All the comforts of home in a Medieval building!
We’ve rented European houses and apartments for over 25 years and this is an amazing find. It’s sparkling clean, has good lighting, fast, consistent WiFi and is beautifully decorated. Especially considering that it’s located in a medieval building hundreds of years old! You get the Old World feel of the building as you ascend the stairway and are transported to the present upon entering the apartment. It’s exactly what we hoped for.
The bed was very comfortable, there was an electric outlet in the bathroom along with a heated towel rack and instant hot water in the kitchen and bath. The entire apartment and furnishings smelled fresh and clean.
The kitchen is fully equipped and even has sharp knives...a feature sorely lacking in many other places we’ve rented. It’s nice to be able to cut a tomato rather than smash it. The cabinets showcase the complement of dishes, glassware & cookware and have soft-closing drawers. For those not familiar with European appliances, there’re instruction manuals for them in the dish cabinet.
The location is superb, just steps from the Halles des Lices ... and overlooking the fantastic open markets on Saturday and Wednesday. Despite being in the midst of everything, the apartment is quiet. The bedroom faces an inner courtyard with no street noise. With the Saturday market in mind, you should plan on arriving in the old town after the market ceases, say 2:30 pm or later. We departed on Saturday also, so we put as much as possible in the car Friday afternoon and had only hand carry items to take to the car Saturday. Cars aren’t allowed in the area during the market so a 5 minute walk to parking was in order.
There’s a convenient parking lot 100 feet or so from the front door that’s free for the first 45 minuets when the market isn’t taking place. My weak command of the French language didn’t allow me to fully understand the parking rate thereafter but I elected for long term parking near the port, a 5+ minute walk. Various options are available from free to €15 per 24hrs. There’s free off-street parking on Rue Jean Marie Allanic, about a 12 minute walk along the port. You can have a pleasant walk to the car and pick up your party at the apartment while utilizing the 45 minute freebie. Très facile!
I’d like to commend Mélisande who greeted us and explained the features of the apartment and town. She was very informative and knowledgeable about the area and checked on us during our stay.
Magnificent, perfect position
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful city. The flat is in an ideal position. It is walking distance to most everything. You can watch and listen to the world going by below. Market below on Wednesday & Saturday. Bakery next door and supermarket not far away. The flat has most everything needed. We took a cruise around the Gulfe and a couple of bus trips to near by towns.
The location of this apartment is so convenient, the windows open out on to a public square, I took to opening the windows wide and watching the world go by. The apartment is fabulous, decorated to a high standard of what I would describe as French chic, the bedroom is at the back, so is peaceful and quiet. Coffee, fresh bread, the market are all on your door step and the much larger street market appears on Saturday and Wednesday, such fun to explore.
The old town and the port offer lots of fabulous places to sit and have lunch or an evening meal, lots of shops that are very tempting and the visa of medieval buildings takes you breath away, so charming.
We ventured out to the coast and found deserted beaches and quaint ports and marinas where we watched the boats go back and forth.
We are already planning our next trip. Thank you Jean Marc, we had a fabulous holiday.
Lovely apartment right in the heart of the town. Walking distance to everywhere. Apartment has a new kitchen stocked with more than you'll need. The sitting room is huge and comfortable and the queen bed in bedroom is perfect after a long day of sightseeing! I would definitely recommend this property.
