The house was a farming hamlet whose origins pre-date the 16th century. Deserted after the Second World War, it was bought and beautifully restored as a single house by the present owners in 1970. Built of sandstone, the house has all modern comforts while retaining original features including wooden beams and original bread oven. From its hillside position it commands wonderful views over the valley, with two terraces providing sun or shade at different times of day. The large sitting room has an open fire place and provides direct access to the dining room and one of the terraces. The swimming pool is below the South-west terrace. There is a table tennis table in the large games room. Situated in its own grounds deep in the countryside and with direct access to woodland and valley walks, it is a haven of peace, safe for children, and yet within very easy reach of major tourist sites, historic places, medieval market towns such as Sarlat and Les Eyzies, and fine restaurants.
The Périgord Noir region is famous for its chateaux, prehistoric cave paintings, bastide towns, thickly wooded hillsides and valleys, beautiful climate and superb food. Sarlat, one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe, holds a music festival in July and August and there are spectacular firework displays along the rivers.
Horse riding centre is only 5 minutes drive away from the house.
Weekly markets are held in the local towns all year round on different days for example Saturday in Sarlet, Sunday in St Cyprien. In the late spring, summer and early autumn months you can hire canoes and kayaks on the Dordogne and Vézère rivers, and a ten-minute drive from the house there is a leisure park with swimming pools, water sports, fishing, and shady picnic areas. There are also safe swimming places in the Dordogne river, also only ten minutes away.
Le Bugue which is 10 minutes by car from the house has a famous old market on Tuesdays. Le Bugue has 3 supermarkets, an excellent wine merchant and a DIY store. It also has a good medical centre. Doctors readily do home visits at very reasonable rates.
In the spring the peach and nectarine trees blossom on the slopes below the house and wild boar may occasionlly be heard in the woods. In the autumn the misty early mornings give way to warm sunshine that ripens the walnuts, grapes, and an astonishing variety of wild mushrooms/fungi.

Ideal base for exploration
This is a great place for a family holiday. Returning to the Dordogne after many years absence, we settled in very quickly in this lovely house. The hot weather meant the pool was very welcome. In the morning we saw deer grazing in the field behind the house. A short drive to St. Cyprien to stock up on the essentials as needed. Sunday morning is market day, we bought rotisserie chicken, potatoes, salad, Lucco for bread and cakes, and beer from the local "Croix du Rat" brewery. Close to the famous castles of Beynac and Castelnaud, and within easy reach of the Dordogne river for a canoeing adventure. You can go for walks in the woods around the house or simply sit on the terrace and enjoy the view. One evening two hot air balloons drifted across the sky as we sat watching the sun go down. Magical.
Spacious and peaceful manor house
This is a great manor house and really spacious. It is surrounded by its own land so is very rural and private and not overlooked. There is no passing traffic and it's peaceful with relaxing countryside views. It is managed remotely so you have the whole place to yourself. The house is old with plenty of character. The pool is a decent size and the terrace is perfect for outdoor dining. If three couples stay here they can each have their own en-suite. There is no bar or bakery in walking distance so we drove into Saint-Cyprien and Le Bugue for supplies. Both towns are attractive with places to eat and supermarkets.
Beautiful, tranquil, Perigord treasure
We were a party of 5 adults spending 2 weeks in this beautifully restored and wonderfully located house. The heated pool was a good size and very welcome as the weather was more than kind to us. The cows in the field next door strolled up to say hello, and the whole ambience and functionality of the restored house was excellent. Highlights were the Jardins de Marqueyssac, Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac, the river trip from La Roque Gageac, and the spa at the Hotel Les Glycines in the lovely village of Les Eyzies. Also, we recommend the 15 minute train journey from St Cyprien to Sarlat, avoiding fighting for parking space in busy Sarlat. Wifi worked well, and the kitchen was well equipped. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return. We agreed it would make a great location for a winter, Christmas or New Year gathering - maybe something for the owners to consider. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.
paradise on earth
We spent two weeks and had great holidays - felt like paradise on earth. The house offers everything you need for a perfect holiday for youngest and older people. We loved to swim in the heated and clean pool, even it was early in spring. The evenings we spent in front the lovely chimney. Every sights of the Périgord are easy and near to reach.
Wonderful house and location. Pool was marvelous!
Our family of six had a wonderful stay at this house. It is close to so many attractions including Grotte de Rouffignac, Chateau de Commarque (which was great for the kids to climb around), towns like Sarlat and Baynac, as well as canoeing on the Dordogne (fantastic!). Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone. At the end of a day of sightseeing, we had dinner by the pool and just relaxed. We wished we could have stayed longer.
Nitya was easy to work with and she was available to help us with the pool alarm.
We would recommend this house for your stay in the Dordogne!
Return visit and just as memorable as the first!
I cannot recommend this property highly enough. This was our second visit, and it has the most idyllic setting. Coupled with the most amazing glorious sunshine, we had a fantastic time. Kayaking, visits to local markets (such as Sarlat), and relaxing by the pool.......the key ingredients to any holiday!
The house is in the heart of the Périgord Noir, 6 km north of St Cyprien, 15 km south-east of Sarlat. It is about half an hour drive to drive to Périgueux (the capital of the region) and 50 km to Brive with airport and railway station with Motorail service to Calais. There are currently Ryan air flights and Flybe to Bergerac (about 40 minutes drive from the house). It is about 2 and a half hours drive from Bordeaux with a major international airport Other Activities: canoeing
