The Agave Hotel has a total of nine spacious rooms. Guests can reserve single rooms, a block of rooms, our Penthouse Suite or the entire property. The separate beach front Presidential Casita is perfect for those that want a higher level of privacy. Many of our guests request special services such as massage/spa service - private retreats can be created for your comfort and pleasure.
Baja 1000 off-road racers Rick Johnson & Al Hogan along with Brenda (Rick's wife and trusty Baja pit chaser) enjoy racing down the Baja pennisula and discovering all the rich history Mexico has to offer. They wanted a place to relax on the beach and sip margaritas along with some world class fishing, a place they could call there own and share with friends new and old.
Rick Johnson purchased this hotel in 2006
The mystic old world feel of Baja, the beautiful sandy beaches great for snorkeling and world class fishing. The hospitality of the Mexican people. The sea life and sound of the ocean rolling against the sand at night, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets are a few reason we bought our vacation rental
You will enjoy relaxing by the poolside, swimming on our safe beach.Walking to town to enjoy a traditional Mexican dinner or have your fresh caught fish cooked by one of the many great resturants.
The location was perfect, with swimmable beach right outside (swim a short distance past the rocks) and walking distance to town. We used the two beach cruisers to bike into town as well. Whales were frisky not too far offshore and gave us some shows during our stay. The hotel was stocked with kayaks, paddle boards and some snorkeling equipment as well, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals at home. The local restaurants are great, and there are plenty nearby. The hotel is clean and everything was in working order, but I held back a star because of a couple of very fixable things. The hotel has a booklet that gives the procedures for getting clean linens and includes the internet password, but the only copy was in the penthouse so many of us didn't see it for days. It should be in every room. Also, although once we found out how to get clean towels, it didn't always work. In the end myself and my partner had 2 bath towels, one hand towel and no washcloths. The housecleaner didn't always return the number of items picked up. There was a half bottle of body wash in the shower, but once that was gone it was never replaced and we washed with shampoo. Hotels usually provide soap. We wiped up the dirty kitchen floor a few times, but housekeeping never did. Lastly, the outside of the toilet never seemed to get cleaned. The tank top and the area behind the seat were clearly never wiped down. I did it myself with a damp towel after I found out how to get clean towels, but that's a pretty basic cleaning function for housekeeping. My complaints are really minor, just a word to housekeeping would help. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend the Agave Hotel for a great vacation spot.
The Agave Hotel is beautiful. You are only steps to the Sea of Cortez. The pictures on the site are beautiful but don't really justify the hotel once you are there. Los Barrillas is only 10 minutes away by car or you can walk the beach and arrive there is approx 20 min. The owners will accomadate you any way they can, if they are not doing it themselves they will help you find what you require. We rented the hotel for our daughters wedding where we held the wedding on the beach it was so private and beautiful and the owner happened to be there to make sure our day was perfect, we then took everyone out for supper at Tio Pablos and finished entertaining our guests at the hotel. It was fantastic because we were able to rent the entire hotel so all our family and guests stayed together and it was very private. We finished the holiday doing some activties by snorkling right in front of the hotel, we did some quadding, fishing and of course some shopping. Cabos is about a 45 min drive and we spent a day sightseeing there as well. There is also a small town called Toro Santas (an artist style town) is also fun to visit as well. So it is nice to have a vehicle to drive to see the treasures the Baja has to offer. We would definitly recommend it to our freinds and family, if you are a small group or a big group like ours the owners will sure you are well looked after and enjoying your stay. We loved it and gathering some more freinds so we can return.
This is always one of my favorite stops on the south end of Baja. I can get a true Baja experience with the characture of a small town and great hotel property. I love that several rooms are on the pool level and I can walk out of my room and be in the water in 10 steps. The views are some of the best in Mexico. All the rooms are updated with the comforts of home although not much time is spent in the room. My favorite part of the hotel is the short 20 steps to the beach! This place should not be missed on any trip to Baja!
We've had a wonderful experience at the Agave for the past three years. You'll have as much privacy as you want - and there is always someone to help out if you need anything. You're just 16 steps from the beach which provides great snorkeling and fishing. The property is close enought to town to walk. There are miles of wonderful beach walking with a friendly people and no crowds. The property was wonderfully maintained, clean and had all of the ammenities promoted and needed. Chapitos is a full service grocery store near by and we enjoyed happy hour at Smokies and Tio Pablo's. I would recommend this destination 100%!
We absolutely loved our family vacation at the Agave Hotel last year (2011) that we made the trip again this year, but with a bigger party of family and friends. We rented the whole hotel both times.
I dont know that you can find a more relaxing place with the clapping rays in the ocean and incredible moon rises in the evening, for twice the price.
The Hotel has all the equipment necessary to keep you busy all day long on the beach or in the pool.
Snorkelling and spear fishing just infront of the hotel is wonderful. Hire a cook to come in daily, its worth it. I highly recommend this destination. Rick, the owner is great very helpful with recommendations for the area.
We booked this hotel through the advice of friends that have stayed here in the past, and we couldn't be happier with our choice! Close enough to the town of Los Barriles that the very well stocked grocery store was less than 2 minutes away by car. Fishing was amazing, and seemed to be a very short ride to get to the hot spots where we all hooked up on some dorado. We had heard reports of some boats pulling in some great size marlin as well! The town has much to offer to various age ranges, golfing, shopping, jeep/ rhino/ quad rentals etc. The hotel itself was clean and private. We relaxed by the infinity pool for much of our time and enjoyed the views over the hotel's beach. The ocean water was still warm enough to swim! (November)
We also enjoyed the views from the casita room where we stayed. It is its own little house separated from the actual hotel building with all of our normal amenities. It has a full size fridge, oven, kitchen area and a nice outside dining area that perches you about 6' above the sand under a wonderfully built palapa that overlooks the sea. We also utilized the hotels kayaks to do a little bit of marine life viewing! What an experience for the kids!
I would recommend this establishment to all of my friends and family any day of the week! We plan on going back as soon as possible
