Just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, on the “Oltrarno” side of the historic center of Florence, this lovely and elegant home provides all of the comforts of the modern world combined with the rich history of the 15th Century.
This home used to be the 'Forni Reali' or royal bakery serving the Medici and later the Italian royal family when they occupied the Palazzo Pitti. It comprises 130 square meters (approx. 1,399 sq. ft), and has 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a large living room and fully-equipped modern kitchen, small study and additional half bath. The apartment sleeps 6-8 people, and wraps around a lovely courtyard garden adorned with flowers, fountain and goldfish. Decorated both for comfort and charm, the home contains an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture.
The apartment has its own separate entrance on the ground floor, only one step up from the street, and is equipped with all necessary amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, satellite t.v. and DVD/VCR player, Internet connection, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and washing machine. One of the owners is an artist who splits his time between Florence and New York City, and many of his original artworks are exhibited in the home, including large oil paintings in the living room, and frescoes in the bedroom.
The apartment is located on a pedestrian-only street just off a charming piazza. There you will find a famous restaurant and delightful cafe. Just 3-4 minutes away you will find the Ponte Vecchio, and you can walk to the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria in 5-10 minutes. A parking garage is located 1 minute away, and local bus stops servicing all parts of the city are also just minutes away.
We had a wonderful time and the apartment was beyond our expectations. Our vacation included Rome, Florence, Venice and Paris. Florencewas by far our favorite location. The city, the local café and deli and theapartment were all amazing. You have a great property manager inFrancesca, she was a great help! We have already recommended theapartment to our friends.Guest during March 2008
I'd like to preface this by saying that my group of six and I had never been to Florence, or Italy itself before. We had high expectations from renting via VBRO many times before and this place exceeded them.
We'd picked Florence as a "home base" for the week for easy access to other cities, and as anyone who's ever planned a stay, picking a place blindly is a daunting task.
First off, communication is on point. From reserving, to check in, to check out and everything in between.
Veronica warmly greeted us and showed us around the apartment, gave us a map for the lay of the land. Take her recommendations for food, she's a local and knows what she's talking about. The ower Alkan has amazing paintings thru out the apartment he's painted himself and you can tell he takes great pride and care of the apartment.
Each bedroom has its own bathroom and a half bath off the kitchen. The apartment has all the necessities you need (iron, hair dryer, tour books, full kitchen etc.) the main room is split into a lovely living area and a dining area with a study off the side that leads into the master bedroom. The private courtyard, and by private I mean it's yours, leads to the two other bedrooms, one being accessible thru the master bedroom (but has a door in between) the courtyard has a table, fountain and the washing machine (tucked in the corner) which is a great area to relax, host, and decompress.
The apartment is about a 5 minute walk to Ponte Vecchio, with a cafe, restaurant and the BEST gelato right outside. It's about a 15 minute walk to the train station with easy access to Rome, Pisa, Venice and other Italian cities. The apartment is out of the touristy area so you can feel and act like a local.
There is an alley cat who became our friend, you can find him sleeping on one of the many vespas parked on the street.
Parking is available around the corner in a garage, you need to reserve a spot in advance (from the garage not the owner), but honestly ditch the car and take the train.
The list of wonderful delights this apartment has is endless. We loved our stay and can't wait to be back. Many thanks to Alkan and Veronica to making this home away feel like home.
The reviews from previous guests were so glowing, we weren't sure they could be real, but after spending a week
here with two other adult relatives, we all agree they are. It was wonderful to have the space, just as described, to have a well equipped kitchen, and washing machine, and heat (!) for some prematurely cool evenings when it was raining heavily in midOctober. The heated towel racks in every bethroom were especially appreciated for drying wet socks.
We walked everywhere, never took a bus except to go to Fiesole. It helped mitigate the impact of those delicious meals. In addition to 4 Leoni and Casalinga, consider Brac, an unusually creative vegetarian restaurant on the other side of the Arno, if you or a member of your group does not eat meat. Reservations for all are needed, lunch or dinner.
Communication before and during rental was easy. In fact, we did not even know that Alkan Nallbani was in the U.S when he was emailing us; we thought he lived in Italy. Veronica checked us in, was very helpful in giving us information and showing us around the house, and came over again when we had a problem getting the heat started. When I had a concern about the microwave, she simply replaced it with a new one!
The cafe across the alley was a cafe macchiato lifeline for my sister early in the morning, before the late risers in the family got up. During good weather, you can hear the conversations of the people sitting outside at the cafe's tables into the apartment's living room quite clearly. But it is quiet in the bedrooms at night.
We had a wonderful time in Florence, loved staying in such a historic setting in such a historic city. Sometimes I even liked to imagine that there were still lingering bread smells in the apartment.
We had a vacation beyond all expectations. Spent more than 5 weeks here and enjoyed every minute of it. Had friends come & visit and then family came - 2 adults and 4 teens! The roomy apartment was great and the neighborhood became ours. Veronica was so helpful with suggestions whenever we needed her. The suggestions for winery tours could not have been better. Already wanting to go back to Florence and when we do, we would want to stay here.
This spacious apartment was ideal for 5 adults. Centrally located - we walked to every destination - and surrounded by great coffee and gelato shops, and great restaurants (especially 4 Leoni). Best of all was the assistance received from Veronica who helped track down luggage that didn't arrive with us in Florence. I would go back in a heartbeat!
We were 2 adult couples with two teens. We rented this apartment on homeaway.com and the rental process was smooth and seamless!!! The location was the perfect Trifecta with one of the best Gelato places in Florence next door to the apartment, trattoria 4 Leoni (awesome restaurant) on the corner, and the cafe/ wine bar across from the apartment. The apartment was easily walkable to the main attractions in Florence, but also far enough to not be in a touristy area, which we absolutely loved. We visited the local farmers market, were around he corner from the pittaipalace and the ponte vecchio, near the super market and other cute local artisan shops. The apartment was exactly as pictured on the website (three bedrooms with four bathrooms, lovely living room, beautiful courtyard, and ample space).
Mr. Nallbani, was great to deal with and extremely responsive. When we arrived we met Veronica. She was extremely helpful and accommodating. She recommended great places to see, visit, and eat and explained the places nearby in detail. She made the check-in/ check-out process extremely easy. I highly recommend this apartment. When I go back to Florence, this will definitely be my top choice.
We were 3 couples celebrating 'big' birthdays. The location was outstanding... 2-20 minutes from ALL of the major attractions. The main ensuite was superb. The 2 other ensuites have shower challenges (curtains are useless and floor was constantly soaked), but otherwise they are great. 3 of the best local restaurants are a 10 min walk. The courtyard is lovely (needs updated furniture). Really a fabulous location and it looks exactly as photographed.
Cooking lessons or private catering can be arranged.
