Modern Cottage with Cathedral Ceilings

Forget everything you know about cottages. This one’s a treat. Start your day with a dash straight from the grass to the sandy beach, and end it with a view of the starry sky.

The trees in the area make this a beautiful vacation destination, and it’s absolutely stunning in the fall. Choose between the row boat or the paddleboat to float through the lake, and put together a s’mores party at the bonfire pit.

Inside the House

Take in the stunning lake with your coffee in the morning on the back deck. High ceilings and large windows add more character to the great room, with plenty of natural light during the day. The great room features:

•Cathedral ceilings

•Electric fireplace

•Dining area

•Sleeper sofa

The spacious 3 BR, 1.5 BA cottage includes a fully-equipped kitchen and new appliances. The master bedroom is on the upper floor, furnished with a queen bed. The ½ bath and the full bathroom are both upstairs.

Downstairs, the kids can play around in the fort-like bunkroom, and challenge each other to a quick game of foosball. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other has a bunk bed. Also includes:

•Living room

•Sleeper sofa

Wander right out the lower level and down to the crystal clear lake. The water level starts out shallow, so it’s the perfect depth for little ones to splash around in. Settle in on the patio and put your feet up while you wait for your burgers to finish cooking on the grill.

Our Location

The cottage is just a few miles from major highways, but is still close enough to everything you need. (And you’ll still have reliable Wi-Fi.) While you’re in town, be sure to check out:

•Local Lighthouses

•Scenic Drives

•Lake Michigan

•Sand Dunes

Take a long walk along the beach at Lake Michigan, visit a few of the area festivals and bring your clubs to hit a few at the golf course. A short drive will take you wherever you want to go:

•Stonegate Golf Course (3 miles)

•Michigan’s Adventure Amusement and Water Park (8 miles)

•Silver Lake Sand Dunes (30 miles)

•Grand Haven (22 miles)

•Blue Lake Fine Arts Center (5 miles)

Take advantage of the cottage’s waterfront location, all while you dip your toes in the water and catch your own dinner. You can even rent our pontoon boat during your stay. It’s shared with our nearby house with enough space for 10 guests, if you need more space. Twin Lake has the best western Michigan has to offer. Come see us!

** Please note that outdoor equipment and furnishings are stored away from November until May **

About Sandy Shores of Twin Lake, LLC

Welcome! We’re Kathy and Chuck Kircus, owners of Sandy Shores of Twin Lake. Until the economic downturn, we were both involved in the automotive industry. We’re hard workers, and we love Michigan, so we immediately started looking for a new opportunity. Usually some unexpected event is what makes you realize what’s most important to you. For us, it was spending time with our family, relaxing on our pontoon boat, taking in a crisp view of the night sky.

We knew that in Michigan, we could always find a new start. So, we used the money from our retirement and created Sandy Shores of Twin Lake, LLC. We purchased the cottage in 2005, and the house in 2007.

We understand the importance of family, a calm, relaxing vacation, and how a cozy atmosphere helps bring people together. Our properties aren’t just rentals. This place is home! My family takes an annual 10-day vacation together here ourselves. We adopted four special needs children and we experience our house and cottage with them, our parents, and our close friends.

Each year, we see these children grow as they make little sandcastles and chase fireflies in the yard. Our story started with some hardship and continues with great joy. A house and a cottage later, we’re still planning our vacations and deciding who brings the marshmallows and the graham crackers for s’mores around the bonfire.

In 2015 we celebrated our 10th anniversary as Sandy Shores of Twin Lake. It’s such a gift to us to see our guests making memories with their family and friends here, just like we have. We’d be happy for you to see why our family cherishes Western Michigan so much!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cottage location is great for young grandchildren. Felt very safe tor them while they were in the lake. Cleanliness Five Stars. Very nice neighbors, loved the pedal boat and the row boat. Really close to Michigan Adventure!

Second time here!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second summer we have spent a week here. Every thing I wrote in last year's review still stands. The house is impeccably maintained and well-stocked. The beach is perfect for kids - the two ten year old spent as much time as they could in the water . Perfect for them as the shallow area extends beyond the end of the pier. I did contact Kathy about a minor issue and she responded right away. Such a peaceful and relaxing place - just hope we can do it again next year!

Beautiful, quiet lake and comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

The owner was easy (and fast) to contact via email for any questions. We had a great time at Sandy Shores in July 2017. The weather was so good, and the bugs non-existent, that we stayed at the lake the whole week. We barely left! We loved kayaking, floating, and just sitting in the yard or on the deck. A few times it got hot in the afternoon so we enjoyed the central A/C while watching a movie or reading. The kitchen was well-equipped and we made all of our own meals. The lake is quiet both day and night (local ordinances for quiet hours at night). We saw the bald eagle, loons, ducks, and fish. The lake is very clean with a sandy bottom at this location. Get up early to enjoy your coffee while enjoying the mirror-still late and the calls of the loons! Wifi is fast for those who want to stream a show or check email.

Lovely cottage on the lake

  • 5 of 5

This property was a great value for the price. The cottage is immaculate. It is obviously well maintained and it appeared it had some updates from my original view of the property. The owner has been wonderful to work with. We rented the pontoon that is with the property. Asked to have it for 3 days and then extended to 5. The beach and outdoor amenities were also exactly as portrayed on Homeaway.

The weather cooperated very nicely for us, with only short times of rain and clouds. This was an extremely relaxing way to spend vacation. I highly recommend this property.

The nearby county park was great for our 4 year old grandson.

Enjoyed breakfast at the Anchor Inn on 2 occasions during our stay. Food and service excellent.

Great for kids! (and the rest of the family, too!)

  • 5 of 5

In selecting a vacation home, our primary goal was to find one with a nice, sandy beach for the kids (two 9 year olds). The water was very clear, a nice sandy bottom and shallow way beyond the end of the pier. Although we kept an eye on them, we really didn't have to worry about them when they were in the water. They loved the little kayaks and the pedal boat and my daughter and the boys pedaled over to the island twice, where they were pleased to find a nice sandy beach on the other side. The home itself was immaculate and very well stocked - more dishes and glasses than we would possible use. The array of small kitchen appliances was great, and we got a bit of use out of the electric skillet. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets and after-dark bonfires. We didn't do much exploring in western Michigan because we were happy to stay put where we were. I didn't have any reason to contact Kathy, but received a text welcome message from her and was confident that if we did have a problem, she would have resolved it for us right away. The welcome packet sent out in advance was most helpful and contained more information than I have ever received for a vacation rental. All in all, a perfect vacation experience and I hope we can return at some point in the future.

Had a great time exploring western Michigan!

  • 5 of 5

The property was really nice. The lake was clear. Went with a few friends. We had a lot of fun on the boats and having BBQs and bonfires by the water. We visited a lot of wineries and breweries in the area. We watched the fountain light show in Grand Haven and went to Mac Wood's Dunes. It was a nice week away. Would definitely recommend it.
