurfing, hiking, eco-tourism, and more. Cruise Lines are beginning to discover La stops from Holland America, Carnival, Princess and smaller lines such as National Geographic and Safari Cruise Lines.

Why Kathy and Jeff Johnson chose El Centenario
La Paz is a charming colonial city dating back to the 16th century. The heart of the city is the waterfront, with hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shops fronting the city's three mile long seaside boardwalk called the Malecon, which hums with activity day and night, from both locals and visitors alike. Nearby Espiritu Santo (island) is a great day trip and a UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage Site. We thoroughly enjoy poking around in La Paz, with its restaurants, shopping, activities, and its wonderful waterfront walkway, the Malecon, which is far and away the most beautiful we have ever seen, including Puerto Vallarta. But when it came to selecting a home, we wanted more space and something a bit quieter and more private than we could find in town. A view of the Bay, a large terrace, private pool, and a beautiful private garden were also high on our list. The house is built in traditional colonial style complete with a domed cupola in the great room. The property provides lots of privacy with a 10,000 sq ft lot screened by walls and flowering hedges. The two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house, both with ensuite baths, provding the maximum separation and privacy. A rooftop terrace provides a 360 degree panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez, the city of La Paz, the mountains, and the amazing sunrises and sunsets.

This home, the owner and the property managers are absolutely wonderful! The home is beautiful, open, well equiped, tranquil and peaceful. The pool was warm and inviting. Both Jeff and Burt were friendly, responsive, kind and enjoyable. We truly did not want to leave! Thank you so much for letting us enjoy this home and the people who were there to help. We will be back.
Brenda it was a pleasure having you stay at Casa Johnson, and I agree its very hard to leave our little slice of paradise. You are welcome to come back any time......
Very tasteful and elegant....yet comfy
House is perched on a slight bluff making the water visible. Plenty of outdoor seating/eating/lounging areas around the pool. Great airflow throughout the house and good security. The mattresses, bedding and pillows were all high end and very comfortable; kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, and the stove was easy to operate. The Home was also stocked well with everything you’d need for outdoor beach activities....chairs, grass mats, cooler, etc.
the area is very quiet with neighbors not too far away. The roads are sand covered and okay for walking, but unfortunately several dogs liked to run in a pack and got pretty aggressive towards walkers...so be careful! You need a car to go anywhere for groceries, restos, etc.
Perfect house for laidback relaxing in the sun, in & out of the pool, then going out for dinner. Thank you Jeff!
quiet and relaxing
This property is exactly as it looks in the pictures and as described. We enjoyed the quietness after days running around doing touristy things. The caretakers Bert and his wife helped my friend get to a dentist appointment after we had an issue with our rental car. I hope we can return next year.
Nata- Thank you for such a positive response. We are so happy that you enjoyed the atmosphere and quiet of the house. That tells us that we have achieved our goal in helping make your vacation a success. We hope to see you next year. Jeff and Kathy
We had a fabulous stay here! The owners and property managers are friendly and efficient.
The property manager met us at the door with keys, a fruit basket and wine and beer. We were running late but he was friendly, accomodating and full of local information. The bed was long enough to accommodate my tall husband. He loved the 7 feet tall showers and I loved the soaker tub! We spent a lot of time in the pool. It is great for laps, as well as just bobbing! Around the pool is a hammock, sunbathing lounge chairs, table and chairs for cocktails, benches for company, and a table and chairs for candlelight dinners. The kitchen is easy to use. Everything we needed was provided and handy to use. We prepared many meals while visiting with people in the great room. The washer and dryer came in handy. The backyard is home for many different kinds of birds which we were able to identify through the brochure in the bookcase. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the roof with beautiful views of the sunrise, the ocean and La Paz. This property was quiet which allowed us to relax and really enjoy our vacation! Nearby Balandra Beach is a must do!
Thanks Greg and Sue! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. You're right- we love the birds, the view and the pool as well. Next time you're in the area, we would love to host you again. Thanks for taking such great care of the place and being so communicative. Jeff and Kathy
This home is a Gem
We really enjoyed our stay in La Paz. The city was a very pleasant surprise. Lots of restaurants, shops, and services, with an amazing Malecon, waterfront walkway along the front of the city that goes for miles. There were also a number of nice beaches with lots of watersports available, good snorkeling, and consistently nice weather. The house itself worked really well for us. A nice neighborhood at the top of a gradual hill overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Very clean, plenty of room, nicely decorated, and very private with a great terrace where we spent most of our time, with a nice pool, comfortable furniture, and lots of shade. We also enjoyed the hammock and barbeque. From the roof top lanai we had a great view of the Sea of Cortez and downtown La Paz. We are so happy we found your place... we'll be back !
Rob, thank you for your kind review. We are glad you were able to enjoy both the amenities of the house and the surrounding areas.
We also appreciate the condition that you left the home- we take pride in keeping it nice for our guests and you clearly took that same pride during your stay.
We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Jeff and Kathy
